Her eyes are also blue, and she sometimes wears reading glasses. Ami will usually wear clothes that are some shade of blue, or pastels like yellow with white. She favors long sleeve shirts and long skirts, but will also wear sundresses and shorter skirts. In college, her wardrobe is a little more relaxed, and she will wear tee-shirts and shorts if it’s hot enough.Personality: Ami started off as shy and insecure with herself beyond her own academic skills, and others judged her as aloof, cold, and arrogant for it, believing she thought she was smarter than her classmates. But after she started making friends, Ami opened up more, though she is still somewhat hesitant around strangers. Behind her quieter looks, she cares deeply for people and enjoys helping them, wanting to be a doctor like her mother someday. She is not naturally inclined to fighting, but she has a strong sense of right and wrong and is not afraid to step in if lines are crossed. Ami likes to take her time thinking about things before she does them, coming up with plans and looking at data before making a move. She sometimes has self confidence issues, reverting back to only believing that she is good at studying. Her weakness is love letters. She reacts with embarrassment and a rash whenever she receives one, and gets flustered when romance is brought up. Despite this, she secretly loves romance novels and pop culture. Ami likes reading books, playing strategic games like chess, and pushing her knowledge further, and will sometimes show a competitive streak if someone challenges her. Ami's dream is to eventually become a doctor like her mother.Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Ami is very intelligent and has an expansive knowledge in multiple subjects, including math, the sciences, and literature. Her specialties are in the medical and biology fields, but she also has an interest in engineering and computers. She's also a great swimmer. History:Ami was born in Tokyo Japan, with a highly skilled doctor for a mother and a free spirited artist as a father. Her parents were so different in lifestyles and attitudes that it was incredible that they had gotten married in the first place, but eventually her father’s desire to travel and create art caused them to divorce, and he left for a secluded place to work on his paintings. Ami was only 5 when it happened, and sometimes blames herself for her parents breaking up. Her mother tried her best to take care of Ami after, but her job often gave her long hours, and she had less and less time to see her daughter as she became able to look after herself.Ami excelled at school, thought she was usually lonely after the other children started pushing her away for appearing too stuck up and perfect. She withdrew into herself but continued studying, deciding to go into the field of medicine when she graduated.She pushed through high school and into University without much change, though she did finally start to meet people who respected her a little more in her Biology and Medical program, and opened up a bit more to people. Having grown up around the sciences, the Jaeger program always had her interest since its recent creation, especially since an operating Shatterdome was in Tokyo itself. She often read articles and books on the mechanical, psychological, and biological sciences involved in the use of Jaegers and the mysteries of the Kaiju creatures that rose from the ocean.The Pan Pacific Defense Corps sent recruiters to her college to find people with the right aptitude to potentially be Jaeger pilots, and Ami's grades caused them to approach her for testing. She got high marks, and they extended an invitation to become a Ranger. Following the first four Kaiju attacks in San Francisco, Manila, Cabo and Sydney, a conference between all leaders of the world was called. The meeting resulted in the idea of to combat the monsters, by designing a special type of weapon; massive mechs known as Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge (it was discovered during early trials that the mental strain of controlling a Jaeger alone would overwhelm a single pilot). The Pan Pacific Defense Corps was founded sometime later by the United Nations. Ami stared at the opened envelope still clutched in her hands, unable to believe what the letter inside had said. She had passed the Pilot aptitude test, and now the Defense Corps wanted her to join them. She wasn't sure if the nauseous feeling she had now was a result of excitement or terror.
Sure, Ami was interested in the incredible feats of science that Jaegers were, but she just...wasn't cut out to actually be in one. She wasn't a figher, she studied to heal people. Ami wouldn't have even taken the test in the first place if one of her professors hadn't told her that a scout from the Tokyo Shatterdome had been asking about her, and handed her an application. She had only filled it out at all because she liked testing herself, but she never intended to actually be accepted.
And now they wanted her to pilot a Jaeger with some complete stranger and go out to kill Kaiju? She needed to decline this as soon as possible, but... This could also be a once in a lifetime opportunity to work in the Shatterdome. What would her mother say if she turned down that sort of offer? And Ami had heard that the Rangers who didn't make the cut were often offered other jobs in the Defense Corps. Surely they could use her for medical or technological research instead?
Making up her mind, Ami put the letter down on the table and went to get the phone. She'd accept the training, but what were the odds she'd even become a pilot? There was nothing to worry about...
