Hey guys, this is the OCC thread for an idea of mine, which may line up really nicely with September’s science month if we can get it started. Most of the plot ideas below are really suggestions. I welcome any and all brainstorming ideas and am willing to change things if another idea makes a lot more sense.



This will be a Sailor Moon adventure story that takes place in an alternate Steampunk universe. I’ll post some references below to give you an idea what steampunk is about for those of you that might not be familiar.


Overarching Plot Summary:
Communities in this Victorian world are being threatened by something that they can only call the “Fading”. Whole communities have been swallowed up, leaving straggling migrant refugees. Her royal majesty’s airship fleet is suffering losses from vanished ships.  No one knows what is causing things and people to simply disappear right in front of witnesses’ eyes. Only a few town remain as yet unaffected but it is spreading.

When young Grace Katherine Hart's father, the fleet admiral goes missing, her and her team of friends (OCs from a story I have been writing) stumble upon an old poem tucked into a book that speaks of five legendary warriors who will break the curse with the power of an invaluable gemstone called the imperium silver crystal.

They sort of misread the poem, and believe they have to find five women who they can turn into legendary warriors through the use of science and technology. So they put an ad in the paper promising adventure and fame, and get to inventing. Lucky for them, and unbeknownst to them, the women who do answer the ad in fact are the planetary senshi! They do not know of their senshi identities so at first they are equipped with invented weapons and such that just coincidentally are sort of in line with their powers. But as things progress they begin to awaken for real. Their mission is to figure out how to find and awaken the crystal as well as discover the source of the "fading" and confront the one responsible.

Simultaneously the prince of Earth (and possibly the shittennou) are also living in this time ignorant of who they are. He is the son of a wealthy earl and has been knighted for previous service by the queen. Queen Victoria has come upon the same legend and seeks to find the imperium crystal as well to save her people. She sends him out on a mission to find and retrieve it. When he meets the incarnation of Serenity and falls in love, he will wrestle with the fact that his mission goes against theirs (only one party can have the crystal) and will wrestle with himself between love and duty, only to find out that his love is actually the key to both of their missions. - (This piece of the story is currently pending as we do not yet have a Tuxedo Mask. Anyone interested, please let me know!)

The source of the phenomena, a Mr. Cogs, has decided that clockwork machines make more sense, are more productive, and better than humans. He has discovered a new technique through a mix of alchemy and science where he is able to "translocate" (read: teleport) objects and people. He is kidnapping them on a massive scale to enslave them in order to have them assemble am army of mechanical clockwork men and weapons to take over the world. The airships he steals for parts, materials, and aether engines to power his operation. He will create all sorts of mechanical monstrosities to attack the remaining townships and the senshi as well as other factions will have to engage them to get to him.

On the side, there will be other forces trying to steal the crystal. Doctor Phoenix, a man at the edge of his sanity, is hell bent on securing the crystal for himself to resurrect his dying wife. And a seamstress who was turned away from her coveted job as chemist because of her gender will become a powerful enemy. Can these brave ladies secure the silver crystal, awaken their powers, and save the day before London is overrun by clockwork chaos?

Character Brainstorming for the senshi...:

So what is Steampunk?:

In this post I will put brief summaries of all of the characters for easy reference. ^^

Information so far on the characters:

Jasper Collins - An eccentric American boy who was sent to live with a wealthy (and somewhat loopy) uncle. He has a love of gadgets and is very smart, but is rather gangly and uncoordinated / clutzy. Sometimes his inventions backfire in the most inconvenient ways. He is tall and thin with well-used taped up glasses. He is in love with Grace but too shy to tell her yet. (Jasper's uncle is a wealthy bachelor and the object of many a lady's eye but he has no interest in it, only in tinkering and inventing.)

Grace Katherine Hart - Born to a socialite mother and fleet admiral father Grace is forever caught between two worlds. She is a bit of a tomboy and prefers to fly about town in her glider and hang out with her father and his men around the airships. On the other hand, her mother is determined to make a young lady out of her, constantly pressing her into frilly dresses and making her go to balls. She has a spirit of adventure and is fairly brave for a young lady.

Jack Higgins - a young paper boy, he often hangs around the pair because they do interesting things. He runs errands for them and is often pulled into their adventures.

