Do your parents/guardians like Sailor Moon? Since I didn't necessarily grow up with it, I don't think my parents knew what it was. But all throughout my life, they were very accepting of what I liked and didn't like. In fact, for ten years my dad and I went to anime conventions. We make it a point to go to a convention every year. My mom, for the most part, doesn't mind my interest in anime. She saw a few episodes of some anime with me once, and even though she said one was strange, she never disapproved. I do remember my sister catching me watching an episode of Gravitation once and kicked me out of the living room, though it was mostly because she wanted to watch TV.

My parents aren't fans of Sailor Moon.

Two of my cousins are pretty much big Sailor Moon fans, I knew Sailor Moon for the first time through them. They have so many Sailor Moon things at home, especially stationaries and toys. I became interested of Sailor Moon because of my cousins, my cousins always ask me to play or watch Sailor Moon  when I am coming to their house during school holidays.

Not at all. My parents don't watch any sort of animation or read comics.

What I did inherit from my dad was an adoration of cool characters. My dad loves movies and the characters within them. I blame him for my Sailor Moon obsession.

No. My mom doesn't like Sailor Moon either(and she usually gets the name wrong). However, she doesn't mind that I like it and other anime.

My parents don't care one way or another. They know I enjoy it, but they have never seen it themselves.

My father probably doesn't even know what Sailor Moon is, so he probably doesn't have a different opinion on it than on any other anime- which is: he thinks it's trash and stupid.

My mum does know a bit about it, but as I started watching it when I was older, she never got to see any of it, except for posters and cosplays. She does like the music though.

My fathers would not like Sailor Moon, but my mom might have. I'm not really sure, because we never watched it together while she was alive. I know she would have watched it with me, whether she liked it or not. (: I just never thought to ask.

My mom and I regularly watch  Sailor Moon Crystal together and she loves it ^^

Neither my parents care that I watch Sailor Moon. Nor do they have any interest in anime. As a kid I got both of them to take me to Pokemon movies. That's as far I got with them. However my mom does like going to see Disney and Pixar movies with me. When I was a kid my dad would watch cartoons with me and he still watches cartoons with me. 


I think they both accepted that I'm a huge nerd.

I have to say my Mom is familiar with anime from the 1960s-70s era (Astro Boy, Speed Racer and Gigantor), but knew I watched some anime in the 1980s-90s which she isn't really into. She knows what Sailor Moon is from babysitting her friends' 2 daughters in the 90s and I probably told her I watched some Sailor Moon eps. which she doesn't seem to mind or care. My Dad knows little or nothing about anime shows, but when I was a child in the 1980s, he worried about his 2 sons watched "girly' toons and made stupid assumptions it may "turn us gay", which my Mom thought is false and ridiculous, ROFL.

Ooooh man, this is a hot one. I'm married to my wife for 7 years and have 2 biological kids, plus one stepchild. Again, my Mom is a well-educated, open-minded person and she taught my Dad a lesson. This was also in the 1980s, now I can see society is more understanding of LGBT people. I watched My Little Pony and Rainbow Brite about female main characters, and you know, I knew girls in my school who liked Transformers and MASK. Parents are the main role models of children and they teach them what's right or wrong in society, like manners and etiquette, obeying the law (my Mom worked as a police/sheriff dispatcher and matron officer) and being nice towards others. My parents taught me not to be racist, sexist, homophobic and xenophobic, esp. the majority of people around me in my hometown were Hispanic/Latino, while I'm half-French and some American Indian (Cherokee/Osage), and most of all I have autism, something made me different from the majority of peers in my school and in general, society. Sorry if this strays from the topic.

My parents were never opposed to it. But they never understood my love for anime either.

My dad doesn't care about anime either way but I have recently turned my mother into a big Sailor Moon fan.  I started showing her the Japanese version of the original anime and then we started watching Crystal and I even showed her a bit of PGSM and she loves it.  Her favorite character is Chibiusa, her favorite season so far is R, and we're now watching the SuperS season.  I even got my mother the season one DVD boxset for Mother's Day this year.  I've shown her some other anime shows and movies and most recently showed her Spirited Away which she also loved and my mother is a big Ghibli fan.

My mom, surprisingly, always liked sailor moon-though she tired of it as I became obsessed lol. My dad didn't seem to care, though he somehow learned of princess serenity and the fall of the kingdom, along with her suicide and the reincarnation and he was all "OMG THAT IS COOL WOW"

Both of these were when I was a child though, so over 10 years.

My parents were/are very tolerant of my love for Sailor Moon. I don't think they have ever seen a full episode (I found out about Sailor Moon from my stepcousins). They bought me a lot of merch when I was growing up. Like, an excessive amount. They're divorced, so they had no idea how much stuff I actually had. My mom bought the manga set for me two Christmasses ago, which was cool of her.

My dad watched Speed Racer as a kid. He probably doesn't realize it's an anime, but maybe it's the reason he's so supportive.

My dad has never seen nor probably heard about it even though he has been in my room many times and must have seen my TWO Mercury wall scrolls...

In fact, I seem to be the only one in my immediate family to have any interest in anime at all.  I think I've mentioned it briefly to both my mom and my sister, but they have seemed uninterested.  My sister even used to have a boyfriend who was into anime - I remember because back when I was first looking into what anime was on the web (its general traits, history, etc.), her boyfriend asked me what I was looking up on the web.  He liked it when I said I was researching anime, but then I told him Sailor Moon had got me into it.  His change of expresssion was something else....

Then there was my father.  When I first told him I was into anime, he thought I was watching porn cartoons (yes, he was one of those who, from lack of knowledge, believed that stereotype/myth).

Soooooo...my mom has read the manga. Like, all of it, as I obtained them. O.O

She said that she read it to make sure it was appropriate for me at age 8 to read. In the end, she said she decided to let me because of the sheer amount of hope and love and friendship themes that abounded it-themes that I desperately needed at the time. (And also would be there for me if I ever needed to talk about the scary parts. It's funny because I thought for my entire childhood until I was 14  that if she knew about the scary and violent parts, she'd take everything sailor moon related away from me for being "too violent." Talk about a backwards assumption damn.)

I just found this out yesterday. My mind has been blown out of the water, and I am not sure if it will ever return.

Well, back in the day, it was only the porn that made it to the western countries. That's where the myth comes from. THAT I learned from my mother. 

It still sucks though. Sorry Mercuryfan. One day he'll understand that anime is more then the creepy porn, considering it's becoming more and more popular.

Wow - I didn't know that little tidbit (from @Cosmos-Hime's first paragraph above).  Just goes to show, you're never too old to learn new things .

Anyway, when he gave that response to my first mentioning I was into anime, I did my best to try to educate him on the spot about the real situation now.  I told him that anime is so much more than that, and how it even has more variety of material than American cartoons (which, at least to me, seem to be all either superhero or 'comedy').  I don't know how much I influenced him, though - as @Juliko was getting at, he was kind of closed-minded (I wouldn't say really closed-minded, but kind of, yes), plus I was old enough to legally buy porn at the time....

Not sure if this counts, but my nine year old younger sister loves Sailor Moon with me. Her favorite characters are the cats and Chibichibi. 

My parents don't really care about it.

Are you planning on having her watch the new dub once it comes out? I know my sister is actually interested. (Then again, she's 19 and we both watched the old DIC dub as kids.)
