- Just as Bastet and Valdis follow Xtal-Diamante and Hemera away, the ground beneath them erupts in an explosion of sand and energy as a great worm bursts out of the ground, it's tooth-filled mouth open wide towards them.
Sailor Alshain, shocked and overwhelmed by everything that had happened, had not moved fast enough. Her wide, staring eyes blinked only as the shadow of the gaping mouth closed about her, the trapped look turning frantic as she realized what was happening. The glow of yellow fire shone through the opening in the great worm's mouth for only a fraction of a second as the Senshi of the star Alshain attempted to fight back, but then the mouth closed.
Sailor Alshain of Aegle is dead. The Worm retracted back into its tunnel in the sands.

| She felt her velveteen uniform flutter as the massive creature broke through the sandy surface, rising up with a gaping mouth ready to devour. Sailor Xtal-Diamante knew that if they had moved any slower, she could have found herself (and the others with her, like the unconscious Sailor Aldrin) in danger of that enormous toothed mouth. At least she had their jelly companion safely out of the way, until she could be restored, Xtal-Diamante thought to herself, looking down at the thing that had caused such intense vibrations. And then she realized that Sailor Alshain was not among them in the skies, because her crystalline eyes saw the glow of yellow fire right as the mouth closed. And the worm retreated. Their party had been reduced by one. This could make their fight against whatever Chaotic entity awaited them here more problematic. |

| As she flew up, hand still gripping Hadley's, an awful explosive noise caused her whole body to run cold. She tightened her grasp as she watched petrified as a what she could only imagine was a giant worm surfacing like a great sea creature. She could have maybe appreciated a large animal that size, even try to commune with it, had she not been petrified in her place as she watched, helpless to do anything, as the creature swallowed Sailor Alshain whole. The whole moment felt as if the universe stopped. She could see the look on Elysande's face as the creatures mouth closed around her. Her body began to tremble when the glow of her fire faded out and the worm went back into the ground. What felt like an eternity, happened in a matter of seconds. She was gone. Elysande was dead. Nothing had truly prepared for her this moment. Nothing leading up until now compared to what just happened. Not the mud reptile attack or the corrupted tree creature knocking out and brainwashing their friends, not the blood splatters on the buildings in the village, the arrows injuring her friends or Gabriel nearly having his neck gouged out. Nothing compared to watching Elysande die. She didn't notice as her eyes hazed over with tears and her hand tightened so hard around Hadley's hand that her knuckles had turned white. The tears streamed down her face as she stared at the spot where Alshain had once been. She had no words, just tears.

| Are you CRAZY?! Ari yelled, but honestly Crysdal was so relieved that Gabriel had been caught that the shock of being criticized by someone younger than she didn't affect her right away; with a hand to her chest to press against her pounding heart, she turned back to face to the shorter girl, her emotions going everywhere once the cry registered. Crazy? ... mentally unstable...? Is that what she thought? Reflecting on what she had done so far, Crysdal didn't exactly blame her, but still it hurt to hear. She sunk a little in the sand, deciding whether to stick up for herself or let the comment stand, but, to her surprise, Ari continued with an apology instead of with further scolding. Crysdal's brows knit in confusion at the abrupt turn around, then jumped in shock - awe of her bravery? She was speechless as Ari continued; the girl's words hitting home, making her feel encouraged and grateful. You're amazing. Before she could thank her, or assure her that Crysdal thought she was brave, especially in that battle with the tree-thing, Ari was gone, running off towards Hadley and Hex and... Aldrin. Her stomach clenched, thinking about Aldrin and how little she could do for her and wondering if it was a could or would situation or a confusing mixture of both rolled up into one giant I can't that she wouldn't know how to explain to anyone. Surprise stiffened her as she was grabbed about the waist and pulled out of the sand and off the earth; she instinctively wrapped her hands around the wrists that supported her, wondering at first whether she should scream, when Hemera spoke, her mouth near Crysdal's ear. She relaxed and tried her best to not be a problem, wondering how she could have possibly mistaken anyone for Hemera, the girl's warmth unmistakable. "Thank you!" she replied, turning slightly to look back at her golden-eyed rescuer, "I'm not sure what I can do for Gabriel but --" She sucked in her breath and clutched at Hemera's arms in fear as the ground exploded beneath them, sand flying past them in all directions as something huge exploded out of the earth. In horror-filled fascination, Crysdal watched as a huge worm-like creature with a mouth filled with teeth surfaced like a spring-loaded toy and -- Her blood ran cold, panic gripping her insides as she spotted Elysande within the jaws of the reaching creature. Eyes widening, she couldn't do anything to help as Elysande realized what was going on and tried to fight back. That moment was the worst thing she had ever experienced - to watch someone - her friend - suddenly come to terms with their surroundings and attempt to fight back against the overwhelming odds anyway was enough to break her heart. The blonde choked on a sudden sob as the light of Elysande's fire flashed as the creature's jaw closed shut. For a brief moment she watched the creature, holding her breath, tears flooding her vision as she looked for any sign that Alshain's attack had done something, that it would spit her out, that she would burst through the walls of its body unharmed, but as the creature returned into its tunnel and nothing happened - no light, not explosion, no fire - reality slowly overcame hope. " ELYSANDE!" The name tore from her throat as her body started to shake, her chest heaving, wanting nothing more than to curl up and cry or wake up and find it was just a bad dream. Elysande couldn't be dead - not like that, not that quickly, and not without a fight! She was a fighter - that was her one point of pride, the one thing she was sure about, even amidst all the weird senshi business of the past year, all the political mess she had dealt with, all the questions about her identity and her place, the insecurity about her parents - she always knew what she could do, and what she could do was fight! She couldn't die like that - it wasn't fair! And yet still Crysdal sobbed, knowing that fairness and reality weren't one and the same, no matter how much she wanted them to be. Elysande had been a fighter, and she had been taken away from her without a fight. Her heart hurt, a piece of it suddenly and unmistakably gone, and she could do nothing but repeat her friend's name over again, whether because her head hadn't caught up with her heart and thought she could call her back, or that by calling her name she was somehow keeping her alive longer; regardless, the sound was airy as it escaped with her voice. " Elysande!" |

