World Fair 2016 [Planning] [Launch Day!]

Hello hello ^^

It's time to start planning the World Fair! This event will begin September 9th and end on the 23rd. This gives us about 12 days to plan/research, and the event will be two weeks long! This year, we're not going to just be showcasing where we live! You can still do that if you want, but we're also going to include the ability to research and showcase a different place/era. So you could represent a certain country in a certain time period, your own home country/state, or just a country in general. For example: I'd really like to focus on steampunk (since it's my favorite!) which is the Victorian Era, which was primarily when Queen Victoria was alive (1837 - 1901). You can work on this in teams of two if you wish. This way if two people want the same thing, they can just work together on it and such and there will still be plenty of 'displays' for the World Fair! This will come on a first come, first serve basis. If someone has already taken the era/country/whatever may have you, that you want, then you can either ask to be their partner or will have to pick a new one! It's the only fair way I can think to this xD

BTW How many threads do we need to establish as a minimum? And are we able to post them somewhere as we work on them? Or should we work on everything in a word document first?

(Also I have no idea how the World Fair works xD and also how many threads can we start or are we separating that in many forums like last year?)

You can have as many threads as you want for your country/era. Could have one about the general history, one for food, one for fun things to do, etc etc. I do ask that there be at leeeeeasssst three different threads, just so that people can learn from it and such! It doesn't look as fun without a few threads! You can also come up with a game to host for the thing you pick! Like jigsaw puzzles featuring places in your country or word searches with popular things from your country/era, etc etc.

You can totally make some threads in the party planning section and I will move them all to the World Fair areas once we launch the event!

@eternal: I don't think we have a lot of Canadians on the forum =o Maybe you could talk about Canada as a whole with emphasis on Quebec?

Addy did Canada last year, so I don't know if she wants to do it again I wouldn't want to take it from her.

I can work on Germany from the Time after the War, the split into east and west up until the BRD and DDR were united again in 1990. I think it is one of the most important periods for Germany and I'm sure it would be interesting for people to know more about it!

As for the planning: If we want to start at September 9th, we should really get our stuff together since we only have 5 days left. Andi told me to join in and I think we should ask other people as well. I don't know if you asked Addy already, but we could also ask Gemma, Sailor Venus, Sailor Mercury and Sailor Saturn. If nobody's interested, we could also work on other countries as well. It would take some research and stuff, but I think it's better than not having many countries to go with.

Did you PM people already Diana? If not I can do it!

I think we should extend the deadline or maybe advertise that we need more help for the event in the Cbox? Maybe people are interested but just didn't see the planning topic before it was buried by other posts. I personally didn't even see thread until at least four days after it was posted.

And Kai, I'd also PM Luna, Sailor Jupiter, and Eidolune, as they all expressed interest when Diana originally asked for opinions on this year's world fair.

Can I do a thread of Women's Art Around the World? It's not a specific country so I'm not sure this is okay/allowed?

Also, I just wanted to point out that Steampunk isn't a historical thing that actually happened but rather a created sci-fi imagining of an alternate Victorian era so are we also doing things that are not required to be historically accurate? Just curious if it's being opened up to everyone to do things like that as maybe someone would want to do something like Atlantis or something else fun/made up?

@Jupiter: Sure, that'd be fine in my opinion! For this World Fair I think it'd be fun to focus on individual aspects but still teaching the forum about things. Such as your Women's Art and such. I want this one to be much more relaxed feeling and just be fun and let people do what they want. The previous ones have focused hardcore on just showcasing where people live, which is awesome and it looks like we'll still have a bit of that!, but I feel like there's more to a World Fair than just showing people where you live. You can learn about other eras, cultures, places, sci-fiesque things!

@Eternal Knight: You can totally just do Quebec if you still want, I don't mind! But if you want to do all of Canada, that's fine too ^^

@Dark Sportsnutd: Colorado is fine! Like I mentioned to Jupiter, I want this World Fair to be more laid back and let you guys teach the forum about things you want/love ^^ Plus most of our members are from the US (I think), so I don't see a problem with you just doing one state.

Yes, the start date has been changed to the 15th, with the Fair starting on the 16th and lasting til the 23rd. This will give people more time to work on their threads.

I have two more questions. Are we doing stamps and bumpers again? And is there a specific person I could ask to make banners to head my threads or did people make their own last year?

Thanks! Do we have any templates for bumpers? And what are the rules on images? I'd assume we should use our own photos of places whenever possible, right?

I don't have a template for a bumper at the moment, but 100x100 for all bumpers.

As for images, No real rules, just try your best to be respectful. Obviously no fan art for things. If there is a problem with an image I can always help you find something else that works.

I can do Wales! If there's a minimum of 3 threads, I can do one on mythology of the place, one on the language and one on the landscape? Those things I feel are the most interesting things I know a lot about! And I can get it all written up at least by the end of tomorrow hopefully or by the end of the weekend.

ETA: If you've never worked on the World Fair before you can look at the world fair last year for inspiration. Everyone did a wonderful job. Members could only earn stamps for each location if they passed the quiz last year which people seemed to enjoy. I don't think it would hurt to do that again.
