Character Name: Usagi Tsukino
Gender: Female
Age and Date of Birth: 16/June 30
Used Canons: Sailor Moon (manga, anime), Puella Magi Madoka Magica (anime)
Appearance: Usagi has long, blonde hair, which she pulls up into two buns on the top of her head. Her eyes are blue, filled with kindness and energy. Her face is a little round, betraying her of her not-so-secret love of food. Her figure is slender, but not lean. Her stomach is soft with a small bit of pudge and her muscles lack any real definition. She is rather short, standing only at 158 cm (5 feet, 1 inch).
Typically, she is dressed in her school uniform: a seifuku with a blue collar, red bow, and a blue, knee-length, pleated skirt. Over the knot of her red bow, she typically wears her brooch, which holds the Silver Crystal and enables her to transform into Sailor Moon.
When she is not dressed in her school uniform, she typically can be found wearing something with pink or blue. She has no particular set fashion and she’ll wear anything from cute tank tops with shorts to comfy sweaters with long skirts. She always manages to look put-together.
Personality: Usagi is typically known for being lazy—and a crybaby. She is not the studious sort and often does poorly on her tests in school. However, that’s not too say she is stupid; she simply doesn’t apply herself. She is a sensitive and emotive girl. She can be easily hurt by unkind words, especially if they’re from people she cares about. But she’s also a bit of a spitfire as she doesn’t take criticism very well.
Although she sometimes feels insecure about herself, she never feels insecure about making friends. She has a tendency to disregard rumours about others and makes her own decisions about people based on her interactions with them. She loves deeply and cares greatly for her friends and family, willing to sacrifice herself to protect them.
Usagi entered her contract with Kyubey without hesitancy. She believed that she understood the creature’s intentions and that she truly would be able to protect everyone from the witches.
Despite her gentle heart, Usagi is a tenacious fighter. As she grows as a person and evolves as as magical girl, she becomes startlingly powerful and determined, though she remains as kindhearted as ever. She values life immensely and doesn't believe in sacrificing others for “the greater good”. She always believes that there is a better way, but should a friend sacrifice him- or herself for Usagi, she does not allow their death to be in vain. She believes in giving others second chances and restoring those closest to her.
Her dream is to become a bride and she is afraid of losing those she loves most. She also isn’t very fond of thunderstorms. Her favorite gemstones are moonstones and rhinestones.
Any Unique Abilities/Skills:– Usagi’s Soul Gem is supposedly incorruptible. Kyubey’s goal is to try to break Usagi and turn her Soul Gem into, perhaps, the most powerful Grief Seed ever seen.
History: Usagi Tsukino was the first born and only daughter to Kenji and Ikuko Tsukino. She has a younger brother named Shingo. She had lead a relatively mediocre life, going to school, earning poor grades—mostly because she didn’t try to apply herself in her studies—, but everything changed when she was sixteen. She had gone to pick up her brother from karate lessons when she first encountered a strange creature. It was cat-like, but it had these strange secondary ears that hung out from its cat ears with these golden hoops that floated around them… The girl almost wondered if she was dreaming, especially since it spoke to her. It told her that her brother wouldn’t be coming and then, in a blink of an eye, the creature was gone.
Troubled by the creature’s words, Usagi investigated and found her brother Shingo cornered by a pair of bullies. Usagi pleaded at first, but they ignored her, pushing her away. Shingo lashed out at them and their full attention fell on the younger boy again. The second time, Usagi threatened them. It was a weak threat. “If you don’t leave my brother alone, I will report you!” she had told them. It drew their attention from her brother to her though. It was enough to let Shinji escape and find help, but the result of the encounter landed Usagi in the hospital. She was neither strong nor athletic, so she was easily overtaken by the boys.
While in hospital, the strange creature appeared again, asking her if she wanted to become a Magical Girl, if she had a wish she wanted granted. Usagi shook her head, gently telling the creature that she didn’t have anything to wish for. The creature only disappeared again. Usagi hadn’t really thought much of it as it had been the middle of the night when the thing had appeared. She thought she had just been dreaming or something.
A few weeks later, it was the class trip. They were driving up a winding mountain road and, as they drove, the road only became windier and the sky darker. No one had really noticed, except Usagi. She hadn’t quite been like her usual self—so much so that Naru had ended up scolding her for it and moving to sit with their other friends.
Usagi had been staring out the window.