| It felt only moments after her feet left the sinking sand that the world exploded in noise. Turning in place, Hadley's eyes widened as she noticed that one of their number hadn't made it out in time - Alshain! For a moment, Hadley felt like she could go back, to help the other girl. Get her out of there. But it all happened so fast. The creature was enormous, its mouth lined in razor-sharp teeth. It loomed over the lone senshi, before lowering its mouth to consume her whole. It was over in an heart-wrenching instant. As the creature slithered back into the sands, there was nothing left. Nothing to show that, only a moment before, a girl had been standing there. Alshain... she was gone. Just like that. It had only taken a moment, but it burned in Hadley's mind, replaying over and over in slow motion. She would never forget the look on Alshain's face as she realized what was happening, the attempt at an attack that did not seem to do anything at all. A small sound escaped from her, a mixture of fearful grief and shocked sorrow, but Hadley barely noticed it. She barely even noticed Ari's vice-like grip on her hand, or the fact that she was squeezing back just as hard. She moved closer to Ari, instinctively needing to feel the warm life of her closest friend as a buffer from the cold reality. A sense of denial settled over her - surely, any moment now, Alshain would rise from the sands victorious against her would-be murderer. If not this second, then the next, definitely. But as the seconds stretched on, Hadley knew that no such storybook ending would be happening here. Alshain was gone. She was dead. The tears fell even harder as Crysdal's broken scream cut through the silence.

| Hemera was running low on magic, and she knew she’d need it for whatever was coming below them. Remembering the old woman’s gift, she prayed for magic from Dies Nox using her MP amulet. Aegle was saying something about helping Gabriel, but then the ground exploded out of nowhere. Shocked and terrified at the sight of the giant creature that emerged from it, Hemera could barely remember to keep flapping her wings, angling them further upward and hopefully out of reach of the creature. As it opened its great maw, Hemera finally saw its target. There was one among them that was still down there. And she was standing right in front of the gaping mouth with the row of razor-sharp teeth. No! Alshain! It was like watching a terrible accident; she was frozen and unable to look away. Even as every inch of her body told her to go there and help. But everything happened so fast, even faster than her mind normally worked. When the fire appeared, hope flared in her chest that Alshain was going to be okay—that she was fighting back—but both the flame and the hope were extinguished almost as soon as they appeared. Alshain disappeared into the closing mouth, and then she was gone. The worm returned beneath the sands, and everything was quiet once more, as if nothing ever happened at all. Hemera could have sworn she’d just imagined the whole thing, if not for Aegle’s heart-wrenching screams. She could only clutch the other senshi tightly as the latter continued to call out her friend’s name, unable to think or even process what had happened. In shock, the reality of what they were facing, of what could happen to all of them—to her, to her sister—had never felt more real. It was all she could do to keep floating in the air as her eyes stared at nothing—the only thing that remained where a sailor senshi used to stand. |

| Nyx felt somewhat refreshed after she used that strange potion. To her relief, it seemed to be the real deal. She was about to call out to the rest of the group to confirm that this woman could probably be trusted after all, when it all happened. The vibrations came closer and closer, and finally a giant worm-like creature sprang out of the sand below. Luckily, they had all sensed that the ground was indeed, not safe, so they were out of its path... No. Someone was still on the ground, after all. What happened? Why was she still down there? Why was no one with her? That was why she insisted everyone should always stick with a partner around here! A person could easily be caught off-guard, but it was less likely for a pair! It all happened too fast. She didn't even have enough time to process what happened and raise her hand to attempt to blast the creature. She saw a flicker of the girl's powers, and then it was gone, along with her and the worm. ...She was okay, right? All they had to do was defeat that thing and she would pop out of it unharmed, right? Aegle's cries hit a nerve. They were friends, weren't they? What... what if it was her sister in her friend's place? She could understand how she felt... In fact, no. She couldn't, actually. She could only imagine. And she prayed she would never have to feel the same. |

| Cosima was still slightly separated from the others when she heard it, the sound of something erupting from the ground below behind her. She whipped her head around to see a giant worm looming over the others further ahead and suddenly everything began to click inside her head. The vibrations and the birds bizarre retreat was all because of that. The girl stood frozen in the air as she was unsure of what to do. How could they possibly fight an enemy that could retreat underground whenever it wanted to? The worm opened its large mouth and she wasn't far enough away to not see that it was filled to the brim with sharp, jagged teeth yet there was also something else in there as well - or more like someone. A familiar glow of fire could be seen from inside its mouth as the senshi inside tried to fight back. Yet, her attempts were only in vain as the worm snapped its jaw shut before retreating back into its hole. There was an air of silence before a blood-piercing scream that could only come from someone as emotional as Aegle replaced it. ELYSANDE! Cosima could only blink stupidly at the hole the creature had left behind as Aegle's sobs filled the air. Alshain was dead. She wasn't simply knocked out like Aldrin or Sworn was. She was truly dead. Cosima clenched her jaw as she tried to accept what happened and to act like she didn't care that Alshain was dead she couldn't. She wanted to believe that Alshain was strong enough to survive somehow. That maybe she could burn it from its insides and escape. Or that they could kill the creature and cut her out somehow. She wanted to believe they could do something yet deep down she knew that it was impossible. Alshain was dead and she felt just as hopeless here as she was back on Cosima. Turning away, she struggled not to cry as she thought of only one thing: People are going to die no matter what you do. People will always die. |

