| Advanced Character Profile Character Name: Mamoru ChibaGender: MaleAge and Date of Birth: 24, August 3rd Used Canons:Sailor Moon, Pacific Rim Appearance: Tall and broad-shouldered, Mamoru has a sleek physique that often belies the toned musculature beneath his usual well-tailored attire. From a distance he can appear a little intimidating, with his cool expression and deep blue eyes that tend to focus either beyond the observer or right into them. His hair is on the longer side of short and pitch black; when he joined the forces he had shaved it short, but having never found a compatible drift partner he just let it grow. Now serving as more of a trainer or instructor than a candidate to pilot a Jaegar, he often wears training dark blue training suits or a plain grey tee-shirt with black training pants, else a business suit for more official interactions. Personality: Please include as much detail as possible. May also include: dreams/goals/amibitions, likes, dislikes, weaknesses, and strengths.Strengths: Independent - Mamoru is independent and works well on his own, especially with projects he has complete control over, but he is much happier with an audience of sorts - just someone to admire and appreciate him and his efforts. He is perfectly capable of being successful without an 'audience,' but is happier to have someone to share his achievements with and works well if someone is looking up to him. He prefers not to be alone, but can act alone.Patient and Encouraging - When working with others, Mamoru is grants others a good amount of time to attempt an activity before he intervenes; some personalities try his patience more than others, however. He encourages those who struggle, and helps them when he can.Confident - In everything he does, Mamoru is self-confident, even appearing so when he is not 100% sure of what he is doing. His confidence stems from his constant push to do his best, and if he does his best, that's all he can do and so is satisfied with it. This confidence often inspires confidence in others.Resourceful, Clever, Analytical - Mamoru is very bright, and can look at situations in a different light to come up with solutions to problems that some might not have even considered yet. He is resourceful, able to look around to see how seemingly unrelated things - objects or ideas - can combine to create the solution to a problem, and analytical, in that he can evaluate different ideas for validity by comparing them to things he has learned or experienced in the past.Courageous - being independent and confident along with resourceful leads to being courageous - he can step forward when no one else can or wants to in order to face a problem and attempt to solve it. He often keeps people at arms length, despite wanting them to be closer.Somewhat inhibited - Being stubborn and a little hesitant to make the first step socially, he often chooses simply not to attempt in social situations, as opposed to putting himself out there.Other traits: secretly a little vain, can be pretentious, not all that kind towards criticism (takes it way too personally) Any Unique Abilities/Skills: After a lot of training, he excels at his own styling of martial arts and various armed combat techniques (a polearm). History: Five years ago, colossal monsters identified as giant monsters, or Kaiju, rose from a rift beneath the Pacific Ocean and started attacking human cities. Thousands of humans died within the first year. Putting up a fight against them, building walls around civilization, quickly consumed humanity's resources. After an attack on four of the more populated cities - San Francisco, Manila, Cabo, and Sydney, a conference between all world leaders was called. The result was to build giant robots to combat the monsters, having designed a special type of system - the Drift - to combat these mechas called Jaegars. The Drift proved too powerful for one person to run alone, and so required two specially-trained pilots - one pilot to control the left hemisphere, the other controlled the right. They needed to work in complete phase with each other in order to fully control the robot to its highest potential. As the robots were completed and training programs started to produce pilots, the United Nations formed the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, an international alliance of twenty-one countries across the Pacific Rim banded together to share the goal of containing and eliminating the Kaiju with the Jaeger program.-----Mamoru was born and raised in Tokyo; he lost his parents to a tragic accident when he was 6 years old, and from there entered childrens' homes until he could live on his own. He always worked hard and did his best, though he didn't quite know what field he wanted to get into. Part of him wanted to become a doctor; part a physicist; part just wanted to protect people, and so he joined the military. After basic training, he went to college to pursue a degree in physics with an expectation of joining the nuclear physics program, but also took basic classes to get certified as a field medic, attempting to fulfill all of his dreams at once. Mamoru joined the Jaegar program as soon as Tokyo got theirs up and running, transferring from another martial program in hopes of piloting one of the Jaegars. He felt it was his duty to protect the world in whatever way he could. However, he did not easily get his chance. Despite his capability in battle, no other pilot came along that was Drift Compatible with him. Years passed, and while he was still considered a Jaegar Candidate, he served more as a trainer for new recruits. While watching them move on to piloting the robots, fighting, living and dying, made him proud, he always felt a little cheated by fate that he could never really do his part to protect the world. Five years ago, colossal monsters identified as Kaiju have risen from an interdimensional rift in a crevice beneath the Pacific Ocean, resulting in a war that takes millions of lives and quickly consumes humanity's resources.
