| Okay, so this is a little question that's been floating in my head. As far as the Dead Moon plot was concerned, and having read about the differences between the manga and anime, I prefer the anime version. Nehellenia in the anime, as the misguided and corrupted queen of another moon, comes off as a more interesting and tragic villain to me than a being that just wandered out of the Moon's core one day (and can you imagine what she must have smelled like when she got to the surface?).
So here's a little headcanon debate: As far as the anime went, what was her kingdom called? Now your instant reaction may be "It's the Dead Moon". And that is certainly the name it used in canon, in the present time. But what I am asking is what it's name was to start with.
Let's say that Earth did have a lost moon, just like the debunked theory from years and years ago, and that said moon had a kingdom established on it. It certainly wouldn't have been called the Dead Moon. That's a terrible name to start with, especially if it wasn't evil to begin with. It's as poor a name choice as when DC comics named their new world-domination focused cult the Religion of Crime. As the creators said in interviews afterwards, they really should have picked something better, as something like that wouldn't get too many converts.
In my mind, a name like "Dead Moon" was something adopted afterwards, and perhaps a derogatory named placed upon the kingdom.
So, what do you all think? |

| Hmmm...well, the English dub name for Dead Moon, Dark Moon, would have been a lot more feasible for a kingdom name, because dark doesn't necessarily mean evil. Although, since there is already a Dark Kingdom and a Black Moon, and since the Circus is centered around the Amazon, I translated Dark Moon into Spanish: Luna Oscura. I think it's rather simple, but rather pretty as well. |

| Well I didn't get the impression she came from the Moon's core but from the darkness of the Moon so I would suppose New Moon would seem fitting. Plus it goes with the whole eclipse factor. |

| I can be in agreement with either Dark Moon or New Moon if Nehelenia came from the moon. However, I could be wrong on this, but it almost looked like Nehelenia came from an entirely different moon in the anime, orbiting an entirely different planet. If she came from an entirely different moon, she could hail from also the Moon Kingdom. Plus the "Black Moon" already used is referencing Nemesis and that isn't a moon. They just took on an inverted black crescent. However, I know Nehelenia is to represent like the dark mirror image of Serenity and therefore probably come from the dark side of the moon, so...Dark Moon or New Moon Kingdom it is! |

| ^Actually, I thought the anime idea is that she came from a second moon that orbited Earth. There was a theory about such a hidden moon several years ago. The man who came up with it named the hypothetical moon Lilith, which would be great for a villain. Nehelenia sort of reminds me of Lilith, or at least physically reminds me of Lilithmon. But then again, Nehelenia isn't a baby strangler or infant mortality incarnate.
All of these are such interesting names. Although, here's an idea that came to mind. As you all have mentioned, the name "Black Moon" was taken by the group from the future. But what if when they picked that name, they weren't being original?
What if the other Moon Kingdom was called the Black Moon (not necessarily evil mind you, perhaps it was darker or had darker soil) and the group in the future took the old name as their own? It's just something that popped into my head, and like I said, all these other names are so interesting and wonderful. |

Thank you. If I remember correctly, Lilith as it is represented in astrology (well, the second moon anyway, there are three minor aspects of astrology called Lilith, the false moon, the asteroid, and a lunar position) is also called the Dark Moon. If I remember correctly, the glyph for it is a crescent moon on top of a small cross, sort of like the sign for Mercury or Venus. But while the Moon's glyph is usually an outline, this thing is always totally black. Though I am not sure whether they intentionally make sure the crescent is the opposite of the Moon's symbol. Another idea that popped into my head was calling it Lemuria. You know, since the grunt monsters are called Lemurs, and Lemuria is a lost continent (thought it seems to have been created in more recent history, unlike Atlantis, and was more a hypothesis than a myth). |