| Chalybs wanted to ask Aegle about Sailor Aldrin's condition, but there wasn't time to as they lifted off the sand and into the air as a group. She kept a grip on Amarachius and noticed Xtal-Diamante carrying a still unconscious Aldrin to safety. Had she not been revived yet? Her confusion was interrupted by the appearance of a massive tunneling creature out of the sand. Her visor caught sight of one person still in its range, Sailor Alshain. The single senshi had no chance as the creature took her into its jaws. Her struggle was visible for a second before it took her down below once again. The odds of her surviving such an encounter was near 0 percent. Aegle's anguished cry confirmed Alshain's condition. Their first casualty. Chalybs wasn't sure how to react as the group began to break down around her, clearly shaken by the death. She clutched Amarachius' body slightly harder as she processed it. That could have been any one of them, easily enough. They couldn't afford to be surprised in battle ever again, lest someone else die for their mistakes. Chalybs could reset her chemical levels and cry later, but now they needed to act. She stayed silent, waiting for the other members of their group to pull themselves together. |

The great tunnel-like hole beneath them was quiet and unmoving but for the sand that rolled down into the darkness from the peaks left by the abrupt explosion outward; however, as they watched, the sand beneath them began to tremble yet again as the monster below the surface readied itself for another launching attack!
Faster than they could believe, it threw itself upward yet again, its mouth wide open in an attempt to catch and eat any others it could grab. While it missed them, any looking could see little sign of damage dealt by Alshain before she died; those with the best of vision would be able to spot a soft-yellow hued crystal shoot from its maw and escape into the skies.
The monster fell back into its hole. |

| Before some of them could even process what had happened, it jumped on them again. It seemed relatively unharmed. One of their own was gone. And now it was back for more. Casually attempting to pick them off one by one. How dare it.She would not just stand there and watch any longer. Her one hand clenched into a fist, she raised the other one towards the monster's hole. To avenge a fallen ally and to protect the rest... "Moonlight Lullaby!" she cried out, louder than usual, directing her power towards the tunnel. If she were quick enough, perhaps it would reach it. Her eyes carefully surveying the ground below, she readied herself in case it tried again. |

| The small yellow object that emerged from the creature's mouth and flew into the sky... She wondered what it could be. Sailor Xtal-Diamante felt entranced by the beauty of it. It was so small, yet so perfect. So pure. It resonated with her, filling her core with a warm hum, as it passed by. How unusual! Xtal-Diamante had never seen anything like it. Did it come from the worm? Was this something that these creatures made, somehow? If so, what beautiful craftsmanship~! Despite her admiration of the crystal, she could not think that the worm was on their side, given that it had devoured Sailor Alshain. When Sailor Nyx moved to attack it, Xtal-Diamante glanced over at her active and warm sister. The two had fought well before. Perhaps she could help them now. Her eyes flashed twice in response. - Attack:

| Hadley wasn't sure how much time had passed - her main attention focused on staying near Ari and trying to stop her own tears. She had trouble dealing with the idea of having to attack and kill the creatures that came after the group, but that was nothing compared with trying to deal with knowing that a comrade - a potential friend, a living girl who had been here just moments ago - was gone. Forever. Her breath hitched, and she squeezed even more tightly to Ari's hand - she could barely feel the tips of her fingers now, but she didn't mind. It gave her something else to focus on. But something else caught her attention. The vibrations in the sand were back. Just a moment after, the worm creature burst from a hole, throwing grains of sand everywhere. It's great mouth attempted to catch a new prey - but missed and began to go back into its hiding place again. Heart racing, Hadley didn't even know what to do - stuck between fear and grief, like a blanket covering all thought processes - until she heard the call of an attack coming from the group, and she felt like she should perhaps do the same. It was only logical, it was clearly an enemy, and yet... A part of her hesitated - despite knowing that this creature was the reason that Alshain was no longer here, Hadley felt no kind of need for vengeance or retribution. Killing another life didn't bring back the one already lost. But to stop this creature from taking another... Hadley looked to Ari, and her determination became stronger, pushing away other thoughts. Of course. She had to protect Ari. She had to protect all of them. She wished, not for the first time, that she had some way of using her vines to hold the creature in place. Keeping it from going in and out of the sand would be a great asset right now. As it was, there was only one action left to her. Using her free hand, Hadley aimed her attack towards the retreating worm-like creature. "Verdant Spikes!" |

| She was snapped out of the shocked trance when the ground began to tremble once more. And then, all of a sudden, the monster reappeared. She swallowed her scream at the speed with which it moved, half expecting another one of them to be swallowed whole. By some miracle, it didn’t get anyone, but she could not let this continue to happen. At this rate, they would all be devoured one by one, helpless and powerless. As the creature dove back into the ground, Hemera held Aegle tighter with one hand as she raised her other arm toward the retreating back of the worm. “ Sunburst Rhapsody!” More than anything else, she wanted to see it burn. For Alshain. |

