| Here is mine: And couple questions, where did you find this png? Did you clean this one yourself? (If i remember this is a Marco Albiero(sp?) art right?) Do you have a recommendation for good resources for pngs like this? Cause sometimes what stops me from using a certain image is that i either am lazy and don't feel like cleaning it, or its something i know will take a long time to clean and make look good. |

| This is Marco's work, and for those of you who don't know he is the Italian Sailor Moon artist, so while not by Naoko, I consider it official art more or less. I cut this piece out for a Sailor cosmos set of graphics I did on tumblr a long time ago. However, I run a semi, barely active graphics Sailor Moon tumblr called Elysionsgarden on tumblr with Oshiokiyo. There are some pre cut out graphics on there, you can Google Sailor Moon render or Sailor Moon pngs and find some but to be honest I cut out most my stuff and it really does suck, and the part of graphics I hate the most. |

| Okie, I was curiuos. I know from time to time I would see png renders on tumblr but didn't know if there was a good resource. (and yeah i consider marco official work since they use it officially, i just wanted to make sure i had a good eye on for it xD). Yeah cutting out is a pain... you did a really good job with this one. ^^ Your cut outs are really nice and clean. |

| I use my drawing tablet for more complex ones like this, much much faster since I'm normally zoomed in 300% or more on an image. |

| I didn't know copy-pasting is a popular method. I usually just drag the image from one canvas to another |

| Oh I don't know if it is the popular method, just my personal prefered method. I started with photoshop elements 7 once upon a time so a lot carried over. |

This is off topic for the class but does that mean we can use his art for the Weekly Graphic Contests? I wasn't sure his art counted as official so I never used it. |

| I've always used the drag and drop method too. xD And Marco's work has also shown up on US released merchandise so yeah, I always felt it was okay too. |

| I made the background img myself using color picker to pick a range of colors. Then using the airbrush that comes with photoshop. To blend it perfectly I used gaussian blur on it. |

| January 02, 2014 - Assignment #3 Due January 03 by 8pm PST Today we will be adding a drop shadow and a png to the image. 1. Download image 1 and image 2. 2. Image one is a "drop shadow"*. Using the same method as before (copy and paste) OR dragging it into the canvas, add it to our main image. 3. Repeat the same with the png** of image 2. 4. Now we have to make sure that our image layers are in the right place now. The subject should be the top most layer, followed by the drop shadow, then the flower png, then finally the background. The order should look like this: https://i.imgur.com/dGJxeKs.png 5. Once your layers are in order, move the drop shadow to be about a quarter of an inch to the right of the subject. You can see the first post for how it's supposed to look. 6. Now we need to balance*** the flower png to be about in the middle of the subject and it's drop shadow. Once again, take a look at the first post where our final header image goal is and see if you can come close. 7. Upload your image or your screenshot. * Drop Shadow - Yes there are many ways to do this, in this instance, once my subject was cut out, I made sure I had the Rectangular Marquee tool selected and the subject layer selected. I right clicked, chose "Load Selection", and this gives me the shape of the subject in a selection. In a new layer I used the paint bucket to fill in the selection. The main reason I chose to add a drop shadow is because the subject and the colors of the background are similar and I wanted to create separation between them and to add a little depth to it. ** This was one 1 flower png from a png pack I downloaded AGES ago. I used the image twice and changed it's size both times, and once I was done I merged the layers. ( If you select both layers you want to merge, hit ctrl + e) Pngs is the graphic term for cut out images, typically things like flowers, and such. *** Balance is something I too into account when sizing and placing my flowers. If you look at how the subject's hair falls you'll see I mimic how it flowed. She has more flowy hair on the bottom left vs the smaller amount of hair in the upper right. I chose to size and place my flowers to accent that. Another alternative would have been to reverse and mirror them. Aka the smaller flower above the large amount of hair on the left and the larger flower on the bottom right under the smaller amount of hair. These are just things you learn by moving things around, getting feedback, looking at other people's work. |

Queenie-sensei, I have a little question... Do I need to save my works as a .psd so I can continue to work on them later? I opened the 1st assignment (I saved it as a .png) and the layers were merged. I know that by saving it as a .psd I can still mantain my layers, but I thought it worked with .pngs as well. Does it not? |

| You'll have to save them as a .psd! It's basically Photoshop's save file that saves everything as layers and allows you to open it all and edit everything! Saving it as a .png merges the layers into a single image instead of an editable format =[ |

That is correct, as said in the Day one Assignment, I suggested that you save it as a .psd ^^ I always save a .psd AND a png when I am finished. |
