Advanced Character Profile
Character Name: Tenoh Haruka (天王 はるか)
Haruka's surname, 天王, contains the kanji for "sky/heaven" and "king/ruler". These are the first two kanji used for the planet Uranus, 天王星 (tennousei: "sky/heaven" "king/ruler" "star"), signifying her affiliation with the planet. Haruka's first name is somewhat ambiguous in gender, being appropriate and relatively common for either a male or female.
In her past life she was known as Princess Uranus.
Gender: Female
Age and Date of Birth: 16 at the beginning of the series and 18 by the end of it--in Crystal Tokyo she has an incredibly long life but physically appears to be roughly 23; January 27 (Aquarius)
Used Canons: This profile incorporates information from the manga and 90s anime.
Appearance: Haruka has an elegance about her that defies simple traits of masculine or feminine. She is strikingly handsome and also extremely beautiful. She stands fairly tall, roughly 175cm (5'9"), with a lean yet muscular build. Her posture and bearing sometimes make her seem taller. Her skin is a healthy peach with cooler undertones. Her eyes are piercing navy blue (sometimes with a greenish tint) with long lashes and a tapered almond shape. They give her an impression of alertness and judgment. She never shies away from direct eye contact, and some people feel uncomfortable under her fixing gaze.
Her sandy blonde hair is cut very short, fuller in the front and more closely tapered at the back of her head. It is a haircut that looks equally at ease on a stylish man or a chic woman. Her hair is very straight and the individual strands somewhat thin. It is prone to catching in the breeze. Her hair naturally parts slightly to the left.
Regardless of her attire, Haruka looks dashing at all times. She has a figure like a runway model, and nearly everything looks good on her. She can wear men's clothing with lipstick and jewelry and turn heads everywhere she goes.
When posing as a student of Infinity Academy, Haruka wears both the male and female uniforms with frequency. In the green plaid pants and dark maroon jacket of the boys' uniform, she looks like a suave upperclassman. When she wears the skirt and blouse of the girls' uniform, she appears beautiful and stately, her angular features and short haircut contrasting pleasantly with the feminine attire. When not wearing clothing for school, Haruka is equally likely to be seen in pants or a skirt. Her clothing always looks fairly expensive and trendy. In the 90s anime, Haruka wears masculine clothing much more frequently than female clothing--including exclusively wearing the boys' Infinity Academy school uniform. In the manga, she wears gold hoop earrings in each ear. In the 90s anime, she wears a single gold hoop earring in her left ear.
Personality: Haruka always dreamed of becoming the wind, and that is how others would describe her. There is something both swift and ethereal about her, as thought she cannot quite be caught and held. Her personality is outwardly gregarious and open, but there is a layer that keeps her true self from being exposed. People can socialize with her without knowing or understanding her. There is always an element of her being that seems aloof and withdrawn, as her mind soars in the sky regardless of the body on the ground. There are very few people that Haruka trusts enough to fully relax and reveal herself to. For most, she maintains the veneer of an accomplished driver and athlete, a top student, and a handsome personage without revealing details of the woman at the core.
When it comes to her mission, she is serious and driven. Haruka understands the weight and importance of protecting the universe. Her memories of doing so as Sailor Uranus for the Silver Millennium reinforce her beliefs. She believes that the world is a hard place where sacrifices must be made and some people will always suffer. This puts her at direct opposition with most of the Sailor Team, who feel that her view of humanity is too harsh and uncaring. Haruka thinks they are being sentimental to a fault and will risk losing the ability to do what needs to be done by looking for other alternatives. She does not enjoy fighting, hurting others, or accepting that some must die for others to live--but she acts as she does because she thinks it is the most realistic option.