Suddenly, the bus driver fell unconscious at the wheel, the deadweight of his leg causing the bus to accelerate. The bus, however, didn’t drive off the edge of the steep drop-off it was headed towards. Instead, the road detached from the mountainside and proceeded forward
into the air. No one else but Usagi noticed this. Everyone else was too busy panicking and screaming. Usagi was, too, but she was sitting in the front seat adjacent from the bus driver. The creature appeared before Usagi again. It explained to her that she wasn’t dreaming and that they were in a Witch’s Labyrinth, heading straight for the Witch’s mouth. Usagi stared at the creature with wide eyes, disbelief writ across her face. “You can save them, though, Usagi Tsukino,” the creature explained. “Make a contract with me, and you can save everyone.” Its ruby eyes shimmered.
Usagi was speechless and looked past the creature to see the bus approaching the strangest tunnel she had ever seen.
The Witch’s mouth.
“A Witch?” she questioned hastily, licking her lips.
“Yes, Witches are creatures that feeds off of misery and spread curses. They will affect humans near them through the use of a Witch’s Kiss.” The creature’s eyes almost were glowing now in the growing darkness.
“A Witch’s Kiss?” Usagi’s head was swimming, her panic rising. She had to do something!
“It’s a Mark that appears on a human target,” the creature explained calmly. “The Witch has chosen that man there, but there will be more victims if you do not hurry,” the creature explained. And almost as if on cue, Usagi heard Naru cry out in panic as one of their classmates fell unconscious.
“There’s more than just this Witch?” Usagi asked.
The creature nodded in affirmation and Usagi looked at the unconscious bus driver, and then over her shoulder at her peers, screaming and crying behind her. She then looked back at the cat-sized creature in front of her. “I’ll do it then,” she said with a firm nod. “I’ll make a contract with you.”
“What is it that you wish?” The creature’s eyes sparkled even bright, if it was possible.
“I wish to be able to fight these witches forever. I wish to be able to protect everyone forever,” she declared.
The creature seemed momentarily taken aback by her wish as if it were genuinely surprised, but Usagi really couldn’t tell, for it wore the same sweet but hollow expression. The contract was made, though, and her Soul Gem appeared. Usagi was able to move driver’s foot from the accelerator and the bus eventually came to a stop, but there was still the Witch to deal with. “The only way to escape the Labyrinth was to stop the Witch,” the creature—Kyubey had explained.
It was her first fight and it had been trying. Kyubey guided her and directed her as she fought. Unbeknownst to her, with the wish she had made and the way her Soul Gem glowed with untainted light, Usagi was much too valuable to be lost to it. Kyubey had to keep her safe. The potential of her power was too great to lose.
The Witch was finally defeated in a blast of pure light. Usagi was exhausted, tired beyond belief, but relieved to see the Witch’s Labyrinth fade around her and the bus. She had passed out a little ways down the road and woke up in the hospital again, a Grief Seed was clutched in her hand.
Storyline Specific Information:
[Advanced] Puella Magi Usagi MagicaThe Incubator has arrived in Tokyo City.
In all the years of making contracts with young girls, Kyubey has never found one quite like Usagi Tsukino. She is unique in the way that her Soul Gem is incorruptible. No matter how much she uses her magic, it never turns black. It's self-sufficient and does not need Grief Seeds to power it. This is a phenomenon that is unheard of, though perhaps it has something to do with how she became a magical girl in the first place. She saw the suffering caused by the witches and made the selfless wish of being able to fight against them indefinitely. For all eternity.
This did not make her invincible. She could get hurt, and could still die in battle. But her Soul Gem would never expire for as long as she could continue to fight. The downside was that the brightness of her Soul Gem also attracted numerous witches into her area. Her extraordinary shine called out to the deepest darkness. And so her battles were destined to never end.
But Kyubey saw the potential in her to become the strongest witch the world has ever seen, if only he could figure out how to crush the eternal hope she carried. And so he concocted a plan. He found four lonely girls who needed a friend. He would make a contract with each of them and gather four other magical girls whom he would enlist to be her guardians. He would tell them that it was their job to dedicate their lives to protect the most important magical girl in the world. The one who was destined to save them all one day.
He would wait for the five girls to form an unbreakable bond. Then he planned to watch the other four self-destruct - as they always, inevitably do - and turn into witches, forcing Usagi to kill them by her own hands.
Surely that would finally introduce her to the concept of despair.
Surely that would be enough to corrupt her incorruptible Soul Gem.
Everyone had a limit, after all.