She had been remembering flashes of her - when they had first met, the first time she shared her home situation, their first battle together, the first time she had seen Elysande cry - but the tightening of Hemera's arm around her was enough to make her stop and think about what was happening, despite not wanting to do anything but mourn her friend. She followed the line of Hemera's arm, her eyes widening as she caught the worm going back into its hole - it had come out again?! Panicking, she whipped her head around, needing eyes on everyone - Nyx, Cosima, Sam and Gabriel, Hex and Aldrin, Bastet and Valdis - that was all of them, now, right?! No one else had been eaten?! Breathing quickly, she looked down again at the great tunnel created by the monstrous thing and saw the sand still shaking. It wasn't going to give up. " We can't fight it yet!" she yelled, loud enough for all of them to hear, her tone barely hiding the desperate panic that fueled her words, " We aren't ready for this!" She probably sounded like a coward, but screw it! She can't fly, which means she's holding Hemera back. Amarachius and Aldrin were out and so were doing the same for the people holding them. It ate Alshain, and if they hung around close enough to attack it, there was nothing stopping it from eating them, too. " We need more information!" |

| Also she wanted to do was curl up, clinging to Hadley and cry. She was trying her hardest to hold back sobs but another burst of the creature made her quickly force the knot in her throat back down. Even with the upset of losing a friend, others fought back, even Hadley. She wiped the tears from her face and losed her grip on Hadley's hand, hesitant to let go of the comfort completely. Now wasn't the time to cry, but...was now the time to fight? With two others knocked out and several injured, they seemed to be at a disadvantage against a creature that could swim through the sands and strike whenever. It didn't help that the only thing she could do to cause damage would be to shapeshift and...that didn't seem like a good idea right now either. Crysdal and her must have been on the same wavelength as she began shouting at the team that they couldn't fight this right now. "She's right! We need time to recuperate!" and mourn Elysande, she thought to herself. She knew running from this fight would seem cowardly to some of the others but in order to avenge Elysande's death, they need to be at their best and right now...they were simply not there. |

Sailor Xtal-Diamante mulled over the suggestion. Their last attempt to stop at a town had resulted in no advances.
While another town would be a good idea for them to get rest, was there even one close enough? The closest they knew of was the one where everyone was dead. "But where is another town? The last one everyone was..." she trailed off.(edited)
Hadley frowned, Ari's words calling up bad memories on top of the saddened panic that attempted to suffocate her. Her attack had completely missed the enemy, they were missing so many of their allies and Alshain ...
She had nothing to add to the conversation, but she knew she'd followed Ari and Crysdal where ever they decided was best.
Chalybs lowered her weapon as the monster retreated into the sand dunes, though it could lunge at them again at any time. Retreating seemed like the most intelligent option, if only to recover, but information n the sand worm would also be helpful. "I am capable of scanning the area for possible life signs," she said, sounding as flat as ever. Her free hand found the MP amulet attached to her suit, and she willed it to activate. "Will that assist in finding a town?"

Her attack had hit, but it seemed to have a strange effect on the worm. And then it immediately disappeared back under the surface. Hemera's heart was beating quickly as she waited for it to resurface, and then Aegle suggested they retreat and regroup. She knew that was true; they couldn't fight like this, with a few people down.
The others began discussing going to find another town, even if the last time they didn't manage to find anyone. Well, maybe there were others. Surely not everyone was... in hiding. She held Aegle with both arms again, securely, and awaited a strategy.
Nyx inspected the group around her. They already lost someone to this... thing. Two more were knocked out. And many of them were exhausted as it were; she could feel that she could not rely to her magic for much longer, and close-combat with that creature did not seem like a good idea.
She would much rather finish things off right now, but that would more than likely be a suicide mission at this point. "We need to recover - that much is for sure. But we can't waste too much time either. This thing might be growing more powerful, corrupting more of the planet by the moment."
Her attention directed to Sam. "That would be a good idea. Either way, it would help to make sure we are not being ambushed from another direction."(edited)
"What if we run into the bird creatures again? They retreated as soon as that...thing showed up."" She didn't think they could afford to fight the bird things again, not in their condition.(edited)
She recalled the weird behavior of the enemies they were fighting earlier as Bastet mentioned it. "They did... Certainly not because they were afraid of us; not even being blinded and burned seemed to cause them to hesitate. They probably know something about it, but the way we are now..." she drifted off, looking at Gabriel and Aldrin.
Talk of the enemies they'd fought earlier made Hemera look to the horizon; she could still see a couple of them that had survived getting smaller and smaller in the distance. Then Nyx mentioned that they might know something... They certainly looked afraid of the worm. That meant they knew about it. "I could go after them to get some information, maybe," she suggested. "They'd probably know more about the worm than some random villagers that may or may not even be around..."
The mention of the bird creatures caused goosebumps to prickle at her skin. Those creatures had looked so pretty from far away, but they had been deadly. And so quick. It felt that the only reason she had been able to hit any of them at all was because the others had hindered them. "Would they even want to talk to us? They might just attack us again."
And they could not afford another attack like that.
With Nyx's agreement, Chalybs activated her Energy Scanner and slowly spun in a 360 degree circle, checking around the group's location. The bird creatures had fled in the wake of the larger monster, so she doubted they'd return so quickly if they were truly afraid. "Chasing after the birds would be inadvisable. Even wounded, they are more agile than us."
Sailor Xtal-Diamante tried to keep her attention focused on those discussing the attackers from before, ready to follow whatever course was set.
"We took care of the faster ones, and I'm pretty quick myself," she replied. Hemera was actually feeling antsy with the inactivity. They were sitting ducks here, and if the worm reappeared and ate another one of them... Alshain... she didn't want to think about it. She was trying very hard not to think about it, but it only made her feel more impulsive about doing things rather than feeling or thinking them.(edited)
That was just great. After Gabriel and Sam, her sister joined the reckless solo-investigation train. "No one is going anywhere alone", she stated calmly, not quite willing to scold her in front of the rest of the group.
Ari seemed doubtful about it but offered a suggetion in reply to Hadley's concern. "There's a small chance that I would be able to communicate with them but...I haven't been too successful since this whole thing began..."
Crysdal followed, looking to each new speaker, trying to be as careful as possible not to jostle too much in Hemera's arms; she liked where things were going - they were going to retreat. They'd find a town and talk to people there and she'd figure out how to deal with the evil creature and find a way to wake Gabriel and Aldrin up and - and what if they did run into the bird creatures again? What if they were ambushed before they found a town? ...They could survive, right?
Their points about what their flying enemies might know were valid; she felt Hemera shift behind her, looking off in the direction the remaining pair had fled. She stilled, considering. She had wanted to talk with them at first. They had shown no signs of understanding her, but then if they were trying to kill her why would they bother with communication?
- Code:

