Appearance:

Usagi Tsukino has blue eyes, and wears her blonde knee length hair in two pigtails topped with buns known as odangos. She is 4ft11 and is the shortest amongst her friends. Even though she is quite short, her body is well proportioned with her legs being slightly longer than her torso. She is considered pretty but not a bombshell beauty like some of her friends.

Usagi likes to keep her style fairly flirty and loves wearing pastel colours, short skirts, and dresses. She also accessorizes with moons and stars, always sporting small moon earrings, and often wears a star locket with all of her favourite dresses. To accompany her clothing, she wears flat shoes, nothing too high or else she would be tripping all over herself, however, sometimes she tempts the fates with high heels.

Having been accepted into the Pan Pacific Defense Corps she knows that she will need to change her style to be more in keeping with the Defense Corps. Even though she has been accepted she’ll keep her signature hairstyle and try to let her personality / style show through in subtle ways such as nail polish, jewelry, etc.

Personality:

During middle school and the first year of high school, Usagi was a well-meaning but underachieving and accident prone crybaby. When the first attacks occurred, she started to realize that she needed to take herself more seriously and apply herself. As a result, she started to focus more on her schooling and achieving better grades to allow her into a University Program where she would be able to help everyone affected by the Kaiju’s.

While her beliefs were shaken with the attacks, her faith in humanity never wavered. She knew that she needed to do something to help bring down the Kaiju’s but she had no idea what that would entail. She just knew that she needed to put herself in a better position academically, so she would be useful after school. She also knew that she needed to train harder, hone her focusing skills and also become more self-sufficient, instead of relying on others. Bottom line: she needed to be stronger and have a more adventurous side, that would force her to fight for herself.

Even though she forced herself to harden up on the inside, she still remained the same Usagi. A friendly extrovert who always sees the best in everyone. She inherently believes that there is good in all. This belief comes from her limited exposure to different types of peoples and situations. As a result, she tries to see the good in everyone and gives them a second chance even though it sometimes backfires. She is sometimes seen as reckless due to this behavior but it is a characteristic that is intrinsic to her being and it makes her who she is. She applies this attitude not only to those who are important in her life but to strangers.

Lastly, she always ensures that everyone feels comfortable in all situations and that she comes across as helpful with new friends. She is always the first to make friends and to foster the new relationships. This is evidenced as she befriends Ami, Rei, Minako and Makoto. She also has an extremely playful side and loves her video games, hanging out with friends, shopping and lounging around.

Of note, prior to sending her application for the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, Usagi’s dream was to become a teacher to help children realize their potential, just like she had. She also wanted to have a family, similar to hers. Now, with her acceptance, she knew that those dreams would be put on hold potentially forever, as she would embark on the most dangerous journey of her life.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Usagi doesn’t have any real unique abilities other than having a high level of trust in everyone and seeing the best in them.

History:

Usagi is the eldest of 3 children in the Tsukino household. She has a younger brother, named Shingo, and a younger sister ChibiUsa, who she loves dearly (even though she can be a little annoying at times). She is also blessed that both her parents are still together, with her mother being a stay at home mom and her dad being a reporter.

Usagi grew up having a fairly perfect life. She had lots of friends growing up, was popular at school and had always had a certain joie de vivre. Her attitude towards life had always drawn people to her and allowed her to float fairly effortlessly through any ordeals that were thrown her way.

When the Kaiju began attacking, her whole life was thrown upside down. She started to question the meaning of life, and what she was going to do with hers. She realized that her current path would not allow her to fix the problem that was besieging the world.

While, Usagi had never wanted to be a fighter, what happened to her beloved city (and across the world) was unacceptable and she knew that she needed to right it somehow. She just didn’t know how to do it. At the time, the only thing that she could think of was to try and pay more attention at school. She realised that she had been lazy, irresponsible and was denying her true potential. As a result, she started to focus more in school in order to raise her grades, with the hopes of being accepted into University. Her friends helped her through those rough times and she was quite happy to have them as supporters / tutors throughout the rest of her High School career.

