The new Sailor Moon dub is on Hulu now!   Is everyone watching it?  What are your thoughts on it so far?  So far I have mixed feelings about it.  I think Usagi's new English VA is pretty well but not as good as Terri Hawkes and Kotono Mitsuishi but it's well enough for the new dub and I'm sure she'll grow into it in the future.   Queen Beryl and Jaedite have the best of the new cast and do the perfect job with the whole sexy bad guy vibe.  I also love Mamoru's new English VA.  The ones I'm disappointed in the most are Umino's and Shingo's.  Shingo just sounds more like he's 20 than 10 years old and Roland Parliament still did the nerdy voice for Umino way better.  Still I'm glad the new dub is uncut and they have all the correct names and music.  I think this is a good dub to introduce the uncut version of Sailor Moon to if they don't like watching subbed anime.  But I think the ideal dub to me would have been if they gave us the best of both worlds and redubbed it uncut with the original DiC cast.

Every time I hear Jadeite... I think sand is going to come out of his hands... I'm expecting Mamoru to cruise around in a rocket van selling bread as well...
All that aside... I love it! It's a little hard to get used to though as I keep expecting 90s dub lines to be there... it's throwing me off.. xD

I had already posted a thread on this just a bit ago.  Should it be locked or something?  Basically I thought Usagi, Beryl, Jaedite, and Mamoru had the best voices.  I thought Umino and Shingo had the worst, especially Shingo, who sounds like he's 20 rather than 20.  Naru and the others are ok but sound a bit generic to me.  I do like the new dub is uncut and using all the Japanese names and music and is a faithful translation.  I still have a nostalgic attachment to the DiC cast and wish we could have gotten an uncut dub with them but I'll definitely be watching this new dub.

As for Umino. I find his voice funny. I think it fits him because well he's Umino.

I didn't. I was watching Cardcaptor Sakura. I do miss the old Umino voice, but at least the new guy sounds nerd like.

I watched bits of the Moonlight party while I was loading the dub videos. So many memes were born.

My favorite was Kunzite's voice actor getting a Starbucks coffee for Queen Beryl. Because crystals can be found whenever, but Pumpkin Lattes are only one season a year.

I'll shoot Ed a pm if you guys haven't already about merging. I can't wait to hear Jupiter's voice...

I'm also pumped for the reveal of Episode 24 in English. I love her new voice actor already and I haven't actually even heard Jupiter yet. XD

i just watched the first episode. i just dont know how i feel about this yet. it is gonna take some getting used to. I grew up with the dub, so all of those voices are in my head still.

I just found out lately that Wendee Lee plays Naru's mom in the Viz dub!  Wendee Lee is one of my top favorite English VAs.  She's best known for her role as Faye in Cowboy Bebop!

I adored Mary Long (Naru's voice actress) and it sure does sound like she's got a Brooklyn. I thought Rini's best friend Momoko sounded much like Naru as well. 

And Kirsten Bishop! I miss hearing her voice (ala Zoisite, Esmeraude, Kaolinite, Telulu etc...even Reika's rainbow crystal youma Techniclon!) I was really sad to hear of her death. 3= what an amazing voice gone too soon. Rest in peace, Kirsten!

Stephanie Morgenstern (Minako's voice actress from the first two seasons) is probably my favourite and she's pretty much the reason I got myself immersed with her Canadian cop show Flashpoint. I saw her in an episode of 1-800 Missing long ago as some electro shock therapy victim/mentally ill mother and all I could get in my head is Minako going through that twisted therapy! =O

What an impact voice stars have lul. Lots of talent however. =3

xD Oh yeah and she did mention the green jacket. I didn't hear it since she muttered it to herself.

But I won't consider her making fun of Mamoru's fashion mean since she isn't saying it to him directly right now, she is saying it to herself. (And lets face. We've all made fun of his fashion right out in the open. xD) 

So she did kind of make fun of Mamoru's whole civilian outfit except for his shoes. (I wonder if the shoes will survive or not xD)

Overall I'm liking it so far.  I'm about 50/50 when it comes to the new voices, though.  I've not been a big fan of the main good guy voices, except for the new Mamoru.  And I've really liked most of the new villain voices, except for the new Nephrite. XD  I'm really torn on Umino's voice.  I like that voice, I just don't know that I like it on HIM.  It's a neat voice, it just doesn't really make me think "Umino."  He's pretty cute anyway, though it was a definite facepalm moment when he had to go and say "over 9000".  As a DBZ fan, that meme got old YEARS ago and there is no way to revive it.  Umino never should have said it.

I really wish the run of new dub episodes hadn't cut off when it did, though!  I was looking forward to seeing if this new cast could make me cry like the old cast did, but no.  They had to cut it off just before that particular episode, so now I have to wait I don't know how long for more to be released. T_T

Yah that would be a face palm moment but no dub is perfect. 
I just watched episode 7!
I laughed in episode 7 when Umino was imitating a girl's voice. "You got that right girlfriend!  " It was hilarious. Also I think we heard Moonlight Densetsu's english lyrics but I wasn't sure with all the screeching.
Usagi: Just stop bothering me! I've got to go! *Walks away and thinks* Ugh go buy a new outfit.

I'm on episode 13 of this dub and I'm loving it! I have no complaints for any of the voices, and I'm glad to watch it uncut. I'm very new to the series and this feels like a fantastic opportunity to get into it.

There is something that bothered me though, not with this dub but just the writing in one area: Rei. I instantly liked the character, but she's so harsh towards Usagi for no apparent reason. It's to the point where it seems odd that Usagi and Ami would put up with her behavior. I wonder if it's different in the manga?

I'm sure that Rei's character evens out, but the anime has painted her in such a bad light so far, showing tons of negative actions and only one or two positive ones... she almost seems like a bully.

I think that's the point. Rei kind of is being a bully, but I don't think she's doing it on purpose to be a jerk. I think it's just Rei's naturally forceful, straightforward personality creating teamwork problems. Rei likes making decisions and doing things efficiently, and when you place that with Ami and Usagi's personalities, she kind of runs right over them at points. Ami just goes with it, but Usagi complains, and then that sets Rei off. Once Rei realizes that teams are supposed to work together and not be dragged around, she levels out more (though she and Usagi always have that bickering sibling relationship). This is just the senshi trying to find a niche with each other.

i need to watch more of this dub, i have been so busy though.

Her personality is different in the manga, yes. More cool than hot. The anime changed it to fit the whole passionate, fiery image of Mars.

Watching the new dub again. Still trying to get used to Umino's voice, but holy crap this dub just makes him so adorable.  Going to be sad when it gets later into the series and he kind of fades away.   Though, also looking forward to that contest thing he and Naru enter down the road.  Will be cute to see how that's played with this Umino.

Rei is a more quiet and reserved character in the manga but I think the reason she fights with Usagi in the original anime so much is because they're more similar to each other than they like to think and I think Rei doesn't like seeing the faults in herself that she sees in Usagi.  But you do have a lot of moments later in the series where the anime shows that Usagi actually considers Rei to be her closest friend, contrary to all their fights.   But welcome to the world of Sailor Moon!

We might get another Moonlight Party for the rest of Season 1 soon, guys!



And one of the comments on the page claimed that the date for the next batch of online dub episodes was going to be November 21, but I'm not sure that's entirely true. It'll get a date soon though.
