Get in kids, we're gonna talk about Ib!!! Come on, I know a few of you on here have played and liked this game. What are your overall thoughts on it? Your favorite character? Favorite ending? Do you remember which ending you got first? Do you have any ships...? <3 |

| Ib Someon said Ib Where Ib I want Ib IB IB IB I love this game to bits! ^^ My favourite character was Mary! She was the most adorable yandere ever. She was greatly misunderstood though.. And the whole "plucking Garry's petals" thing wasn't kind. My overall though was that this game was one of the best i've seen done with RPGM2000 since Yume Nikki and its spin off (.flow especially). The characters are lovable, the universe is great, the graphisms are cute, and the puzzles were really fun! Especially the one which were added in the newest update! My favourite ending is the canon one (Promise of Reunion) even though it's one of the many ending in which Mary dies. But it was a great finale in my opinion ^^ I also liked both new endings even though they were kinda creepy. - Spoiler:
You either have Mary playing with Ib and Garry's CORPSES forever or Mary dying horribly while the two others are dying as well.
My first ending was Together Forever, though. I was a bit too agressive in the way I was playing ^^" - Spoiler:
My headcanon on the game is that Even though Mary can control the Fabricated World, Guertena is the one who got Garry and Ib there to begin with and have as much power as her. (blue paint) He wanted Mary to live happily. However, in order to escape, as mentionned by the smudged book in the game, she has to kill somebody and enter in one's life. If Mary's frame is damaged, Guertena's control disapear (as his diary said he put his soul into Mary) This is why you don't see anymore messages after she dies. The last one he wrote (enter the abyss, in the new dungeon) was his last one. As you unveil his portrait, the blue paint, Guertena himself, is splashed everywhere in the room, meaning his soul finally disapeared as well. In the ending where both Ib and Garry dies, Guertena "kills" Mary to keep her forever, rather than having her wandering all alone and get herself more damaged in the human world.
And my Ib OTP is Death of Individual X Reserved seat. |

| Yesssssssssssssssssss, another Mary fan! ^_^
In my first play through of the game, while I thought Mary was a great villain and all, I thought that her actions (like trying to kill Garry) were pretty scummy, until I read her diary and then I was like "Bawwwwww ;_;"
And the game is really great for having been made in RPG Maker, which is notorious for turning out some really low-quality games (and omg, you've played Yume Nikki and .flow too? Yay!), but this game was really superb, with the plot, characters, suspense, and fun puzzles. Its definitely one of my favorite games.
I love Promise of Reunion too, its so sweet (even if my favorite character is dead). And I agree, the two new ends are incredibly creepy but also sad. I wished there would have been an ending in where all three of them had been able to get out (and they live the rest of their lives as BFFs and Mary became less yandere and evil and had a happy life as a human girl), but I guess I'll just have to be happy with Promise of Reunion.
And wow, I got Together Forever my first time around too. That's the ending I seem to always get when I'm just playing leisurely and not really aiming for any specific ending. (Mary, why you take Ib's candy? Bad Mary, bad!)
And that's an interesting theory you have there, and after reading it a couple of times I think its totally plausible.
BEST. OTP. EVER. <3 |

| I think, given my avatar and signature, it's pretty obvious I like Mary. I ended up writing a novel on my first playthrough. First impression on Ib (the game and the character) - Spoiler:
I found the game after looking up yandere images on Zerochan. I went in knowing nothing more than the fact that (1) the fanart was amazing and (2) there was a yandere character. After seeing the title screen image of Ib, I thought the plot twist would be that the other gallery was all in Ib's head, and Ib would end up killing her parents. I assumed Ib was the yandere. In my defense, she looked really creepy in that title image...
First impressions on Garry and Mary - Spoiler:
I assumed Ib was the only player character, so when I first saw Garry I thought he was a creature like the Lady in Red. "He has legs... He'll be able to catch me way easier than the Lady in Red. Game, please don't make me interact with him..." I went and grabbed the blue rose, healed it, ran past Garry to open the next door, and only interacted with him as a last resort... Needless to say, when I found out he was another PC I was surprised and relieved.
When I first saw Mary, I noticed right away that her design didn't really match the other characters. The first thing I said when I saw her avatar was "What's wrong with your eyes?!" But I didn't really suspect her of being a villain. So I suspected Ib and Garry of being antagonists, but not the actual antagonist.
I got Ib All Alone first. - Spoiler:
When I reached the sketchbook level, I wasn't aware that the game was almost over. When Mary destroyed Garry's rose, and Ib said Garry was "sleeping," I took it at face value. OTL I remember thinking, "The game's getting really good. How can I save Garry? Hm... I can't pick up the rose stem. That would make the puzzle too easy, though!"
I went back to get Garry's lighter, and tried to interact with everything. I was kind of frustrated, but at the same time I was like "Well, it's the toughest puzzle so far, so of course it'll be hard!" When I approached the portal to the real world, I figured out that I wouldn't be able to go back, and said "Well, no, game, of course I won't jump through the portal. I haven't saved Garry yet."
So my first ending was Ib All Alone. Then I got Together Forever. I didn't figure out that I couldn't rescue Garry until my sister pointed out to me that Garry was quite obviously not sleeping. OTL
When I first got Together Forever, I thought Mary had replaced Ib. I was really angry at Mary for stealing Ib's parents, more than I was at her for causing Garry to "sleep". Then she ran over and called Ib her sister and my opinion on her improved.
I like almost all Garry pairings, though I'm not a huge fan of Garry/Ib. |

