I like these discussion boards for the new mangas as they come out, but I haven't seen one for volume 6!

This is my favorite arc. I'm a little confused about Haruka though. I know that the girls all think she's a boy in the beginning, but even Michiru says on page 24, "I better pick him up soon." Which of course makes no sense at all. Did I read that wrong? Anyways, when I first read that I was PISSED because I thought it meant that Kodansha was going to do one of their infamous gender swaps and pretend Haruka was a girl. But, thank goodness that isn't the case

I thought Michiru referred to Haruka as a 'him' at that point because that was the gender Haruka was choosing at the moment. Just being respectful towards whatever Haruka chose to be that day.

I agree with Sailor Uranus. And actually, Michiru says 'kare' in the original Japanese panel. Japanese has the word 'kare' - he and 'kanojo' - she. They don't use these much, since almost always they refer to each other with their names ^^.

And I think I've seen 'kare' when speaking of a woman (I'm not sure if I remember correct but it's still very rare)

Okay, so I was under the impression that Haruka always intends to be portrayed as a female and understands that some may mistake that. So does she sometimes intend to be portrayed as a male?

I think Michiru called her 'kare' just because Naoko wanted the readers feel the same way as the inners before Haruka and Michiru revealed their senshi identities. Haruka has always been portrayed as a female but because she was cross-dressing, even the reporters and Mamoru thought the she was a male. So I think Naoko just wanted us feel the same way as them, since Haruka was cross-dressing and she hadn't make her real appearance yet.

Naoko herself claimed that she has always meant and portrayed Haruka as a female and that she's 100% woman. And if you've read the Materials Collection you've probably seen that Haruka is playing a male role in Takarazuka theatre and that she is a little bit masculine girl and also portrayed as a more masculine than the other senshi but never as a male. I think her powers are one reason for this, since she's the most powerful (physically) of the senshi.

I have not read the Japanese panel of this scene but I find it interesting that Michiru refers to Haruka purposefully as a male instead of choosing to be vague by using Haruka's name instead of a pronoun. I know that in the anime, the subtitles show that she says "this person" when referring to Haruka. But maybe the subbers were taking liberties. I have to listen to what Michiru actually says.

I really like Uranus's explanation though in that Michiru was being respectful of Haruka's gender choice.

So, does anyone know why it got postponed?

I guess they had some problems with the printing house since that's usually the case. I've seen some books postponed for even two months so this wasn't a surprise at all.
