| Welp, I renewed my library copy of volume 12 so I'm still hoping to get some time this weekend to write a bit about it since I missed some of the live chat and really need to reply to some comments here~. In the meantime i.e. while I'm lying in bed lol... - Quote :

What are some things from the Sailor V manga you wish had shown up in the other versions of SM? Oh goodness where to start... Off the top of my head, and since I already made a thread about it, I would have loved to have seen some sort of reference to Danburite by the other Shitennou or Beryl or at least SOME way of tying the baddies together. I know Codename: Sailor V ended after the main manga series but still... I think Naoko had at least a vague idea of who Danburite was in terms of his position in the Dark Kingdom back when the DK arc was being published. And in any case, it was always the Dark Agency up front so at least some sort of nod to the other plot would've been really nice ;_;. AND HOW ABOUT FINALLY REVEALING WHO BOSS-SAN WAS?!?!? Coulda snuck it into the R arc or something... that would have been AWESOME. Having Minako's friend kind of just disappear to be replaced with Ami was kind of sad but I take it as a totally canon reflection of Minako's flakiness XD. I was so happy when Minako got to use her crescent compact in Infinity!!! After witnessing that and all the great use of other manga-only attacks in PGSM, I was a bit surprised that PGSM didn't use very much at all of V's abilities beyond the first episode and Act 0.... (Though I also haven't seen it in a while so correct me please if you know better!) I guess we're meant to assume that her V powers are weaker than the ones she uses as Venus. I'll leave it at that for now ^^;;. SO EXCITED TO ZIP THROUGH THIS SET!!!! |

AND HOW ABOUT FINALLY REVEALING WHO BOSS-SAN WAS?!?!? Coulda snuck it into the R arc or something... that would have been AWESOME. RIGHT!? I mean I guess it was obv they were connecting to the Moon's main computer system since their base ends up being the same base in SM and it is revealed in that the Moon has a computer system buuuuut still!! Would've been nice for Venus to be like "BOSS!?!?" when she hears/sees Serenity's hologram thingy when they get to the Moon. Personally, I'd just love an entire OVA dedicated to the Sailor V. There's been some scenes in the original anime that were nods towards the Sailor V manga along with a reference in the very first Myu but those are slim pickins. I did notice that in the pictures from the Nogizaka Myu that Venus has her henshin pen based on the manga which was nice to see! |

| I agree that I wish we could have found out who the Boss was. I too always thought it was Queen Serenity's ghost/hologram/kind of a Jor-El ripoff thing. Also it's been a while since I read the manga all the way through and I'm not sure if this shows up in any other versions of the franchise but it would have been nice if we could have had the whole "reason why Minako can never find love" thing brought up. (Not gonna say exactly what it is cause spoilers.) It was kind of interesting to me but I don't think it ever got resolved/expanded upon in the main series or anything. I'm not saying we needed to hear a whole lot about it but I don't know, I feel like we were left hanging a little bit. |

I agree that they were supposed to be side characters but both were very close to Minako. To be fair ,Minako`s past was not discussed in the SM manga as far as I now (other than simply telling that she worked under the name "Sailor V") and a simple reference of their names would have been nice. |

What are some things from the Sailor V manga you wish had shown up in the other versions of SM? I would've love to have seen Sailor V characters implemented into the original Sailor Moon. So, like an episode during season one, instead of Minako's friend from London appearing and the episode plotline revolving around her love life, they could've been replaced with the cops from Sailor V manga. Or maybe one of Minako's old friends being a target-of-the-week. Or having some fun with with characters that share resemblance with SM characters. |

| I would have liked to see references to Danburite and the Shitennou too like Diagnosed said, and more about Minako’s relation with the police department! - magic713 wrote:

Yess, that would have been very interesting! Plus, I’d have loved flashbacks about Mina’s friends, Saitou (he’s so cool) and funny moments with Artemis (I’m still re-reading vol 1, I’ll probably add more things once finished) |