Mr. Clockworth II - During prior adventures they discovered a mechanical automaton tin man who seemed to possess intelligence and a personality. After repairing him he acts as their butler of sorts and assistant.

Together this group calls themselves the "Clockwork Companions" ^^ They are part of a story I am writing. They're not going to really be the main event in this RP, more of a supporting role for the senshi but I thought a bit more info would be helpful.

As we spoke I would like to jump in as a helper/minion for the main villain but I am wondering how the profiles will be done.

Good question. I was thinking relaxed profiles? Unless everyone wants to go advanced which is fine by me either way. I am guessing it should go in the otaku character forum.

Count me in for this one. And, though it pains me to admit, considering steampunk does tend to revolve around the British isles we may want to use their English dub names.
Not quite sure who I want to play though.

I would like to play kinda torn between Moon or Venus. Will the Silver Crystal come from Moon in this version or will it be a separate thing from her that she just finds along with the others?

Yay Cosmos-hime! ^^ Yeah it pains me too. The only other alternative would be to create whole new names for them...but that could become awfully confusing. We'd have to have a names chart. LOL

And so very glad to have you Sailor Mercury. You know that is an interesting question. My original thought would be that it lies within her just needing the right circumstances to emerge, maybe something like the sword in PGSM where all of the senshis' hearts have to be united. What do you guys think though?

EDIT: Actually wait! I think I have something. What if they do have to find it and outrace all the others seeking it, but she is the only one who can activate it. Otherwise it's just a pretty gem? (And wouldn't it be funny if she had it all along in her attic or something?) LOL ^^ We can brainstorm with that.

Also sorry Addy, didn't know I wasn't allowed to do that. ^^

I kinda like the idea of them as the ones who can activate it. The legend spoke of five warriors, so maybe all of them have to be present for the crystal to work, but they have to find it first (so it won't just pop once all five of them are around xD)

Personally I'm fine with either Relaxed or Advanced, but yeah, keep in mind that we will have to make Otaku profiles for these ^^

Yes! I definitely think I like this idea better and I agree, all five have to be present and maybe even awakened senshi by that point.

And yeah that was what I was thinking of. Relaxed would be a lot easier...seeing as I need to create at least two or three of my own. O-o Plus this way people who aren't as familiar with the genre don't have to make crazy long posts, but those who want to let their steampunk imaginations run wild have the option. ^^

Sounds good! I would like to officially claim Mina/Venus then. I just realized I don't have any AU/otaku profiles for her and I need it to complete my collection xD

I'm in if you'll have me! I'm a little predictable in who I like to play though lol is sailor moon still free? If not I'll take sailor Mars  this sounds like such a fun idea!

There are some exceptions however, like when you start an RP and you have the first post as the info post then make your first in character post is fine, or if there are more than 12ish hours between the posts etc. We generally go with the rule in the OOC area if you can edit your previous post, do so, unless the topic is like completely different xD

I was hoping you might jump in. Absolutely. She is all yours. ^^ We were debating earlier in this thread as to where they can find the silver crystal so feel free to jump in with suggestions.

So guys, you don't necessarily need to use my origin or technology ideas for the senshi if you want to go a different way. We can brainstorm it out in this thread. So feel free to let your imagination run. Steampunk is great for that.


EDIT: Just put up the relaxed bio for our main villain. What do you all think? Lookie ^^ (I have never played such a neurotic individual. This should be fun...and good writing practice for me. LOL )

Also - I am working on the storyline submission form as well. Hopefully I can get that submitted sometime this weekend, then finish a few more bios and we are golden.

I really like the idea of having to outrace everyone to get the crystal and that it can only be activated when all five senshi are there. And I have to admit that it would be humorous if they had the crystal all along but they didn't realize what it was lol There are so many directions that we can take with this. I'll ponder it a little further and see if i can chime in with anything useful. 

Also I read the profile for Mr. Cogs and I can't wait to see him in action. He sounds like such a fun character to play!

Will we need to create crossover profiles for this?

I created mine as just Otaku Relaxed and it as approved. It's not exactly a cross over, more like Sailor moon AU I think. ^^

From what I can tell this is taking place in another world right? If so, then it needs to have a otaku profile as too many things about the girls will be changing.

