Hallo all,

So this thought popped into my head while I was reading the manga. The Usagi and the girls are always randomly running out of their houses at all hours of the night and day if a youma happens to appear. I know not all of them have families to answer to but Usagi for one has a whole household to worry about. And yet she gets away with a lot of late night rendezvous, traveling to different planets and not coming back for days ... could you get away with that?

I know I certainly could not. My parents always want me to keep them informed on my whereabouts. They don't care where I go, they just like to know when I am coming home so they won't have a panic attack (I'm serious). On the few late nights that I have spent in my studio at school, my parents have actually sent out the school police to look for me because they thought I was kidnapped and raped. -_-

Anyway, my point is that I could never have a secret idenity as a senshi. My parents would totally be suspicious.

Hm, i think i would be in the same boat as you if i were a super hero that had to go out a lot. Honestly i would just sneak out my bedroom window A LOT and just be back before its time to go to school. It seemed Usagi was often able to get away with "hey i'm saying at rei/mako/mina/ami's place." a lot. Also I think it might be a bit different in Japan. I dunno if its just because its anime or what, but i've noticed in these types of shows set in present day Japan, school aged kids have an easier time going out and about without their parents freaking out than I think we do in America. I think it all depends on where you live too.

I think so, too, Brit. I think it's more of the culture.

While Japanese culture might play a role, I think it's more artistic license- it happens a lot in western animation as well. For example, do any of you guys remember Arthur? I remember watching it when I was 8 like "I am the same age as these kids and I never get to run around town or go to restaurants by myself :I" Or for a more relevant example, take any western show involving teenage superheroes- none of the Teen Titans really had parents to worry about (except Raven, but even then she lived away from both parents), and Static Shock had a very protective father but still managed to get out for decent periods of time.

Personally, I think that Usagi's family was having their memories altered in the same way they were so easily convinced that Chibiusa and Chibi Chibi's respective presences were TOTALLY normal. That doesn't fill in all the holes of course, so I like to think Ikuko secretly knew and helped cover for Usagi at home. On the other hand, I have no idea how Minako did it unless her family in Codename was retconned.

This is true! I think also shows like Arthur, it was set in a safe, perfect, small town community where they could walk to school if I remember. I think when you live in those small tight nit towns in America its easier to get away with running around town at 8 years old. lol

I know that at that age I SOOO wouldn't have been able to get away with it. I never had friends over, and my parents were too busy to let me go over to other friend's house and drive me there.

Plus, as much as I Love my parents... They are the type who like to randomly pop into my room "just to say hi". So unless the fighting happened LATE at night, like after they went to sleep..

But then again, there were a few years in high school when they worked nights, but that left me home alone with my younger brother.. and I have a feeling he would totally notice.. not to mention the dogs!

Also, I think I may even blow my own cover to my family. I wouldn't be able to NOT tell them who I was. I know the Senshi don't tell their loved ones for their own protection, but I think I'm wouldn't be able to help myself. I tell my parents EVERYTHING; if something's bothering me, I can't keep it a secret from them.

Oh I know!!! I at least tell my mom everything!

Hee. That is so sweet. But really wonderful, I think! I wasn't very close to my mom growing up, although I am now. Maybe you and your mom would have shared the secret! Hee. Although I do not know if she would have been able to handle you fighting transvestite-like youma at all hours of the day or night. BUT LOOK MOM, THE SILVER CRYSTAL HEALS ME! Oh, my God how AWESOME would it be if my mom and I totally pulled a Moon and Chibi Moon. You know, a mother-daughter team? Haha....

She would probably be fussing over me, and would go all Mama Bear if a monster hurt me, like in the episode where Jupiter first appeared and she lifts the monster OVER HER HEAD. :lol:

Ha! I've thought this over. Usagi gets away with it due to living in the city. I live in the country (Texas y'all) and everything is far away as far as walking is concerned. I drive everywhere. I'd be a Senshi in an armored Jeep or something with a gun. SAILOR TEXAS! haha

No, I wouldn't be able to pull it off without some sort of vehicle of transportation. Moon Cycles anyone?

I also can't keep a secret like that. I would be caught for sure!