| Oh, I do! And I wrote my post on the computer when my internet was down and then didn't post it (I am really bad to do that...) So I think I will post it now! Okay, so I got told that I had a grading (test) for Saturday on Thursday night, so on Friday I was cramming and then on Saturday I was grading/sleeping and missed both chats. On the upside, it means that I get to have a discussion here, and the trivia questions meant I even got to test my memory! So here are my thoughts on the volume: First off, I love so many of the panels! In particular, I think the villains in this book are beautiful (and there are so many that I want to color!), so I actually like looking at those more than I do in Sailor Moon, where the bad guys don't appeal to me visually as much (probably 'cause they are not meant to be idols all the time). Petite Pandora in particular makes me grin a lot. Oh, and the panels of Sailor V just after transforming are also consistently lovely, but I think that is more in tune with the standard for Sailor Moon. Next: the police! I know it's been mentioned on here before, but the police are awesome. They are one of the two things that I would love to see in Sailor Moon, both because it makes sense for the police to be concerned about random supernatural attacks all over Tokyo and because I think it would have added another interesting dimension of the story. Also, I could totally sympathize with Wakagi's frustration that V is always catching the bad guys before he gets a chance to. Plus, I think I am with magic and Moody Mask – characters are a good way to link the two stories, even if you aren't going to link the plots as much as you might. After all, they are what is driving the story a lot of the time! Okay, time for the other thing I wish was in Sailor Moon: the compact and it's ability to reflect a creature's true form. It might be in Sailor Moon and I am forgetting it (or done away with in volume two, and again I am forgetting it), but if that is the case, they really, really don't use it often enough. I think I would be charging that sucker every night, and every time something even a little weird starts happening, I would start looking at every in it (yep, I would need to powder my nose in public every 30 seconds). This is one of those cases where it is not so much an “I wish I could see this tool more often) as it is an “I don't understand why they don't use this thing which would make their lives so much easier,” but the final product is still that I would like to see it more in Sailor Moon. Last thing, I promise: I love the nod to Usagi and Naru in here. For some reason it resonates more than the Rei one – probably because it feels more natural to throw them in a discussion about the arcade, though I haven't examined my opinions there very much. There isn't enough Usagi time that I feel like it is being forced down my throat – LOOK here is SAILOR MOON style – but it is enough to remind me that Minako is close by the Sailor Moon when she is doing all this, even if she doesn't realize it yet. It also helps a little with the disconnect, since most of the time Minako and Artemis are the only major characters to appear in both Codename Sailor V and Sailor Moon. Phew, okay. Rant over. Thanks for posting the trivia questions – it was really fun to go through them and made me feel a little less sad for missing the chats! |

| So I kept myself up late a few nights ago because I couldn't stop reading Sailor V. I ended up reading the first four chapters. Just thought I'd share a few of my first impressions. Be aware, too, that this will be the my first complete manga, so I'm not knowledgeable in the genre. In summary: It's awesome! More specifically:
- It begins so much Sailor Moon begins (bad grade, eating outside of a classroom, best friend & nerd, cat stalking, first transformation amid disbelief
"Just... hold on", etc, etc) yet it still truly grips me, as a new and unique story.
- Artemis went way up in my estimation. In the anime, he can be quite the jerk. Here, his consideration for Venus, especially after the first battle is heart-warming. His forgetfulness as regards talking in public was cute, too.
- I appreciated Venus's realistic reaction after her first battle. The confused/depressed/whatever moment in her room really helped make her a realistic and sympathetic character.
- The artwork is glorious, with great facial expressions.
- A demonstration of the previous two points:
- Spoiler:
- One thing that surprised me was the language. It's sparse, not extreme, and doesn't really bother me much; but it surprised me because I was expecting the anime "G-rating" here, too. For instance, Sailor V's reaction to her first transformation was not something she'd say in the anime. I
s this unique to Ms. Dream's translations? I had to use hers for Sailor V.
- The gamecenter chapter was a blast.
In brief, again: it's awesome! |

| Weeee!!!!! You did like it after all! That's fantastic! I always feel like the circumstances of Minako's first battle compared with Usagi's really sets you up to see her path is going to be overall more fraught with inner turmoil. And the little moments like that when she's lying on her bed in her room are so important to remember since she spends the majority of the manga in her hyper, outgoing mode. Iirc Luna has some hilarious talking slip-up panels as well XD. It was like Naoko couldn't help but make fun of her own crazy idea of talking cats haha. And yesss the game center chapter XD. Anyways, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!! Can't wait to hear your opinion on the second half of the volume~. |

This was something I picked up on as well with this go round of reading. I think it's interesting the contrast between her and Usagi's reaction to their first battle. - Quote :

I think the language in the official Kodansha translations are about on par as Miss Dream's. Miss Dream may have chosen some more extreme words in some cases (as I notice fan translations of Japanese content tend to do.) and I think some of that is really up to interpretation. I think Minako in general has a more um "vile" mouth in comparison to Usagi. Of course, what happens here and what ends up in the anime is different cause thats for TV so different rules apply (even in Japan.XD) Anyway, it's aweosme to see you enjoying it so far. Can't wait to hear more of your thoughts! |

| Just finished up volume 1, in time to start volume 2 with the group in August! After chapter 5, the enemies-as-idols theme was getting a bit repetitive, but the next two switched it up nicely!
Also, I loved the cameos by Usagi, Naru, and Rei. |

If Sailor Moon had not become a thing, firstly there would be no cameos or possibly Sailor V awakening her memories. If it had stayed popular enough, it may have went on to have a few more little story arcs and possibly a defeating the Dark Agency part. Perhaps Naoko and other higher ups, would've wanted more and maybe she would have introduced more of a plot beyond V defeating the Dark Agency? Some how, I do have a feeling it would've really only stayed as a short lived manga though. I think it was the Sailor Moon anime that really built up the popularity of Sailor Moon in Japan (and then internationally). |

| It's hard for me to imagine Sailor V as a possible series on its own without Sailor Moon. The whole thing just felt so formulaic for a series. It's still good, but I can't imagine it as much other than a MOTW series as far as overall story is concerned. |

| Well yeah, to be honest it feels like Sailor V was a good introduction to the Sailor Moon anime interestingly enough. Reading it felt very much like the same sort of pace and themes from the anime itself. It makes me wonder just how much of Sailor V is in the anime. xD |