Energy Scanner detects one large being beneath them; several other creatures were heading their way to join it. Beyond a heat signature from the town they had originally landed in, there was a pinprick of data to the south that denoted a potential outpost, and then there were the two enemies fleeing eastward.
Sailor Xtal-Diamante shifted Sailor Aldrin's weight as she waited, crystal eyes fixed on the bird-creatures slowly disappearing in the distance.
Crysdal looked back at Hemera, her concerned expression all but begging her to do no such thing; she was quick and she was good at what she did, but two on one were never good odds for the one, and if she couldn't fly after to heal her - well, she was glad that Nyx said something before she had to try to. Ari's suggestion alleviated some concern, too; if they didn't speak, maybe Ari could communicate with them in other ways.
She didn't exactly like where this was going, but if the Sam's scanner's didn't turn up anything...
Chalybs didn't outwardly react to what she was seeing, but took notice of everything within her field of scanning before sharing it. "...The creature below us will not be alone for long. It has smaller reinforcements under the sand. I advise we stay off the ground until we clear them. Beyond them..." She turned to the direction indicated as south. "I am picking up on a distant signature in this direction. It is too small to identify at the moment, but it may be a life form."
Hadley only felt slightly comforted by Ari's comment. And a large part of her felt less-than-comforted. She didn't want Ari getting anywhere near those creatures if it could be helped. That would make it easier for them to attack her.
She understood that perhaps her way of speaking with the creatures would be of help. Hadley understood that kind of connection to a degree - she had a similar power, but she'd only had success with smaller creatures, frightened ones, and certainly none that were sentient.
At SAM's mentioned reinforcements, Hadley decided to speak up. "I think we should move. It doesn't matter where, but this place... it isn't safe."
Reinforcements? Panic swelled in Crysdal's chest. It didn't need reinforcements! They had barely done anything to it! "A lifeform?" she repeated to Sam, "Not a city or town or something?"
Her sister was quick to forbid her from leaving, Hemera all but pouted. If she weren't holding Aegle - who obviously wouldn't want to support this plan - she would have flown off and done it anyway, but she would never force someone into danger like that if they didn't want to, especially someone who couldn't fly. Maybe she could try to hand her off, though...?
If she attempted to throw hand over Aegle, Nyx would accept her on reflex alone, right?
Chalybs turned to face Aegle, tilting her head slightly. Her eyes were invisible beyond the bright green visor, data crawling across it. "It is very far off. It could potentially be multiple life forms clustered together. I would need to be closer to read the signal correctly." She couldn't magnify the signal to better inspect it, so they either took the lead or chose another objective. "Would that be acceptable?"
She bit her lip, staring after the bird-people. They can't split up. If they went in for a closer scan to the south, it could mean losing the bird-people entirely, but they didn't know anything about what was south. She recalled standing at the mouth of the tunnel outside the city; Sam had picked up lifesighs there, too; if they had chased after them, where would they be now? She took in a deep breath, watching the black figures recede.
"We can't split up," she finally said, "It's either take a chance that that lifesign is a town or chase those two down for answers; if we go after the town we could lose them, but if we go after them and it's unsuccessful, we could always try to find another town."
"Sooo it looks like going after the more certain thing is the better idea," she summarized carefully.

There is a rumbling from below.
Sailor Xtal-Diamante felt the rumbling echo through her core. She adjusted the jellyperson in arms yet again. Although her face remained impassive, she was thinking about what might strike out next.
Hearing the rumbling, Ari quickly nodded in agreement. "I agree! Let's get going!"
Nyx considered their options. Aegle was right; it was either this or that. The ideal scenario would be finding a town - recovering was more important than answers right now. But was there a nearby town? For all they know that life signal would lead them strolling into enemy headquarters.
In the end, Hemera's conclusion matched hers, though she suspected for reasons different than hers. She sighed. "I agree. We don't know if we're heading towards a town or towards enemy-infested territory, and if that's the case..."
"If anything, we can still handle those two I think. A possible army, not so much."
Chalybs turned her visor off. "Then we should pursue the bird creatures first." It made the most sense, and she could find the life signature presumably later if it went awry. "Staying mobile is our best defense." She shifted Amarachius to lay over one of her shoulders and began moving in the direction of the retreating enemies.
Aegle nodded and adjusted her hold on Hemera, wishing there were an easier way to fly.
Hearing the other's arguments towards the idea helped to make up Hadley's mind, and so she nodded as well. She felt a little hesitant about it - but the most important thing was that they all stuck together.
She was glad they agreed; she only wished they hadn't taken their sweet time until they reached the same conclusion anyway. Surprise, sometimes she made good decisions too, impulsive as they might be. (Probably.) With everyone in agreement, Hemera flapped her wings and headed for the two bird-creatures flying away from them, reinvigorated by this new objective and the desire to get away from the worm's nest.
That was enough agreements, and with the rumbling she began to hear, she did not consider it wise to linger any longer. "It looks like we have a verdict. Let's go, it's dangerous to remain here any longer", she stated and began flying towards the winged creatures' direction.(edited)
Xtal-Diamante immediately followed along.
- Code:

