I believe he does a mixture of both actually. Much of his art is also for official works for the Italian and German dvds as well as the artwork we have seen on any merchandise made by GE Animation.  However, from checking out his website, I think he does his own fanart when he wants that isn't necessarily used as official art. ^^

I think i've stated this already but with this image, I get a more manga feel. Do you guys think it will strick very close to the manga or will they add in stuff like in PGSM and come up with some new canon things as well? I personally would like it to have its own personal touch while also still covering some of the manga bits that I've always wanted to see animated.

Since Naoko was totally in control of PGSM (as in, if she didn't want it to happen, it wouldn't), I believe we may have a thing or two more PGSM-ey. Also, I want it to be like that because of the amazing character development, you know?

Yes definitely! Cause tbh, if it follows the manga, we are going to have Generals that die in one episode of their appearance and only a small amount of development of the girls because we only get some. We actually get more character development of the girls from the side stories int he manga really.

Yeah Naoko was on a deadline, but there are ton of mangas that get updated once a month and their stories have character depth and what not. She updated it once a month, right? Guys I saw this Article I dont know if its legit or not but, it even says who the director and supervisor are and they even gave a statement saying that the anime will be based on the manga!!!!

looking at ed's signature...it makes me think. if the anime is more manga based, it's possible they won't be doing so many funny faces like they did the original anime. i will miss that. XD

i do like a funny face and cheese of the original anime. Manga was great and all but give me the anime just about any day.

Why not just its own thing...why japan whyyyy. xD Why does everything have to be exactly like its original. It makes going back to read or watch some series pointless (to me), for example the Dragonball series. The manga is EXACTLY the same as the anime and since i saw the anime first i have no desire to read the manga. But alas we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Also if they do a "lets capture Ami" thing again, can we have a bit more akin to the Darkury arc of PGSM? Cause that would be swell. xD

Nobody's saying it's going to be exactly the manga. Every single version of Sailor Moon is based on the manga because it's the original source. That doesn't mean they will follow it exactly. Cause if they do, we'd only have like... very few episodes. They'd have to make some changes just because of the different nature of anime vs manga.

The fact that they're using accurate fuku and everything is nice, but those could just be the details they want to get right this time around. Even the musical did its own thing while still following the manga closely. Let's just trust the creators to create something good.

My hope for Naoko being involved and approving this is that she'll have a more hands on approach to this (and her wishes will be respected) and we can see what she wished she maybe could have added in her original story.

I mean I know if I had finished a series and been "sitting" on it for 20 years I'd be itching to make some changes...and or totally be like OMG new head canon... oh wait, I'm god I can make it so..

^Thats kinda what happened with PGSM.

The only reason I'm assuming its going to be more like the manga is just seeing how La Reconquista was and the artwork and the fact that they've been dropping hints since like 2012 that it will be aimed with older fans in mind and is from scratched based off the manga, it makes me think they are attempting something like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

But thats not to say that it will follow manga storyline closer but with its own twists and new plot lines. Its a little to early to say. I'm just skeptical at this point because its still just slated for a web only release instead of also being broadcasted on TV in japan. If they announce it to be broadcasted on TV in Japan i would have better feelings for it. ^^;

For some reason I was okay FMA:Brotherhood following the manga. Probably because the manga is my favorite version of FMA and we got to see the manga only characters finally appear in an anime. Ling!!! <3 

As for Crystal. :/ I'm not excited if it's going to be like Brotherhood. The FMA had the character development in the manga while the Sailor Moon manga only had little.  So I'm a bit scared of what Crystal will be like. I hope they take their own spin like how PGSM did. I will be very sad if the Generals are killed off so quickly.

@Yami, yeah I'm not syaing FMA Brotherhood was bad (I haven't watched it yet, but it seems fan consensus is that its GREAT), but like you said, the manga is lacking in a lot of stuff. I know a lot of people love the manga and I really love the manga too, but its probably the worst version of sailor moon in terms of character development and pacing of the story.

A good example of in SM world discussion is that the musicals that stuck closer to the manga (Mugen Gakuen I'm looking at you) are really just not as good as other ones that took from both anime and manga and came up with its own thing.

I know you're not! I just find it odd that I was okay with it following the manga. XD

OMG I"m so excited!!!!

It's nice that the style will be similar to the manga but at the same time the style makes them look older than they really are, especially when it comes to proportions.