Haruka is ruled by her emotions more than she tends to show. She tries to act tough and strong, but she often grapples with her own weakness of heart. When Usagi or her friends speak about saving everyone, in a scenario where there are no losers, Haruka wants to trust that they are right and have the ability to make that seemingly impossible scenario happen. This interferes with the resolve she needs to keep the universe protected as a sailor soldier of her power and duty. In these cases, Haruka uses Michiru as her support and inspiration to overcome those moments of doubt and keep moving forward. In the future, after witnessing the miracles that Sailor Moon causes, Haruka is able to resolve some of this internal tension. She doesn't accept that the world is a good place, but she believes that Sailor Moon has the power to triumph over seemingly impossible scenarios. However, she still tends towards thinking that her own abilities are bounded within the realm of possibility, and will frequently make tactical decisions with rational and strategy that may not protect everyone involved.
One of her outward emotional traits is her quick temper. Although she usually seems cool and composed, Haruka angers easily and acts aggressively. This flare typically passes and dies out rather than being something she holds on to and broods over. It takes a moderate amount of stress for Haruka to lash out, but it depends on the situation to see just how much she can take before she reacts with hasty words or angry glares. She often shuts out those who have upset her after she has told them in no uncertain words just how mad she feels. She rarely lashes out physically towards other people, but she sometimes needs to blow off steam with exercise or battle. She is most frustrated by being misunderstood or having her motives questioned, especially by less experienced people or sailor soldiers.
This temper sometimes exposes itself as hostility. She treats questioning or negative commentary as opposition, and her lack of open and easy trust puts up rapid barriers between herself and others. If she senses something "off" about someone, she will regard them with a critical eye and curt words. Particularly as a sailor soldier with the duty to protect the Solar System from outside invaders, she tends to expect the worst from anyone she does not know who admits that they are in unfamiliar territory. She has been trained to prevent intruders, and sometimes that definition is less concrete to Haruka than it may have been meant. New people, met for the first time, are always regarded by her as possible threats until proven otherwise.
Meeting Michiru was life-changing for Haruka, and she loves the other woman with all of her heart. A world without Michiru is not a world Haruka ever wants to live in. She has found someone who accepts her as she is, and someone who she recognizes is just as fallible as herself but still amazes her every day. When they are together, she feels like she can accomplish nearly anything. Michiru's presence boosts her self-confidence and improves her mood. She feels comfortable in all situations, no matter what is going on. She trusts her partner with her life.
In social situations, she flourishes. It was not difficult for her to maneuver her way through the spotlight when she was in the public eye as a young race car driver. Haruka is extremely flirtatious, particularly with other women when around Michiru. She enjoys seeing the sparkle in Michiru's eyes when the sea-haired woman's jealousy flares up; it reminds Haruka that she is first in Michiru's heart. Haruka is careful to keep her interactions just tame and limited enough to avoid actually angering her partner. She adores the flustered look on girls' faces when she teases and compliments them. (However, she
never willingly flirts with men.) This provocative attitude is not limited to strangers--she is equally playful with Michiru. The two frequently volley comments and sly looks back and forth at one another, showing their closeness.
Haruka is particularly affectionate towards Usagi, nicknaming her early on as "
odango" (dumpling) for her hairstyle and later tending towards "
koneko-chan" (kitten). She is both devoted to Usagi because she remembers her duty to Princess Serenity and drawn to Usagi because of the brightness of the girl's heart. Although Michiru is her partner and lover, Usagi is Haruka's princess. If she had to choose between saving only one or the other, she would pick Usagi--and she understand that Michiru would likely support her choice. That does not diminish the devotion that Haruka feels towards Michiru--Haruka would gladly sacrifice her life for Michiru's sake--but her loyalty to Usagi is unfaltering. Even in moments where she seems to be making decisions that are against Usagi's wishes, she is doing them for Usagi's sake.
Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Haruka is a famous professional race car driver, despite her young age. She is also an excellent pianist, frequently providing piano accompaniment for Michiru during the violinist's concert tours. Physically, she is very strong, and has excellent hand-eye coordination and reflexes. She also has some latent psychic abilities, able to detect omens on the wind or sense that there is danger coming. She sometimes has indistinct prophetic dreams. Her connection to Michiru is strong enough that she often knows if the other woman is hurt or threatened. She has been described by Naoko Takeuchi as being both male and female, simultaneously, (although she is physically female) and there is a strong gender ambiguity to her person.
