Hi all. I'd like to join the manga club. :3
Since I've only recently been reading manga I think I can now consider joining. I've so far read Sailor Moon Volumes 1-6 as well as a couple of omnibuses of other manga.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the manga so far. It's kinda hard to pick a favorite since I like them both but I suppose the Dark Kingdom arc is a better story for me.
It'll be a while before I'll read 7; I'm currently reading my other manga right now, a couple of omnibuses for Yu-Gi-Oh! and Battle Angel Alita. Generally once I finish my reading I go to the city to pick up more.

Feel free to post your thoughts here once you get a chance to read it, unless you wanna go ahead and read it on Miss Dream's site. XD

Welp, I'm sadly still in the day-of-reading club and woefully behind on that excellent and somewhat challenging question from last volume... BUT! I feel like it would be too tacky waiting for myself to catch up on that before posting my answer to this month's question XD.

Hi everyone!  Magic and I apologize for the lack of updates this month. Both our schedules got a little crazy and with the down turn of activity in the club as well (and holidays and upcoming forum celebrations), we decided that the SM Manga club will go on a small hiatus until January 2018. With the new year, we'll hold resign ups and encourage everyone to jump back in to finish up the Inifnity Arc with us.

For now, feel free to post any thoughts on Vol 7 if you couldn't make the livechat at the beginning of Nov!  Also chatting about manga stuff in the Discord channel is encouraged and very welcome!

And just because the club is on hiatus doesn't mean we won't take new members either! And current members, nows the time to get caught up with the manga!  

We look forward to resuming with Vol 8 in Jan!

That being said, here's my thoughts on Sailor Moon Vol. 7

We learn a little more about Hotaru and her history. Already we see signs that there is something not quite right in her mind. And we get to see the physical trauma she suffered from years ago, i.e. her cyborg body. Quite the visual, seeing her exposed muscles tied in with machinery.

We are also introduced to a few new things and people in this volume.

We get to see the return of the hero of the previous arc: Sailor Pluto. Only now she has a civilian form as Setsuna. I like that now she has a civilian identity, because it means she's no longer sentenced to a life of loneliness guarding the Time Gate. The only thing that disappoints me is how minimal her time is with Chibiusa, considering their past (future?) from the previous arc.

We are introduced to the real Holy Grail. Unlike in the anime, the grail was created from the combined power of Sailor Moon Chibi Moon and Tuxedo Mask (made by the three family members, like the sculpture) and powered by the inner senshi's power and the power of the three talismans, allowing Sailor Moon to become Super Sailor Moon.

And we learn the history of the last Sailor Senshi to yet be introduced: Sailor Saturn. I really do like the history behind her and that the three talismans are linked to her awakening. And these facts make it more understandable why the outers and inners can't work together. The outer Senshi are willing to do whatever it takes to protect the world, and they know the inner Senshi aren't willing to do.

And when Chibiusa goes to help her friend, we see that the being inside Hotaru awaken and steal her Silver Crystal. Only, we soon learn that while this being has awakened, the talismans did not react, meaning it was not Sailor Saturn, but an agent of the Death Busters: Mistress 9. I'll admit that while I did see the anime first, the first time I read this, I forgot about Mistress 9 altogether, so her emergence generally surprised me, especially when we just finished learning of the threat of Sailor Saturn. Don't know why she needed such long hair, but weirder concepts have been used, so no biggie.

And then we get to see the Senshi charge the enemy stronghold. But Kaolinite was already working her black magic to bring back the Witches 5 and trap the Senshi. The manga really puts more emphasis on the magic aspect of the Death Busters than the anime did (Kaolinite killed a bat and used its blood as a component for her spell). We see Kaolinite's death and the death of Professor Tomoe, who unlike in the anime, was literally a mad scientist.

It's cool to see that Hotaru is still fighting Mistress 9 from within so shortly after the Daimon took control of her body. Now that I think about it, Pharaoh 90 is kinda a Daimon too, just on a much larger scale. Instead of a person, Pharaoh 90 desires to possess the planet, and if it turns out like other Daimon victims, the Earth would suffer the same corruption.

It was a good volume and I hope to see you guys for the conclusion in Vol. 8

Yes and we HIGHLY encourage members to post in the club thread, even more so than Discord, tbh. I like discord as a quick chatting tool,but its nice to have everything here in thethread. Plus posting in the thread, keeps it visible to members who check the active topics of the day and could (theoretically) encourage more people to join in the future. ^_^

Also I don't think you could ever clog up the forum Chris, so don't worry about it. Activity is gooood! XD

Righto then.

In general I like the story so far, I've already mentioned that I love the mythology behind the story and how I'm actually wanting to search for more on the subject. In terms of the Usagi/Mamoru dynamic I think Naoko did a very good job in creating the relationship and implanting the past with the present. The friendships with the other senshi is also well done on her part. However I'm not a fan of how she handles time travel and similar phenomena. I'd normally go into more detail but I don't remember the details so well right now. Perfect excuse to reread them. xD But I did enjoy Volume 1 the most so far. I guess I like the romance between Usagi and Mamoru.

I wanted to post a quick club update!

Our hiatus is just about over!! Yaaay! We'll be resuming club activities come Jan 1st resuming our read through of the Sailor Moon manga with volume 8. However please note that when we resume activities, we will be asking for ALL members to resign up for the club! New year, fresh roster!