Magical Girl Information
Realm of Influence(s): Light
Magical Girl Uniform: Starting from the top of her head, Usagi’s uniform begins with a pair of white feathered hair clips that decorate her pigtails. She sports a pair of gold dangling star earrings on her ears—the stars representing her power of Light. The top of her uniform is comprised of three layers. The first layer is a white bolero with gold, pink, and black accents. The shoulders of the bolero are puffed and flare into bell-shaped sleeves. A pink bow with her round Soul Gem—pink when inactive, golden when active—sits on its center. Beneath her bolero is a black vest with white frilly trim. A large gold and pearlescent brooch pins the vest together, over the white blouse beneath it. The blouse is simple enough with a v-neck and gold decorative buttons. Her flowy skirt is comprised of two layers. The bottom layer is carnation pink and the overlayer of the skirt is powder pink. Her legs are covered with black stockings and she wears a pair of pink shoes with star buckles and pink ribbons that weave up her legs just below the knee before tying off in the back.
Powers: Light – Usagi's power source is the Light that comes from inside of her. It stems from her innocence, purity, and hope. When in use, the Light can manifest itself in the pink orb that rests atop Usagi’s staff.
Purification – Usagi will later gain the ability to purify witches back into magical girls. However, only witches that have recently become so can be turned back into magical girls. If they have been a witch for longer than longer than a few days, Usagi will be unable to return them to their original forms.
Weapons/Magical Items: Tsue no Shintou (杖の神灯, “Staff of Sacred Light”) – Usagi utilizes a staff that conducts, and has the ability to enhance and focus, her power of Light. The staff itself looks delicate, comprised of a milky crystal stave with a giant, round pink star sapphire at the top. Arching around the pink orb are pearlescent wings, made of the same crystal as the stave of the staff, that almost seem like crescent moons at a distance. When the Light is activated in the staff, the pink orb’s starburst brightens and the orb itself turns golden. And the crystal wings surrounding the staff become iridescent and clear. At the base of the staff sits an obsidian, leaf-shaped spearhead. Usagi has yet to utilize this feature of her staff.
Soul Gem – Usagi’s Soul Gem is what allows her to harness the Power of Light and transform into a magical girl. She obtained her Soul Gem after making her contract with Kyubey.
RP Sample: “Are you listening, Usagi? Usagi? Usagi!”
Usagi blinked, her eyes wide with surprise as she turned to look at her friend sitting next to her. Naru’s face was clearly writ with annoyance. “Were you even listening to me?” the auburn-haired girl asked irritably.
Usagi blushed, a rueful titter passing through her lips. “I’m sorry, Naru. Could you—” But her friend didn’t wait to let her finish. “What is with you, Usagi?” Naru scolded. “I know you’ve had a lot going on, but you haven’t even been listening to me!”
“I’m sorry, Naru. I’ve just been a little distracted,” Usagi said, a little shame-faced. But Naru wasn’t in the mood to be forgiving to Usagi—not today. Usagi had been “a little distracted” since she came back to school a week ago. Naru had been kind and attentive and had listened to everything Usagi told her, but when Naru needed Usagi to listen, the blonde just hadn’t. Usagi would start off listening, but then she would get this far-off look in her eyes and Naru could tell her mind was wandering. So Naru stood up and informed Usagi that she was going to go sit with Umino instead. Usagi gawked after her friend. Umino, of all people?!
Usagi turned her head, pouting a little, but her eyes returned to staring out the window. It seemed strange that it suddenly seemed to be getting darker outside. It was supposed to be sunny and warm today…
Suddenly, Usagi felt the bus accelerate—alarmingly fast. She heard her peers gasp and Usagi’s gaze turned to the bus driver. She saw him leaning over the steering wheel, completely unconscious! Her eyes darted forward, looking at the road before them. They were headed straight for a turn, one that would send them sailing over the mountainside. Usagi gasped, but they didn’t drive off the edge. Instead, the road detached from the mountainside and proceeded forward into the air! Usagi gawked. How was this even possible?! No one seemed to notice this; they were too busy panicking and screaming as the bus drove recklessly forward.
When Usagi turned back around, the creature was standing before her on the railing. She had seen this strange creature twice now, but it had seemed too unreal to be real.
“This isn’t a dream,” it stated simply, as if it could read her thoughts. “We’re in a Witch’s Labyrinth, heading straight for the Witch’s mouth.”

“I wish to be able to fight these witches forever. I wish to be able to protect everyone forever,” she declared.
The creature seemed momentarily taken aback by her wish as if it were genuinely surprised, but Usagi really couldn’t tell, for it wore the same sweet but hollow expression.
The contract was forged and Usagi felt something appear in her hand. She looked down and saw her Soul Gem, brilliant and beautiful. It was glowing, beckoning her to activate it. With a small nod and look of determination on her face, her school clothes faded and she stood ready in her new uniform.
She didn’t realize it then. She hadn’t fully understood it then, but her life was now radically changed forever.