History: During the reign of the Silver Millennium, Princess Uranus was one of the sailor soldiers protecting the far reaches of the Solar System. From her post on Miranda Castle, orbiting the planet Uranus, she worked alongside her partner Sailor Neptune, to protect the Solar System from outside invaders. When the Dark Kingdom attacked the Moon, that peaceful era ended. Like the others, Sailor Uranus was sent to Earth to be reborn in the present day.
In the 20th century, Tenoh Haruka spent her early teenage years confused and looking for some kind of an escape. She felt trapped and tormented by the world around her. Searching for some kind of freedom, she became involved in track and field sports, setting records with the speed of her running. She moved on to race card driving when the sense of being weighted down and confined continued to plague her. In those times, she felt happiest with the wind rushing past her, as if she was flying--instead of bound by gravity.
Still, through it all, there was a sense that something was fundamentally wrong with herself and her life.
This changed when Haruka crossed paths with Kaioh Michiru. The elegant woman, slightly younger than herself, swept into Haruka's life like a whirlwind. From that point on, things were never the same. She awakened to her powers as Sailor Uranus, remembering her mission to protect the Solar System from destruction. With Sailor Neptune by her side, they fought against the Death Busters to prevent the Messiah of Silence from bringing ruin to their world. Initially, Sailor Uranus is uncomfortable around the other sailor soldiers that protect Sailor Moon. Although she respects her Princess, she thinks that Usagi's desire to save everyone is impossible and impractical. When Sailor Moon proves that she can create miracles, this strengthens Sailor Uranus's devotion to her.
She provided support and power to the sailor soldiers as they faced the many forms of Chaos. Her sheer strength--both physical and with her powers--and agility made her an asset to the team. However, her methods remained more aggressive and covert than the other sailor soldiers preferred, and she sometimes worked with Neptune and/or Sailor Pluto independently from the Sailor Team. (This is more apparent in the anime, such as when she defected to Sailor Galaxia with Sailor Neptune, supposedly betraying the others, in hopes of defeating the enemy without putting Sailor Moon in danger.)
She also served as a surrogate family, together with Michiru and Setsuna, to raise Hotaru when she began rapidly aging from a child to an older girl, prior to her reawakening as Sailor Saturn. During her time infiltrating Infinity Academy, she lives in an expensive apartment and alludes to having "wealthy patrons". When raising Hotaru, the group occupy a cozy and comfortable home together. Haruka does not appear to have close ties with her immediate family--she never mentions them and they never appear in either 90s anime or manga.
In the future of Crystal Tokyo, Sailor Uranus continues to serve Neo Queen Serenity--although it is not immediately apparent what her role is in this distant future. Her loyalty to her Princess and now Queen, the brightest star in the universe, remains unchanged.

Storyline Specific Information:- (Advanced) Beyond the Sea of Stars:
The pressures of living a life as royalty is simply too much for the newly-crowned Princess Ulysses of Uranus. Chafing under the yoke of etiquette and responsibility, a far cry from her formative life among a rowdy band of interstellar mercenaries, she hijacks a small vessel from the royal fleet and sails off into vast space to escape her life at the palace.
Her boat malfunctions before she can pass the boundaries of the Solar System, and she finds herself marooned on a nearby planet: Neptune. This place, so different from the clouds of her homeworld of Uranus, amazes her with the vast oceans that she has never before seen. While there, she meets an enchanting young woman, not realizing that girl is in fact Princess Calypso of Neptune.
The young Princess Calypso shares a similar longing for adventure and escape. The demands of her parents have weighed her down since early childhood, as they seek to educate and train a "perfect" future queen for their planet. She does not initially reveal to this mysterious stranger that she is Neptunian merfolk, able to live in their vast cities beneath the waves or walk on the small islands that cover her world... or that she was the one to save the blonde from an untimely watery grave after the Uranian's crash landing.
