Appearance: Hotaru has shoulder length dark purple or black hair, and straight cut bangs that cover her forehead. Her eyes are large and a deep violet color, and her skin is paler than average. She has a slender build and a somewhat frail body. She's 4 feet and 10 inches tall. During her first life on Earth, much of her body is actually cybernetic as a result of a life threatening accident in her childhood. When she is reborn again by the Silver Crystal's power, she is fully human once more.
She originally dressed in dark colors, and showed as little skin as possible with long sleeves and stockings to cover her up, along with turtleneck sweaters and coats. Her Mugen Academy Uniform was a red long sleeved shirt and a plaid green skirt with black leggings and black shoes.
When she was reborn and raised a second time, her wardrobe became bolder with her new-found confidence, shifting to brighter colors and less fabric, but she still gravitates to purple as a favorite.

Personality: Hotaru is most often seen as quiet and pensive, and even gloomy at times. She is highly intelligent for her age, but she doesn't act superior or prideful because of it. Her silence is sometimes mistaken as being snobbish or creepy by other children though, and she's not very assertive under most circumstances. When her personality is affected by Mistress 9's possession of her, she becomes cruel and can even hurt people without recalling it later. She had a pessimistic view of life because of her constant illnesses and her destiny as Sailor Saturn, but she became more determined and brave after making her first friend, Chibiusa.

When around people she's comfortable with, Hotaru is kind and thoughtful, and cares for the friends and family she has greatly. She is most attached to Chibiusa, and can even become jealous when other children interrupt their time together.

She enjoys reading about world history and other advanced book subjects, and likes collecting lamps as a hobby. Hotaru also likes board and card games. She dislikes playing strenuous outdoor sports, but does enjoy watching them. She also hates drinking milk. Her dream is to become a nurse.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Hotaru can heal others by touching them, though it exhausts her. She also has the ability to create projections of things she sees in her mind, and has limited premonitions in the form of dreams.
 
History: Hotaru was originally Sailor Saturn in the Silver Millennium, but she was only woken from slumber at the very end of the era by the three Talismans. Her purpose was to destroy the Silver Millennium, purifying it of Chaos in the process.

Like the other senshi, she was given a second chance on Earth and reborn as Hotaru Tomoe, daughter of a professor. When she was younger, her family was caught in a tragic lab accident, killing her mother and badly injuring Hotaru. Professor Tomoe reconstructed her body with robotic parts, keeping Hotaru alive as a cyborg, though she was still frail and prone to sickness. He also was manipulated by Pharaoh 90 to work towards his release and conquering of the Milky Way Galaxy, and Hotaru became the unwilling host of Mistress 9, serving as his partner.

The Mugen Academy was created on top of Professor Tomoe's lab, and he begins to experiment with Daimons. Hotaru attended the school and was bullied and shunned for her oddities and behavior changes, and became withdrawn and lonely. She met Chibiusa while she was looking around Mugen Academy, and was saved by Sailor Chibimoon when a Daimon attacked. She healed a minor wound for Chibiusa, and promised to keep her crystal and identity a secret. When Chibiusa's soul is later taken as fuel for Mistress 9, Hotaru fights against it and protects both her friend and the Silver Crystal from being absorbed. She sacrifices her life as Hotaru and returns Chibiusa's soul, awakening as Sailor Saturn with the Talismans once again to destroy Pharaoh 90. Sailor Pluto seals her and Pharaoh 90 away to contain her destructive attack, but Super Sailor Moon revives Hotaru, and she is reborn as a baby. 

Afterwards, Hotaru is raised by Harkua, Michiru, and Setsuna, where she rapidly ages until she is old enough to become Sailor Saturn again. She senses the Dead Moon Circus and gives the Outer Senshi newfoud power, andleads them back to Toyko to assist the other senshi against Nehellenia. She and Chibiusa end up helping to purify the Sailor Quartet as well, as she could tell their true potential beyond their brainwashed Amazoness forms. She later awakens as Eternal Sailor Saturn.

In the Stars arc, Hotaru and the other senshi battle against Sailor Galaxia's forces. She retreats to castle Titan, but is defeated and has her Sailor Crystal stolen. She is controlled by Galaxia to attack Sailor Moon, but is defeated, and is later fully revived with the other senshi when Chaos is sealed in the Galaxy Caludron.
