Five years ago, colossal monsters identified as Kaiju have risen from an interdimensional rift in a crevice beneath the Pacific Ocean, resulting in a war that takes millions of lives and quickly consumes humanity's resources.

Following the first four Kaiju attacks in San Francisco, Manila, Cabo and Sydney, a conference between all leaders of the world was called. The meeting resulted in the idea of to combat the monsters, by designing a special type of weapon; massive mechs known as Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge (it was discovered during early trials that the mental strain of controlling a Jaeger alone would overwhelm a single pilot).  

The Pan Pacific Defense Corps was founded sometime later by the United Nations. The Defense Corps represents an international alliance of twenty-one countries across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju with the Jaeger Program.

This year, a new group of trainee pilots (also called Rangers) are starting their training, and must learn to work together with each other as well as finding their ‘other half’ if they ever hope to become a real Ranger.

I'm alright with either of the two, but I think we could combine the first with the second and have the outer senshi join the AU as a third option, in case more people wanted to play.

I'd prefer option number one though. ^^

I think I prefer the AU-setting, in general. I'd love to play Chibi Usa as a younger sister of Usagi, if such a thing were possible, but if that doesn't fit with what you'd like I can live with it. ^_~

I like the first one myself, where they're not senshi, but have the outers included as well.

both are interesting but i would like to see #2..Makoto and Haruka comes to mind..for some reason..

I'm more inclined toward #2. But there are only four outers and five inners counting Moon.Unless you're teaming Sailor Moon with Tuxedo Mask?

Also..I told myself I was not going to enter any more RPS for a bit...but why are there so many wonderful ideas? LOL

Yeah, Moon could team up with Tux.

Maybe we can mesh the ideas by combining the things we like in both? So include the Outers in the AU universe (I think we may have enough interested players) but still they have to pair up according to the outer/inner ratio. I don't know if we should start with them all being strangers though because with that large a cast, it would take forever for them just to get to know each other since there are many more pairing combinations that can be made. I personally like the part in #2 where the senshi already have history with each other and come with sets of expectations rather than a blank slate, but maybe we can have this group already somewhat friends or at least acquaintances?

They could have just lived in the Juuban District of Tokyo together, going to the same school so they've all seen each other before.

That sounds good. I’ve been brainstorming ways they could know each other. I have only seen parts of the film, so how did these pilots get chosen?

Some of the things I was thinking of, and they may not work with this movie but…

1. They all work in some capacity for the air force at the same base and when disaster strikes, are pulled in as a special team to begin testing the new technology and see which pairs are able to “drift” So they would know each other from the base and day to day work.

2. They are working in some sort of a secondary role for Pan Pacific but are not Jaeger pilots…however there is a huge battle and several pilots are lost, forcing them to recruit from within quickly. Since every employee’s brainwaves (or whatever makes them compatible) are scanned, possible combinations are suggested by the computer.

I think in the movie they only showed basic training as way to judge compatibility (but it's usually a pair of family members anyway, 80% of the pairs we see are either brothers or father and son). We could totally come up with our own way of recruitment/compatibility test though.

But I do like the idea that they went to the same high school or something so they would have known each other.

So who does everyone want to play? I think we've decided we want both inners and outers, and Aurae has requested Chibiusa.

Can I claim Ami?

Hmm...so many choices. I think this tome I will do something different and go for Jupiter. Are we going relaxed or advanced?

I haven't seen Pacific Rim - would I be allowed to play anyway?  I could look stuff up on the internet if need be.

If I am allowed to play, I think I would want to be Minako.

You can play without having watched the movie, but you should definitely read up on how things work in this world ^^

I was leaning toward Advanced myself, because this will require everyone to really know their character's personality and history inside out since we will delve into that. So... unless anyone firmly objects... Advanced?

Question though. If they are not senshi / don’t have senshi powers, would they still retain their senshi memories? Or if we are only taking civilian memories, probably they are not exactly the same in this reincarnation compared to the 90’s anime for example right?

Unless maybe we went with a PGSM theme where they were senshi and have some past life memories as well, but they no longer have power? Just trying to get a bead on it for the profile. ^^

This is AU, so they are not senshi and do not have any past lives. They're just regular girls

Also ages will need to be 20 and up (college is where all of them will be recruited). I would prefer if you keep their personalities the same as in one of the canon.

If by past memories you mean before their current age, yes. I would probably not deviate too much from their canon history, for example for Mako she could still be an orphan. They just went through high school as normal girls and became interested in the pilot training program along the way for their own reasons.

Then I think I would like to play, but as Hotaru instead of Minako.

I'm gonna see if I can find the movie online totally not in a shady bit-torrent place...so I can watch the full thing. I do love this sort of theme though, like Evangelion, Voltron, Mech Warriors, etc... and that Headspace thing is going to be weird.

Cosmos, I have tied Michiru's background into Haruka's, is that okay? In my profile, I kinda have it that Haruka's the one who wants to become a pilot (because I feel like giant robots is totally Haruka's thing) and Michiru just tags along to make sure she doesn't die (and she doesn't like the idea of anyone else linking with Haruka - which if we keep our Inner/Outer pairing idea will present a glorious disaster for her).

LOL he can totally be older and looking for his other half all this time! That would make it extra worth it when he does. At the moment I'm tentatively thinking of pairing him up with Usagi since we have a surplus of inners (also makes the whole 'waiting for his other half' thing have that much oomph - also I kind of really want to name their Jaeger "Miracle Romance" or "Tuxedo Bunny" courtesy of JTC), but I'm not sure if that works. Ami is a possibility too, I guess?

And you added all the things while I was writing my reply xD I kind of want to see the hilarity of Mamoru and Minako hatemance too. But it's up to you what you feel would be most amusing/pays off best in the long run.

So I'm sitting in an airport trying to resist the urge to join this rpg. Honestly, I've been trying to resist it since I saw the idea but I keep on coming back. Why are there so many good ideas these days??? *sigh* 

So here I am. Any chance you need a Usagi? Would love to see her character deal with this type of concept. Not sure why she would have joined the forces (she's more of a peacekeeper) but I can come up with something. If she's taken I can fall back on Minako. If not I shall watch on the sidelines

Since its taking place in the Pacific Rim universe and the girls no longer have their powers and their history is different, they do need a Cross Over Profile.