| Woohoo, Mary's winning the poll! (everybody loves a cute yandere)
Ahahaha, I don't blame you for thinking that Ib and Garry were antagonists. Compared to Mary, they definitely look a lot more creepier then her. And it didn't help that Ib and Garry were so quiet, yet Mary was bouncing around happily and being a flightly little girl. (And I agree, the image of Ib on the title screen is kind of creepy, what with her soulless gaze)
Hehe, to be fair, when I first played and Gary was "sleeping", I actually did think he was sleeping, until my second playthrough and was like "oh crap, he is dead" But I went through the painting anyway, expecting him to show up and jump through as well.
And oh my goodness, I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't really like Garry/Ib. They just had too much of a father-daughter type relationship going on for my tastes. But I love Ib/Mary and Garry/Mary (Mary is a little yandere pimp, oh yeah <3) |

| Mistaking Garry for an ennemy? Yes. For Ib, it's kinda weird oo she's the protagonist, you KNOW she's a good guy
I don't like I/G either. Garry is just an older brother figure to her. he didn't gave his life for her because she was his love. But because she was a little girl. He had to do it. he was the adult here.
When I saw he was sleeping at the end of the game, I immediately understood he was dead... because... well, you die in the game when you loose your petals. Seems logical it happened to him? |

| THANK YOU, MAYO! It annoys me how people assumed Garry sacrificed himself because he was supposedly in love with Ib, but come on people. He did it because he had developed a (platonic) fondness for her, and as you said, he was the adult. He was the one that had to make the hard decisions. You couldn't really suspect a little girl to make such a choice.
The reason why I thought Garry was sleeping in my first playthrough was because the whole "if you lose all your petals you die" rule still hadn't really burrowed itself into my head. And because I'm a hopeful person. But by the second playthrough I knew he was dead and wasn't gonna be coming back. >.< |

| I've seen a few Ib/Garry fans claim they ship the two platonically, but "platonic shipping" sounds like an oxymoron to me. And then there are Ib/Garry fans that say "age is just a number," though I'm pretty sure they're joking...
I didn't see any romantic subtext between Ib and Garry- Garry definitely struck me as an "older brother" type. Honestly, I didn't see any romantic subtext between the main characters at all. I'd even be reluctant to call Mary yandere for Ib. I'd argue the term "yangire" describes Mary better than yandere. |

| I believe the reason that people claim Mary to specifically be a yandere instead of a yangire (besides not many people not knowing that term exists), is that she did develop feelings for Ib. Yanderes don't necessarily have to snap over someone they love in a romantic sense, they could always snap over someone they love in a platonic fashion (and I believe the game made it clear that Mary saw Ib as a very good friend, which is why in the "Welcome to the World of Guertana" when she tries to leave she feels bad and goes back to where Garry and Ib are). But I'm happy to see that there's someone else who knows what a yangire is. ^_^ |

| Hm; I've never thought of the concept of yandere being applied to platonic relationships before, but it makes sense. Though what triggered Mary's initial madness wasn't being separated from Ib, but Garry discovering her secret. However, I think one way to interpret Mary's reaction is that she was afraid her secret would cause Ib to leave her, so I understand where the yandere interpretation comes from.
There are other fan-theories on what Mary's thinking when she goes insane, though. I like Vgperson's hypothesis: Mary went insane because she didn't want to hear that she was a painting. I don't agree with it entirely, but I think it's an interesting idea. |

| Yeah, at first she went crazy because Garry found out her secret (and Garry could have totally avoided if he hadn't read out loud, silly fellow), but it probably didn't help that Mary feared that this would end up making her lose her only friend Ib. And I really like Vgperson's theory, it makes a lot of sense to me considering how much its been shown that Mary just wants to be a human girl. Of course, I don't really agree with her bit about how Mary doesn't realize she's a painting, but everything else is pretty solid. |