After High School, she was accepted into a local University in a teaching program. It had never been her dream to enlist into the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, but when she heard that her little sister made it her mission to be recruited, she knew she had to follow. She couldn’t let her sister throw her life away and get killed. As a result, she started to train with her friends in an attempt to be admitted into the program. She knew it was a long shot. After all, she was barely 4ft11 with an accompanying small stature, she lacked muscle and brain power to think rationally in defense situations, but she had heart. She’d rely on that aspect of her personality to really boost her scores with the Corps and to hopefully be accepted.

She never aspired to be a pilot in a Jaeger, that was just not her, that was her sister. But if she could be nearby to provide her support and ensure that she would stay alive; then she had accomplished her mission. But when she was accepted into the program, she was in complete shock for days and only advised her parents and siblings weeks after ChibiUsa had been let in. She didn’t want to take away the focus from her sister because she knew that this was her dream and not hers.

At first, she was apprehensive and terrified of being admitted into the Corps but after a few days, she felt oddly at peace with it. A small fire had been ignited in the pit of her stomach, and she was now actually looking forward to doing it more for her country than just keeping an eye on her sister. She now felt like she had a real purpose in life.

Storyline Specific Information:
Concordia - Five years ago, colossal monsters identified as Kaiju have risen from an interdimensional rift in a crevice beneath the Pacific Ocean, resulting in a war that takes millions of lives and quickly consumes humanity's resources.

Following the first four Kaiju attacks in San Francisco, Manila, Cabo and Sydney, a conference between all leaders of the world was called. The meeting resulted in the idea of to combat the monsters, by designing a special type of weapon; massive mechs known as Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge (it was discovered during early trials that the mental strain of controlling a Jaeger alone would overwhelm a single pilot).

The Pan Pacific Defense Corps was founded sometime later by the United Nations. The Defense Corps represents an international alliance of twenty-one countries across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju with the Jaeger Program.

This year, a new group of trainee pilots (also called Rangers) are starting their training in the Tokyo Shatterdome, and must learn to work together with each other as well as finding their ‘other half’ if they ever hope to become a real Ranger.

Usagi never aspired to be part of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps and even less to be pilot in a Jaeger. The only reason that she enrolled was to keep an eye on her sister. She had trained hard with her friends to become a better candidate and when she finally applied, she thought she might have a chance to be admitted.

When she was accepted she was quite surprised at her own reaction to the news; she was happy. She finally felt like she could make a difference in the world. When Usagi originally applied she thought she would be part of the support crew but fate had other plans for her. Instead, she was accepted into the jaeger program as a pilot. Part of her role in the RP will be her dealing with this monumental task and learning to work with her new found friends and jaeger partner.

Usagi sat in her room clutching the letter between her fingers against her chest. She had been accepted, she kept on repeating. How had they agreed to let her into such a program, she thought to herself as she removed the letter from her chest again. She read it over quickly and couldn’t help but feel elated and terrified at the prospect that she would be part of the training program.

When she had first applied, it was only to keep an eye on her sister, and she assumed that would have been accepted into one of the lower level programs. She never anticipated that she would be accepted into the pilot training program. How had she even passed the test? There was no way that these could be her results, as she read them over and over again. They were good, no, they were better than good, and as a result, they wanted her.

Overwhelmed, she placed the letter down beside her and took a deep breath, to steady the nerves that were mounting in her. Part of her wondered, if by accepting to attend, if she was signing her death wish. Truth was, she didn’t want to die but she also didn’t want to throw her life away doing nothing, while others sacrificed themselves. She needed to help but she was terrified.

You’re doing this for ChibiUsa… she reminded herself which forced her to stop her racing thoughts. She breathed in shakily as she sat up from her bed and went to her dresser, opening the first drawer to stash her letter away. She wouldn’t say anything or decide on her admittance into the program, until she knew that her sister was also admitted into the program. For now, she would act like nothing happened, and just go on with life as she knew it.