My parents watch me like a hawk, and have CRAZY powerful intuitions about what's going on. They'd probably know before *I* knew... :S

For me it'd be a 50/50 percent chance. One my parents aren't too strick if I were to go out at night and not come back till the next day, because they automatically assume I'm with my ex-boyfriend. Then again if I were to be gone for days without calling them, they'd be pissed or freak out.

I'm 31: what do you think? XD I think the only real hinderance would be explaining my mysterious disappearances to my boss. Also, I don't think "off-world saving the human race" constitutes an extentuating circumstance as far as my school's late work rules are concerned. Hehe! XD

In high school? No wayyy.
I wasn't even allowed to see friends unless there was a planned activity.
(My mom insisted that hanging out was bad and I wasn't allowed to just...hang out.)

I live in an apartment for university now, so I wouldn't have issues with it.
However, I couldn't just leave class...

& I would have to tell my boyfriend.
But that's ok he can be my Tuxedo Mask. :U

It would only work if I left at like, 11 pm when my parents are fast asleep and our alarm system was off.. My cat would probably be my Luna/Artemis equivalent and I'm usually on the phone with my boyfriend then so he'd know because I tell him everything. He'd be my Tuxy With the whole brainwashing thing.. I don't think that'd work on him because he's so hard headed that I don't think they could get through to him

NOW I'm living on my own, so I could go anywhere anytime I want. : D But in an age from 14-16 .. I don't know. I lived in a very small apartment with my mother, I'm sure she would have heard the front-door XDDD I don't know. She'd be very angry, too, I guess. But she wouldn't have bothered when I'd suddenly disappeared in the middle of the day. :3
And when I was 16 I moved to my dad - he wasn't often home, anyway, so that wouldn't have been a big problem XD

Now living out on my own and coming and going all hours of the night anyway, of course I could get away with it. Although if my best friend wasn't a soldier with me, she'd probably have to know why I wasn't randomly texting her throughout the day and night.

When I younger, it would have been plausible, unless I missed a meal, we lived on several acres and my parents often went hunting for me in some of my favorite trees when it was darker than it should be for me to be outside.

I could totally get away with it now, because I no longer live with my parents. However, when I was younger, it would have depended on which house I was staying at (divorced parents). It would have been all to easy at one house.

I could have pulled off the old "I'm staying with at my friend's house" for the other house, but my best friend at the time lived only a few blocks away and our families were so close socially that I'm pretty sure it would have backfired, eventually.

Aw man, when I was growing up, no way. I tell my parents everything, and even now I tell them nearly everything. And work would be hard to skip out of. The easiest would have been when I was in college and grad school. Then no one seemed to care where I went at any time.

Eh ... no. I know I couldn't because, while Mom doesn't expect to know where I am every second of the day, she keeps an almost paranoid watch on me. And seeing as none of my friends are conveniently local, I couldn't pull the "I'm staying at a friend's house" trick.

Ugh, I don't think I would, not because of curfews or something, but because I can't keep an exciting secret.

I could get away with being a senshi. I have parents that don't really care what I do as long as I don't get caught. My home is a mix of neglectful parents/ parents who believe individual independence starts at age 11.

I'm pretty sure I could get away with it. My mom doesn't really care as long as she knows when I'm going to be home, and she definitely doesn't check to see if I'm there (I live in the basement and she has trouble going down the stairs). She's also the most sound sleeper in the world, and has sleep apnea so she has to wear one of those weirdo mask things that make tons of noise.

The only problem I would have would be lying to my boyfriend, so I'm pretty sure he would be in on it.

I have my parents, friends and boss to worry/be suspcious about me. However, if magical girl action knocked my door, there's no way I would say no to that.

So that's when my 'having a lot of nerve-ness' skills might come in handy xD I can simply make up the stupidest lie and stick to it until the day I die That'd keep my friends and boss away of my business

Now, about my parents. Once, when I was 15 I forgot to tell them I was going to have lunch with a friend and they effeing called the police. They have calmed down a lot more as time went by, so, if I starting dissapearing with random excuses, mom is prolly gonna think I just hooked up with someone and demand to meet him X,D

So, yeah I'll make the whole magical girl thing work out /somehow/
