Yay, older Doctor!
However, he was in the show twice before. Ten saved him and his family in Pompeii, and on Torchwood he played a crazy politician that messed up Jack's life.

BBC has a tendency to recycle their actors.
I hear he's a great actor and a fine choice. But of course people will hate on him before he even gets a chance to play the role and demand that *insert past Doctor here* come back and I'll resist the urge of releasing a youma on them and stealing their energy to use for the Dark Kingdom's takeover of earth.

Welp, I'm disappointed in the choices that were made
we could've had any number of Doctors. ANY ONE ELSE. Even a female.
...-so unless the kids are invovled I'm probably not going to watch Doctor who any more.- meh

For me, personally, I wouldn't want a female doctor. Doesn't really appeal to me as a character.

I would love a female Doctor. But not in the hands of Moffat, he would not know what to do with a woman.

It may surprise you to know that the Doctor wasn't always a young attractive male.
In fact, we can all thank Peter Davidson for showing the world that The Doctor could be young. Without him there would be no Christopher Eccleston, no David Tennant, and no Matt Smith.

I would rather a female doctor because of how versatile Time Lords/Ladies are. I would also love it if it was a POC character or anything else.
But I agree, someone needs to rescue Who from Moffat before either of those are in his hands. I don't even care that the guy is old, I just don't think he's Doctor Material and all they're really doing is recycling from the cast of Torchwood, Doctor Who and Sarah-Jane (if they could get ahold of them).

I know he wasn't always a young attractive male. All Matt Smith was to me was young and simply that. My only hope is that they bring back River Song because Alex Kingston and Peter Capaldi's ages are very similar. It would be so awesome if River and Clara were both his companion at the same time.

Well, it doesn't surprise me because I've seen most of Classic Who. But... I DO NOT WANT ANOTHER TOM BAKER.
And I agree with Ktenshi. The show needs another showrunner. Sorry Moff.

I'd love to see more character interaction between River and Clara. Their connection looked to still be open by the end of Series 7 so who knows.
OMG imagine if Clara had post library River in her head while interacting with a past River. The insanity!

Eh, I don't even know where this show would go now. River's supposedly dead at this point. (Which I'm betting they'll just leave her there actually.)
I'm just..sorely disappointed at the moment.

I don't see why she would be permanently dead, though. The fact that the Doctor and River always met in the wrong order and she said she had pictures of all his faces should put it out there that they met in a few of his generations.

River is too popular a character to be left dead. However, Moffat does love killing people so idk.
I'm biased because Davison is my fav. classic Doctor (which is funny because Tennant is my new!who fav), but I seriously like the older Doctors. Besides, since when is 55 'old' anyway? It's not like he's Hartell.

It's old in the sense of the reboot. To go the introduction of Eccleston at 41, then David in his mid thirties, then Matt Smith in his mid twenties, and now a man at 55 is a bit of a shock for people who didn't watch the Classic Episodes.
Moffat better bring back River or I'll join the I Hate Moffat Club.

I honestly don't want River back on the show /: her character wasn't even well developed, and I don't think she was too popular, for all I've seen, she receives a lot of hate from the fans.

She get a lot of hate, but she is very popular, especially with younger fans. Like any other fandom, this one has seen a huge influx of teenaged fans that just love everything no matter what.
As for my Hartell comment, not only am I sure I'm spelling his name wrong (sorry!), but he was also 55 when he started playing the Doctor. He just had prosthetics and a condition that aged him so much.

I've never understood why people don't like River. She's such a kick chibi, strong, and sassy character. Not only did she admire the Doctor, she wasn't afraid to put him in his place and tell him what he needed to hear.
Explain to me what makes her not very well developed?