And so they flew, following in the wake of their two prior-attackers, but to what end?
Crysdal held on tight, not too fond of watching the dunes pass so far below, the speed of Hemera's flight completely different from her own. She glanced up, looking forward towards teh duo ahead of them, and asked, hoping their flight and being so far behind would drown her voice in the wind that they would not hear, "What's the plan? Are we going to follow them back to where they live, or capture them for questioning? If we capture them, where will we take them?" She had her preference and her own notion of what she thought could be good for them, but she wanted others' opinions in case she missed something.(edited)
As they followed the creatures, Aegle asked about the plan, and Hemera blinked. Plan, what plan? She did not come with a plan. Her plan was... burn them until they told them what they wanted to know, she supposed. But she had a feeling not everyone would be on board with that.
"Our best bet is to capture them, I think," she responded to Aegle. "We cannot take on more than those two, and if we follow them, we'll likely have to deal with more of their partners too. I'm more concerned about whether we can communicate with them at all, but since we got to this point..."
"...We do need to land eventually. Given what happened I'm not too fond of the ground anymore, but perhaps Sam could scan the area and find a safe spot for us to land?"(edited)
Thank the gods for Nyx, she thought as her sister answered with what sounded like a wise answer.
"Okay," Crysdal replied hesitantly; "Capture them. ..." She quieted, trying to think up a plan.
Ari wondered if she'd even be able to talk to them after getting captured. She failed on Ciperie with the frog people and didn't even attempt to do so with the tree beast when that should've been the first thing she tried. She looked towards Hadley in hopes for some comfort but she wasn't feeling very confident in anything, even with her friend by herside.(edited)
Hadley kept close to Ari, trying not to bump into the other girl too much with her unstable flying. Her mind was strangely blank, unable to think too much about their current situation. She couldn't feel much at all, it seemed.
As she listened to the others begin to speak of plans, she didn't have much to say as input. She was definitely in favor of landing, but that was mostly her dislike for flying talking. Her fear of the great worm far outweighed that thought.
She wished she could use her vines, their help would make capturing an enemy so much easier. As it was, her own powers were quite useless at the moment.
It took longer than usual for Chalybs to identify that "Sam" meant her, but she activated her scanner once again anyway (1 MP). There had to be some section of desert that was safe enough to rest on. They couldn't carry their comrades around forever and expect to fight at the same time.(edited) - Code:
-
Chalybs Energy Scanner: Behind them were the worms, there was the heat source of the burning town below and to the north, the birds above them, and a small clump of lifesigns far below them.
Sailor Xtal-Diamante mostly wrote herself out of the "capture" plan, as her arms were currently occupied with another member of their party. She couldn't imagine wrestling one of the bird-things out of the sky while still holding Aldrin, after all. Unless it could be done if she shifted the jellied sailor soldier to her shoulder as Sailor Chalybs had done with Amarachius Sworn? Hmmm, potentially...
She kept hitting a wall in her thinking; with only a small discomfort for admitting failure, she asked aloud, "How will we get them to land?" After speaking she shook her head, rephrasing, "To the ground? If we incapacitate them they'll fall - I don't know about getting close enough to support them if they're not incapacitated, though, and I don't see how we can force them to land of their own accord."
"There don't appear to be worms directly beneath us," Chalybs said, answering Nyx's concerns. "Though they may exist deeper than I can identify. This seems like a safe area, however."
"Maybe we can target their wings so they'd be forced to land?" she suggested.
"But if something goes wrong and both their wings are completely unusable..."
Ari listened in on the discussion, wondering what they could do. She thought back to their past battles. Hadn't there been a time when she had accidently trapped an enemy in her shield? Is that the shield worked? Maybe she could trapthem in her shield?
"Um...I might be able to trap them in my energy barrier, i think? I'm not sure if that's how it works exactly...but that did happen back on Ciperie so maybe..." she fumbled about with her words as tried to provide the group with her idea.
Hadley shook her head, instantly disliking this plan. She remembered that fight on Cipriere, how that creature had latched onto Ari's leg. The blood. No, she couldn't lose Ari. She recognized that, in a way, it was perhaps their only workable option right now. But she did not want Ari to be in the line of fire for any sort of retaliation.
She stopped herself from trying to convince Ari against the idea outright, trying to keep a level head about it. "I'll be in the barrier with you," Hadley said as compromise. She wasn't going to leave Ari to do this on her own. "You shouldn't be in there by yourself with two enemies. Even with your ability to possibly talk to them."
"...If you think you can do that. It does sound dangerous though. I could possibly attempt blinding them to prevent them from efficiently fighting back, but even so..."
"I'd be willing to be inside too, if someone else can hold Aegle," she volunteered.
Ari gave Hadley a grateful look, thankful that she would stick by her side and everyone else too. "It would be too dangerous for you all too! I don't want anyone else to get hurt, besides I can just shapeshift and pin them down once we get them grounded." She nodded at Nyx, "Blinding would be helpful though..."
"If this is a safe area, maybe we should do this on the ground. If you could ground them that would make it easier for everyone, I think."
Ari nodded in agreement., "And I don't think once I shift I can still fly." She paused for a moment, taking in a deep breath, readying herself for this, "I am ready if everyone else is."
She didn't like it at all. She didn't like that so many were willing to go through with it, either. Hadley, Ari, Hemera -- "It slit Gabriel's neck open with its beak." she all but blurted out, a hint of desperation in her tone, "They were going to tear his wings off - it wrapped around him like a spider around its prey, and our best plan is to trap people in a little bubble with two of them?!"
She wanted to offer another suggestion, an alternative plan, but she still hadn't figured another way to capture and question them, but this couldn't be the only way!(edited)
Ari felt herself trembling at the mention of the battle and she clenched up her fists, voice shaking, "I'm aware of that! We were at a disadvantage then and there were more! What are we supposed to do then? If you have any ideas, please I'm all ears."
Hadley shuddered at Crysdal's words. She looked to the fallen Gabriel, and then to Ari. She shivered again, imagining her friend in a similar state. She didn't have a different plan to suggest - her mind was simply a mix of sadness and worry, and a sense of hopelessness.(edited)
"If you are concerned about Sailor Bastet's safety, may I accompany her?" Chalybs asked. "I can keep them apart from her within the shield."
"And have your wings - ..." steam slowly left Crysdal's voice as she looked to Sam, realizing that the creatures would have to do a lot of damage to do anything to her with that metal suit... but it was still possible, wasn't it? "This isn't -"she stammered, "There has to be another way."
"I could always set them on fire again. That seemed to immobilize them last time... And it would probably help with the talking... We might have to work fast though."
"Blinding and burning worked well enough last time, perhaps it is our best shot again," she concurred.
Sailor Xtal-Diamante remained silent, having no opinion on the suggested plan and its modifications. Perhaps there would be a point for her to lend her abilities, but that would not be this current time. |