I've tried to resist joining another roleplay but after reviewing profiles and reading this OOC I just have to xD I would like to claim Ami, if that's okay! I was thinking about naming her Amelia, and her nickname be Amy.

I think rei's going to be Rachael, or Rae for short.

EDIT: I'm in the process of working on my profile. Has anyone finished their senshi's yet? I'd like to look at someone else's if I can.

Hi! I’m flattered and would LOVE to have you as Ami. We totally have an awesome team already and it hasn’t even been a week since I put up the thread. And I love that name by the way.

Woot! That’s excellent. ^^ Glad to have you. And I think that is all the senshi now. We just need Mamo—chan. ^^ I’ll put up a character wanted ad when I get a second.


UPDATE: I know, I STILL have to fill out my story submission. I was half way done…and my PC ate it when I vacuumed and the fuse blew. So I need to re-do it ASAP. ^^ And I owe 2 more Otaku profiles on my end for Grace and Jasper. (Just keeping myself accountable by noting it here. )

Regarding the other senshi transformations, how do you guys seeing this happen?

1. Initially I was thinking that being placed in a life or death situation that they can’t get out of with their steampunk tech alone would trigger it (maybe it breaks, or they’re out-manned?) and they would transform on their own in a super angsty uber-suspenseful moment.
2. But then I was also toying with whether or not they need a henshin device possibly with a planetary gem or some alchemical device. But looking for more planetary things could make this super complicated I think.
3. Or, their powers coould somply emerge in their current forms, so let's say Mars finds she can suddenly do more with fire than just shoot it frmo flamethrowers etc... Perhaps they don't need to henshin per

What about some healthy combination of the first two? They each find some odd gem and just put it into an alchemy device and nothing seems to change, then suddenly in a moment of crisis BAM-SAILOR SENSHI!

And in their senshi forms, what if their weapons were like what you proposed in #3, like mars has a flamethrower or something like that. Their senshi outfits could be steam-punk theme'd as well, if you want.

You can do whatever you want, it's your RP, I'm just throwing ideas out there.

what if their outfits were their prototype outfits? They're kinda steampunk-ish.

I like idea 1 or 3. Or a combo of it. The power only manifests when they absolutely need it (maybe each girl gets to have their own awakening moment, so let's not have it happen all at once?), but it just boosts their devices. Though it'd be cool to see them wielding their elements with bare hands too

I agree that it would be cool to have them using the elements with their bare hands. How about after their first few "transformations" or when they become "used" to their powers they no longer need their devices? They realize all of a sudden that they don't need the device to channel their powers - they simply emerge from them? Just a thought on the fly  

FYI - totally starting to build my profile and I'll probably keep Usagi's name as Serena unless I find something cooler


EDIT: And I was thinking if ever we need inspiration for their Senshi outfits we can always take a look at No Flutter's artwork. She's an amazing artist that likes to dabble in steampunk/burlesque inspired outfits. She's even done the Senshi. You can take a look here.

I was actually looking through deviantart for the same thing! I think they should transform but retain their steampunk style. I really like the one you linked above, as well as this one.

Also, Mina will totally be short for Wilhelmina xD

Those are super nice! Maybe we could do a combination of both? I know I've always wanted to do something with the No Flutter style, so maybe in my profile i could link that pic.

PS. I'm going to call Serena: Serenity Hilderbrandt-Thomson and her nickname will be Serena. It took me forever to find some sort of last name haha And I'm almost finished my profile.... I hope it's ok!!

I was thinking about this on the long bus ride home. I came to a similar conclusion because wow - I LOVE these steampunk senshi looks I am seeing so far in the otaku profiles.

So I was thinking we could combine two ideas. I love giving each senshi a transformation moment. I've always loved those dramatic scenes. ^^

And..I believe I have thought of a thing too! ^^

So they transform, and can enhance / funnel their senshi powers through the equipment...but once the silver crystal is activated....then they can wield it with bare hands without equipment because they get a power boost from the crystal which also helps them get more in touch with their element. Seems to make the most story-logical sense to me. What do you guys think? ^^

Jasper: "....." *wide eyed*

I am so loving these profiles so far. You guys are awesome! Sportsnutd has an interesting villain coming out soon as well.

P.S. Even though they're not quite on the same level, Grace is totally going to feel Serenity's angst about mothers attempting to marry them off.
