So, for me personally, when I woke up this morning, my first impression was a little... juvenile?


But once I really took a moment to look over the images a couple more times, honestly I can say that it is very "Naoko" esque and honestly I like the variety in them. You can see a huge difference between the way Rei is drawn vs Makoto.


And I HAVE to gush, Makoto is literally the cutest freaking thing!

AND AND, Ami's oversized sweater ;u; She is too adorable

Yeah, I'm starting to warm up to them too. I think the individual character designs look way better then the group shot that was released first. I still think, however, that there are areas that look a little...off I guess. Such as the neck and legs. I think the super long legs is something they should of maybe left in the manga. The legs just look really weird to me when they are in their senshi forms. But it could look great once it's animated. Who knows? *shrugs*

Damn they look good with transparent background on this forum. I'm liking them more and more the longer I look at them. The proportions are all weird, but yeah. I really love Ami and Rei's looks personally. The one I'm sold least is Usagi, who does not look like Usagi at all, which is a problem, but maybe they'll fix it. >_>

I need to stare at it some more but the only one I genuinely don't like right now is Rei. Surprise. I don't like myself thus far.

I think Minako is not going to be serious again -.- I mean maybe but by the looks of it I say no. Which'll suck we don't need a Usagi jackass companion again like in the first anime. But of course we'll see if that's even the case.

The profiles of Rei are way better at least so maybe I'll stare at those.

And @Merc: yeah I definitely see what you mean with Usagi. Just something about her. She doesn't look naive to me? Or a lazy dunce. Basically right now for me it doesn't seem to catch her personality.

Her main civilian picture is okay-ish but the senshi forms are just weird.  :bunnynarroweye 

Minako was kind of playful in the manga too, though. PGSM was the only version with her super serious. I kind of want a mix of both because I like Minako with layers/complexity and that duality of fun vs. serious responsible leader.

Not even as senshi does she look serious but we shall see

I also like the mix of personalities for Minako, Merc. And I'm worried Rei is gonna be super serious too. I just don't like the full body pics but the head shots are actually growing on me. I still have reservations tho, I just don't think they look as breathtakingly beautiful as could have been. ._.

I didn't like them at first, but they've grown on me. Ami's my favorite.

I'm really glad they're including accessories from the original design, like Usagi's original broach  and Sailor Venus's chain. I feel a little more confident that it will be released now without further delays (though a small preview clip would put all my doubts to rest).

And Ami's sweater is so adorable.

Ami and Mako are my favorites. Ami is just soo cute in that sweater!  

i agree with the senshi!usagi, she seems weird. also, i don't like rei as much. i'm really happy with makoto, though. like i said on the niconico topic, what made me the happiest is that mako's hair is more red, more similar to the manga.

about minako, i think she should have her stupid girl moments and her serious moments. after all, a leader must know when to have fun, too.

and i have really liked ami's sweater, it suits her "nerd" personality really well

I think Usagi in civilian form looks nice but she does look somewhat weird in her senshi form. I actually like Rei out of all of them personally.

i am kinda liking the new character designs, very different. I am excited to see what they look like in animation.

I don't have anything against any of the designs right now, like Hikari said, it will be exciting to see them in animation.

At the moment I don't like them at all. Looks like the drawings were poorly funded and done by Flash Animation. 

I guess I'll need to stare at them longer, but right now I'm severely disappointed.

I think they only look flat and whatnot because they're still shots.

The only thing that's bugging me right now is they don't look... finished? Or I guess 'polished' would be better. When I look at these designs I'm getting these images of sketchy stop motion backgrounds behind them for the animation in my head and I don't like it :/ The girl are all really pretty and I'm happy about all of the manga fuku designs but they just don't look finished to me :/

My first impression of the new design is how bishoujo the girls look, with poofy bangs and bee-stung lips. I don't think this new style is necessarily a bad thing, since it feels like the manga style with a modern update, it's just new and I'm sure most people will get used to it after a while. For now though, the new designs strongly reminds me of fanart, but that's probably because I'm so used to the 90's anime's style and the new style hasn't clicked as "official" in my head just yet. XD;;

I also noticed this, how the line art looks a little rough, like it was based off a sketch. Maybe Toei wanted to get something out but were still trying to pin down the exact designs, and so the line art came out a bit rushed?

I'm still not entirely sure what to think just yet. I don't hate them but I don't love them either. Am I the only one who thinks their feet look too large and super clunky?


I have to agree with you, too, mysteryloveandjustice. They do look a little unfinished or whatever the best term would be. I feel like there could be a bit more fine tuning and then maybe I'd be happier?

I'm just not too sure... I'm a little dazed I suppose.

I wish that Jupiter had her pink chain belt and Mars had that Jewel thingy on the middle of her waistline like in the Manga. Oh well.

THOUGH since those images, I believe, where stated to only be the completed concept art. So always chances and time for changes before July. So we'll just have to see.

Like you can't have Moon, Mercury, and Venus have the details from the manga on but just leave out Mars and Jupiter. That just seems lazy. Plus, Naoko herself has been involved in this and I don't think she would let them get away with something like that even if it's a small detail.

Maybe it'll get added in later, or the items only show up during attacks. Kind of like how in the anime, Jupiter's lightning rod was retractable.

Yeah, I defiantly agree that they should've done everyone! But, they did have Naoko approval first. So I don't know.

I know they joked about it taking a while to get it from her too. XD

Haha, yeah! I defiantly like Juipter's lightning rod being retractable or else it's be wiggling all over the place when the moved and would be soooo distracting!