| With the plan finally set, Hemera flew low, carefully dropping Aegle on the ground in order to free her hands. “We’ll be right back,” she said with a smile, then flew back up towards the flying bird creatures, focused her sight on one of them, and summoned forth her Sparks Ablaze to set him on fire. She looked over at Nyx and nodded, knowing that she’d target the other one, and together, once again they would deal with these creatures effectively. |

| This was it then. Nyx was fully prepared for the plan to terribly backfire somehow, but there was little more they could do right now. If they came all the way here, all that was left was to follow through. She could only hope that this whole attempt was not meaningless in the first place - there was still the chance that those creatures would still refuse to give them answers, if they can even communicate with them at all. Nyx nodded back at her sister and used Darkness Focus on the other archer attempting to blind him, hoping they would be successful, but preparing herself if they attempted to strike back. If it worked, the others would have to take it from here, she supposed. |

| They had all decided, despite Crysdal's objections. She understood them, she felt the same way as well, but hearing them only made doing this even more terrifying. However, they had to get information. This was the only way they could. Ari did her best to hide any physical fear showing, only being slightly comforted by being accompanied with the others. Hemera and Nyx both did their part of the plan, now it was her turn. She flew in as fast as her wings could take her towards the bird men. "Bastet Energy Barrier!" The shield was up and she was in there with the two creatures. Now they just had to get them grounded. As their plan unfolded, Ari concentrated on sending out continuous waves of calm to the creatures. Hoping to instill a sense that if they cooperated, they would not be further harmed If they could calm them and get them to cooperate, it would make this a whole lot easier. |

| Before she realized it, the plan was set into motion. With a start, Hadley tried to soar over with Ari - her desire still strong in wanting to keep the other girl from harm, to help her in this dangerous act. But she reacted too late - Ari was already there, casting her spell. For a moment, Hadley wanted to simply join her friend regardless. But this was a tricky thing, and she could see the concentration on Ari's face. If Hadley joined her now, she might ruin that concentration. Her added presence might even make things harder as the enemies had another being to focus on. Frustrated, Hadley moved as close as she dared, but remained outside of the barrier's shell. She'd be ready to help out if anything went wrong, but, for the moment, doing nothing felt the most useful. |

| She could've been sick with stress, but as Hemera dove low and dropped her off, she couldn't have gotten another word in even if she had something to add. Instead she watched the dreadful scene, her stomach twisting as Hemera set another of the creatures on fire and Nyx - Nyx's attack had missed! She lurched forward, her eyes glued as Bastet flew in, the plan going off too quickly for her to stop or reevaluate, and trapped herself within a barrier with the pair - one incapacitated, the other decidedly not. "Ari!" she screamed, rushing forward, then back, unable to get closer. She couldn't risk another ranged heal - she could only wait and hope things would somehow turn out okay, but with what had happened there so far, hope seemed meaningless.Weighted Die Activated- Nyx's darkness engulfed the other. Her brows tightened in a worry that was only slightly lessened by the success of the strategy as Bastet moved in to lock them into the shield with her. Acid churned in her stomach and she lurched forward, watching with bated breath as the blinded foe reached out to strike at her.