Slowly their friendship blossoms, and perhaps it may become something more...
Princess Ulysses of Uranus was born to the king of Uranus, a proud man who so deeply wanted a son that he planned to raise his daughter in his image. Unfortunately, the infant princess was kidnapped before she had even learned to walk, and held by a band of mercenaries and hooligans for ransom. The king refused to pay, trying instead to use his influence as ruler of the planet of the skies to fight against them. The space pirates retaliated by escaping with the child, and out in the rough edges of space they raised her among them. Ulysses grew up among the group, believing herself to be one of them in all ways... she only learned the truth when the ringleader of the bandits—the one who she regarded most as a mother figure and dreamed of following in the footsteps of—finally admitted the truth shortly before Ulysses was to turn 21, wracked with the guilt of hiding so much of the young woman's past.
The mercenaries returned the confused and emotionally wounded Ulysses to her home planet, where her mother and father immediately embraced her and appointed her as their Princess and heir. Unfortunately, it has not been an easy transition. Ulysses doesn't know what she wants in life or even who she is—is she this princess that everyone speaks of and hopes for, this person they imagined in her absence? Or is she the person she thought she was—an untamed free spirit exploring the vast reaches of the galaxy, inconsequential to everyone except those she cared for? But how can she care for them when they stole her, tried to trade her for money, and then kept her out of spite?
The only thing she wants is to run—to escape, to be free, to be somewhere else. That's why she ignores her responsibilities and tries to get away from it all.
Princess Ulysses of Uranus is 21 Earth years old, the age of majority for royalty to be recognized. She is not currently a sailor soldier. She has never traveled to the other planets in the Solar System, having spent so much time beyond the reach of her parents' influence.

Senshi Name: Sailor Uranus
Realms of Influence: Sky, wind, flight, and kinetic energy
Transformation Phrases: "Uranus Planet Power, Make Up!" (first and second form)
"Uranus Crystal Power, Make Up!" (final form)
Senshi Fuku: In her first form, Sailor Uranus wears a white bodysuit with a demarcated upper and lower section. Her sleeves are three padded rolls of white fabric. Her sailor collar is navy blue with no stripes, and her short pleated skirt is the same navy blue. The skirt attaches to her bodysuit with a padded white waistband that dips into a slight v-shape. At the back of the waistband, near the small of her back, is a navy blue bow. On the front of her uniform, just below the lowest point of the sailor collar's neckline, is a gold bow with a round navy blue brooch at the center. Her choker is a plain navy blue ribbon. She wears white gloves that reach halfway up her forearms, hemmed with three padded rolls of navy blue fabric. There is a slight angle to the edge of the gloves, reaching higher on the back of her arms than on the inner side. On her feet are navy blue mid-calf high-heeled boots. The only decorations on her footwear are three thick straps of the same navy blue on each foot--one over the arch of the foot and two around the ankle. They all appear to originate on the inside edge of the shoe and cross over at an angle to fasten on the outside edge. A gold tiara curves across her forehead in a slight v-shape, with a navy blue gem at the center. She retains her gold hoop earrings--one in each ear in her manga form and one only in the left ear in the anime. In the anime, she wears prominent lip gloss in her transformed state.
In her "Crystal Power" form, Sailor Uranus's collar now has one white stripe. There is a gold star centered on her navy choker. Her sleeves are now each comprised of two padded rolls of white fabric and a curved wing of sheer fabric with a very slight violet tint. In both the anime and the manga, she now wears a gold hoop earring in each ear. The navy brooch in the center of her front bow is heart-shaped, not circular. Her back bow is larger, with long tails that reach her thighs.
