So what's the deal with Naru's energy in episode 23 and 24 of the original Sailor Moon anime?  When Naru tries to save Nephrite, she starts glowing this weird red energy thing around her and Nephrite's crystal starts reacting to it.  At first Nephrite thinks it's just reacting to the energy created by her love, but then in episode 24 Nephrite starts to think Naru might have the Silver Crystal in her.  Of course we find out that she doesn't, but then why did the show make such a big deal about Naru's energy in those two episodes?  I remember as a kid before I knew anything about Sailor Moon and I was still a newbie to the show, I used to think Naru would go on to eventually become a Sailor Soldier herself and that was the reason for her energy reaction.  I would have loved it if Naru became a Sailor Soldier and got to fight alongside her best friend, Usagi.  Naru being a Soldier would have also explained why the bad guys always seemed so attracted to her energy and always tried to drain her all the time.  Plus, it would give that poor girl a way to defend herself.  But the show just seems to drop it and they just completely forget about that subplot with her energy.  It seems like a cop out to just explain it as the power of love so what are your theories about Naru?

She has a brighter than usual Star Seed, maybe. Maybe if she was pushed enough, she might have started developing powers of her own, like Mamoru's lower level abilities. I don't think I want her to be a senshi though...

In looking at Naru, and Queen Beryl, you do see a bit of a resemblance between the two, no?

Is it possible that Naru had abilities like Beryl did?

BTW, what exactly was Beryl supposed to be during the period of the Golden Kingdom?

The funny thing is that Naru is almost a dead ringer for Minako.

I believe Beryl worked in the palace.

I think one could envision Beryl as either a) a lower level noble in the Earth Kingdom or b) an Earth Kingdom Princess or c) (though I think this somewhat unlikely) a servant in the Earth Kingdom Palace. One way or another, she has an unrequited love for Endymion. As a Servant she probably never would have had a chance and it would be unlikely she could have persuaded an army to rally behind her. So I think Princess or lesser nobility. I would even venture a head-canon that she was at one point betrothed to Endymion before Princess Serenity happened on the scene.

As for Naru being like Beryl- I think most of Beryl's powers come directly from Metalia, while Naru's energy seems to be solely her own. But, if you want to read something into the physical similarities between the two, maybe she and Beryl were related some way either during SilMil or before Beryl "reawakened" in the 20th century (if Beryl was reawakened rather than in a stasis).

Just imagine if Naru had actually been Queen Beryl in civilian form. That would have changed the story entirely.

I think Naru is just ordinary human and the show abuses her because she's Usagi's best friend. Things are more at stake when your friend's life is on the line.

Imagine that, Usagi killing Beryl only to learn that she's also Naru.

Well since its love energy, I kinda thought it was hinting that the power of love is as strong as the silver crystal itself. It was Usagi's love for Mamoru that brought the silver crystal out in episode 34, and in the end of the series, Usagi's love saved everyone from Chaos.

Though the dark crystal led to Naru since the power of love is stronger than the silver crystal itself. Usagi's love was also able to undo the dark kingdom's brainwashing on Mamoru and not the silver crystal.

If only they could buy a crystal and store their love energy in it, it would be stronger than the silver crystal.

I think it might be a bit too far fetched to say Naru is Beryl in disguise but Naru having some kind of power would explain why she suddenly seems to know Usagi is Sailor Moon during the R season.

Here's my theory on the original question.  I think it's probably some combination of [1] the power of Naru's love for him being at least as strong as the Silver Crystal's power (similar to what Sailor Lily theorized), and [2] the original intent of the anime show's creators to delve further into Naru's powers at some later point.  Meaning they had meant to give her some sort of low-level power, similar to TuxMask's power in that show, but then those good intentions had to get shoved aside at some later point due to time and/or budget constraints.

I don't know how many people are familiar with the ongoing "Shadowjack Watches Sailor Moon" (which originated on another forum I'm on), but there's long been a kind of half-joking/half-serious theory in that about Beryl being Naru's mother. Doesn't entirely explain why we actually see Naru's mother at the beginning of every version of the Sailor Moon story (adopted, perhaps?), but it's amusing nonetheless.

Why did Queen Serenity send everyone from Silver Millennium (Including Beryl) to be reborn in the Galaxy Cauldron?

I've got two theories on this new question.  I figure it must be some combination of these two.

[1] The original Queen Serenity had to seal the villains with her guardians (meaning she had no better choice, given her power).

[2] By sealing her guardians with Beryl, she was doing good planning for whenever Beryl would eventually break her seal.  That is, the original Queen Serenity knew that at some time, Beryl would break the seal that Q.S. could seal her in.  And by having her guardians reborn in the same place, they would be where needed to take care of Beryl again.

How then do we explain Nehelenia at the birth of Princess Serenity?