Following the first four Kaiju attacks in San Francisco, Manila, Cabo and Sydney, a conference between all leaders of the world was called. The meeting resulted in the idea of to combat the monsters, by designing a special type of weapon; massive mechs known as Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge (it was discovered during early trials that the mental strain of controlling a Jaeger alone would overwhelm a single pilot).
Only pilots that are ‘drift compatible’ will be able to operate a Jaeger together effectively. Drifting is a process that two Jaeger pilots undergo prior to synchronizing with the Jaeger itself. The process of Drifting is a type of mind-meld that requires the pilots to share memories, instinct and emotions. Drifting allows them to act as one and control the very movement of the Jaeger itself, one pilot controlling the "right hemisphere", the other the "left hemisphere". Whether two pilots are ‘drift compatible’ with one another, depends largely on their personal connection and their ability to work in sync with each other. Drift compatibility is potential that exists between two people, however, it is not predetermined by the relationship (or lack thereof) of the compatible persons.
The Pan Pacific Defense Corps was founded sometime later by the United Nations. The Defense Corps represents an international alliance of twenty-one countries across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju with the Jaeger Program.
This year, a new group of trainee pilots (also called Rangers) are starting their training in the Tokyo Shatterdome, and must learn to work together with each other as well as finding their ‘other half’ for the drifting process if they ever hope to become a real Ranger.
Details on any necessary information: This is an AU that takes place in the Pacific Rim (2013 movie) universe. The characters are on their young adult age (20+) and have just been recruited into the pilot training program. They are ordinary humans, not senshi. This RP will explore their relationships with each other and how to create the most effective pairs in order to control the Jaegers and then eventually start fighting the Kaiju with the newly formed teams. It's mostly character study with some actions interspersed.

In a well-practiced way, he placed the mug on his desk beside the trainee paperwork and stood in one fluid motion, then left his small room, tossing his reading glasses onto his bed as he closed the door behind him. His stride was swift and steps were long, carrying him to the main floor quickly as he expertly dodged around slower moving people, people who went to different quarters when the alarms went off, people who rushed towards different areas where their knowledge and expertise would be of better use. The main floor was careful chaos, and Mamoru navigated it easily, taking stairs two at a time towards the loading platform for his Jaeger. As he rushed in and started folding himself into his suit, he let the realization sink in a little farther - he was finally a Jaeger Pilot. No longer watching from the sidelines, no longer lamenting he could not be there to fight off the Kaiju in a more direct manner, no longer watching as his former classmates and people he has trained face death - he was there, in the moment, able to affect the outcome of battle directly. He had one person to thank for it. As he zipped up the front of his suit he saw her finishing up hers and his heart swelled in that same, curious way he had finally identified as gratefulness. If it weren't for her, as aggravating as she could be sometimes, as frustrating as she could be sometimes, as annoyingly cute she could be sometimes -- he redirected his thoughts -- if it weren't for her, he would never have found his match. He might never be drift compatible with anyone else, so regardless of how she even got here, he was grateful that they, somehow, thought and fought similarly enough to pilot their jaeger together."You ready, Tsukino?" he asked, masking his excitement as he touched her shoulder lightly on his way to the lift that would take them in.