In her final manga form, Sailor Uranus wears a seamless white bodysuit. Her pale blue sleeves are large, bubble-shaped, and translucent. They end high on her upper arm with two padded rolls of navy blue fabric. Her white gloves are much longer than before, now reaching several inches above the elbow. Attached to the upper edge of the gloves are three padded rolls of navy blue fabric. Her sailor collar is navy blue, with a single white stripe adorning the edge. Her skirt is now two layers, and appears more ruffled than pleated. The top layer is navy blue; the bottom layer is pale blue. Where her skirt attaches to her white bodysuit there are two ribbons separated by a slight gap; they follow the same coloration pattern as her skirt--upper is navy blue and lower is pale blue. Where they meet at the central v-shaped point of the waistband, there is a small gold star insignia. At the back of her waistband is a pale blue bow with short tails, but longer tails of the narrow navy blue ribbon from the waistband dangle down to her knees. Her footwear is now knee-high, high-heeled white boots. The top edge of the boot dips down in a v-shape, edged with navy blue trim. At the lowest point of the v-shape there is a small gold star charm. In the center of her chest, at the lowest point of the sailor collar's neckline, is a gold bow with a navy blue star-shaped brooch in the center. Her choker follows the general design of her waistband and the trim at the top of her boots--it forms a slight v-shape with a narrow navy blue ribbon, and at the lowest point of the v-shape is a small gold star charm. Her earrings are now small navy circular studs with dangling navy stars. Her gold tiara is narrower now and the v-shape is more defined than previous iterations. At the center of her forehead is a star-shaped navy sapphire.

Weapons or Magical Items: Lip Rod - Haruka uses this item to transform into Sailor Uranus with "Uranus Planet Power, Make Up!"
Uranus Crystal - This is the sailor crystal that Haruka possesses as Sailor Uranus. It is heart-shaped and navy blue in colour. She uses this item to transform into Sailor Uranus with "Uranus Crystal Power, Make Up!"
(Transformation item in manga universe only.) Communicator - In the 90s anime, Haruka has a communicator that she can use to contact the other sailor soldiers, initially only Sailor Neptune. It looks like a digital wristwatch with a decorative cover, but when the cover is flipped open it has a screen inside the cover and a keypad on the base.
Space Sword - This is one of the three talismans. (In the anime, the three talismans summon the Holy Grail. In the manga, the three talismans summon Sailor Saturn.) This weapon is based on the three Imperial treasures of Japan, with the sword representing valor. Sailor Uranus uses this sword for her attack "Space Sword Blaster!" and for swordplay. The blade shines bright with energy.
Helicopter - In both manga and 90s anime Haruka is shown to be able to operate a helicopter. In the manga, it is clarified that she owns the helicopter; it is named "Tenoumaru" (天王丸).
Guardian: Sailor Uranus does not have a guardian animal. In the manga, Sailor Uranus is protected by Guardian Uranus, her other self.
RP Sample: Sailor Uranus felt the monster move before she saw it, and that provided ample opportunity for her to outmanuever it. It was swift, that was true, but it was hopeless for the thing to expect to overtake her. She avoided its clumsy attempt to aim at her, then stepped into its path, blocking any escape. With a tilt of her head, she smirked at the thing as she slowly closed her fingers into a fist.
"
World Shaking!"
The orb of golden energy slammed into the ground, racing towards the monster. It had no chance; she was too fast for it. Enveloped in the brilliance, torn apart into particles that dissolved into nothingness, it screamed a final cry into the dark Tokyo night sky.
She ran gloved fingers through her hair, tossing it back from her face, ready to face the sailor soldiers with a quip--but she halted in mid-turn.
Something yanked at her heart and squeezed it, knocking the air from her lungs.
Michiru. Her dark eyes widened, terrified. What had happened? What kind of horrible thing had happened?
Why wasn't she there with Michiru?"
Michiru!" she cried out involuntarily, panic-stricken. Her eyes barely registered the forms of Sailors Mars and Jupiter standing nearby. Before they could ask questions or seek explanation, Sailor Uranus was gone, her heels beating against the pavement.
"
Wait for me, Michiru!" she prayed as she ran. "
I'm coming!"