| The flames swirled around one of the bird creatures and Ari stared, her heart aching. This was horrible. However, she didn't have much time to dwell on it as the other one, blinded by Nyx's attack, lashed out wildly at her. Attempting to dodge, Ari summoned her quarterstaff to try and block the attack if she could not move away in time. She had to make her descent now and quick. Ari continued instilling the emotions of calm and peace on the creatures. She attempted to speak to it as she started to descend, concentrating hard with her druid abilities."I don't want to hurt you! I'm sorry we attacked! We just want to talk. I can help your friend. Please just cooperate with me" she begged the panicked creature, hoping her powers would work on these beings. |

| Sailor Chalybs dropped in altitude and landed beside Sailor Aegle, her wings disappearing. She did not see much use for herself in this interrogation plan, so she would remain on standby and keep watch until they needed her assistance again. Chalybs activated her Energy Scanner, wanting to keep tabs on the sand-worms that could catch up with them simultaneously. Right now, their group had a number advantage, but that may not last long if they weren't careful. "...There is no point in worrying further," she said, her eyes on the barrier even as she spoke to Crysdal. "We will either succeed or not. Contemplating potential situations during a plan's execution will not assist you." It sounded almost callous, but that was the best sense of comfort Chalybs could instill in her current state. |

| Sailor Xtal-Diamante watched the group and their actions, and ultimately followed Sailor Aegle. If something attacked from this distance, she could try to protect the grounded healer with physical combat. The abilities that resonated from her core could be used at enough of a distance that she hoped this would not impede her. Once again, she shifted the weight of Sailor Aldrin but did not quite land on the surface beside Sailor Aegle, concerned that her additional vibrations would summon something to them. She could offer nothing for the blonde's evident distress, although she could somewhat feel it as a series of unsettling reverberations passing through her own crystal core. The clear eyes then looked up, towards Bastet, trying to calm the two foes within her barrier. Perhaps Xtal-Diamante could help there... Her eyes glowed with bright light as she focused on the girl above. - Attack:

| Her sister's aim was true, and Nyx's attack followed - they were close enough and those creatures were not yet aware of their presence, so it should be alright. But as the first of them was set on fire by her sister's magic, the other one managed to dodge her beams of darkness just in time. And before her mind could begin processing a plan B, Bastet went straight towards the enemies and trapped herself in an energy barrier with them. One of them being perfectly able to retaliate and probably quite angry. "No!" she screamed, her hands covering her mouth. "It-- it's not done! It's not safe!" Could she even undo her barrier? This-- this was not right! Not now! she thought to herself. I can't miss! Not now!On that moment, she felt something in her pocket. As she looked, she saw a small square object come out of the pouch that old woman had given her, seemingly on its own accord, and unceremoniously plop to the sand below. It was blurry but for a second, then she found herself with her hand stretched towards the winged creature again. The beams found their target, evidently confusing it. Bastet went straight towards the enemies and trapped herself in an energy barrier with them. Nyx glanced back and forth in confusion. Did she manage to use her attack again so quickly? But-- but Bastet was most decidedly not where she was supposed to be! And her power would have been deflected by the barrier anyway. But then what... Nyx just stood there in silence, allowing the rest of the team to proceed with the plan - her own work was done after all. What kind of power does that old woman actually have? |

| Sitting still in her worry, Hadley watched the proceedings. The attacks from the others in the group seemed effective, but she hoped that they wouldn't prove to be too effective. She felt a sense of sorrow for these creatures, being trapped within the barrier as they were injured and blinded. The sadness was quelled a little as she saw one of the creatures swing blindly towards Ari. But Ari was doing so wonderfully. Her barrier was strong and her words were sincere. If anyone was going to be able to get through to these creatures, Hadley was certain it would be Ari. She remained close to the barrier, but keeping just outside of it. For what felt like the millionth time, Hadley wished that her vines could be used in this situation. She knew then that she would have to come up with some sort of solution for this in the future - being out of reach from any living plants messed with her both mentally and as a senshi. For now, she could just stay close and remain watchful. If Ari began to struggle, she'd be there to help - somehow. |

Don't want to hurt them?! Regretful of the attack it initiated?! Just wanted to talk?!
It hissed in response, a primal sound that still paled to the fear, confusion, and hatred in its heart for these featherless ones that had cost so many lives! It despised its lack of power! "You seek cooperation?!" it cried, reeling back away from the sound of the eerily calm voice, "You, who engaged us in our retreat? You who have set our plumage ablaze and stolen our sight? You merciless beings who would play mind games in our final moments?!" Its voice seemed to echo around itself, and its veins sung with anxiety as it backed into a solid surface that seemed not to end. "Featherless one, I am of Cawth, and I will not go quietly into death!" It reached behind its back and pulled an arrow from its casing, feeling for the band of poisons at its hip. The strike hit home and Crysdal winced; movement behind her stole her attention for a moment - just long enough to register who was there before she looked back up at the makeshift birdcage floating so far above their heads. Sam's words were devoid of emotion, much different than Crysdal had ever remembered her being, but in this state she paid the tone little attention; she listened to the words, accepted the intent, and then proceeded to act without responding to them. She hurried over, biting her lip at Gabriel's state, and asked almost breathlessly, "Do you have something sharp?!" |

| Chalybs kept her eyes on the battle, noting that Bastet had been struck but not downed. There was no need to interfere just yet. Aegle's question confused her though. "...I do not. Sharp objects are potentially hazardous to the user. All of my weapons and tools are energy based." Why did Sailor Aegle want something sharp? Did she require something to defend herself with? Chalybs adjusted her grip on Amarachius and recalled the tool she had seen him using. "Will his primitive weapon be useful?" she asked, looking at his sword. |
