I had a thought. It was kind of random, but go with it.

Queen Beryl defeated and destroyed the Moon Kingdom, right? And she conquered the Earth. But clearly, she wasn't the most powerful villain in the series. Each villain in the series seemed to get stronger than the next, with Galaxia being the strongest of them all. With that being said, what does that mean about the power of the galaxy at the time of the Silver Millennium? It's almost like they weren't very powerful at all. They were easily defeated by Beryl. Imagine had it been Galaxia Debate: Just how powerful was the galaxy really? 586865221

I mean, the senshi always powered up in the next season, especially Usagi, to take on the next villain. Thus showing that such power ups were needed and also possible. So why were the Moon and Earth defeated so easily? could it be that because times were so peaceful they didn't need to tap into all of their power? Or maybe they no longer knew how/could tap into all of their power?

I know; I've heard the whole "well Sailor Moon could have/was supposed to end after the first season" and that probably the power ups were for flair/interest and all that. But let's put those aside for this.

Thoughts?

I feel like they were weak because they were living in a peaceful time. It's like the Fall of Crystal Tokyo City. They were living in peaceful times and yet the Dark Moon Clan was able to destroy half of the city. The Senshi sould have been able to take them on seeing how they should have all their powers up in that time.

Personally, I think Galaxia had time to build up her power. We don't know exactly how old she is, for one. Or when Chaos chose to visit her- Considering the Milky Way Galaxy (which..is our galaxy) is enormously huge, it would be fair enough to say that she could've started her campaign then.

I also think that- yeah, basically if the threat is not there, there's no need for calling on powers they don't need or have foreknowledge about these powers. Given that no one actually knew the limits- for all they know that first basic form IS their most powerful form. How would they know better?

To point out the Black Moon Clan- it occured when there's no need. Basically, those Sailor Senshi have no idea that the Black Moon Clan would attack since in their timeline (Yay Paradoxes) Chibiusa never came back in time for them. Otherwise, they would've been prepared military wise for that attack. (which would render Chibiusa going back in time kinda invalid because they would've defeated them the first go around for good.).

So for them, as I stated before- their basic level to us, is their most powerful Form. Like in the anime- Princess/NQ Serenity and Prince/King Endymion would've been their most powerful forms. <- There's no Super, No Eternal or Cosmic, just those two forms.

So yea.

But what does Galaxia's age or power build up have to do with anything? I was just stating that, Galaxia in the series, was the most powerful villain.

I can agree with the whole since there was no threat, their power had been in the reserves and they probably couldn't tap it. But! With that being said, then what is the point of having senshi? They're supposed to be guardians. Protectors. They should always be ready for an impending threat. You have the outers guarding the outer edges of the galaxy and the inners are supposed to be ready for any internal threat. But, they obviously were not. That's how it was supposed to be in the Silver Millennium and pretty sure in the 30th century.

And yet, they were easily defeated until the present senshi (the ones Chibiusa goes back in time for) are called upon and they seem to be able to handle the threats.

It is not always a matter of strength. The Earth fell because it was infected by Metalia, Beryl included during the meteor shower, more to do with the weakness in the hearts of men rather than strength. Queen Serenity was alot less powerful at the moment of Beryl's invasion as she says in the manga, the death of her daughter traumatised her and she was unable to use the full strength of the Silver Crystal. As the villains have different tactics and strategies but they all string from the same power source (Chaos) so they are probably not as weak as each other but more the girls power up as they gain experience. Shoujo manga unlike shounen more often are to do with strength of heart rather than raw training. This is why they can get away with so much deus ex machina, so it seems that its more when the girls are ready to use all their power when they face the big bad of the season due to their mental state, there's always something. The death of Mamoru, Black Lady, Sailor Saturn's sacrifice and so on that gives Usagi a mental boost for them all to unite together. Also if you notice the battles of the second, third and fourth arcs of the seasons actually don't exhaust Usagi of as much power as the Dark Kingdom. She even died in PGSM and the anime. Because she was weaker but she continually, so they are probably getting progressively stronger but not to the same extent Usagi and the girls are. At least thats what I would think

Lest not forget that its not all about physical power. The earlier villain Beryl was blinded by jealousy and loneliness. Demand went insane. Mistress 9 and Nehelenia had considerably less issues (manga only!) and Galaxia even less.

I sorta thought that Chaos was trying to destroy it's future enemy (Sailor Cosmos) from the beginning. First it sent Metallia (a tiny bit of itself), since, hey, she did it the first time. Then just sent stronger and stronger enemies (and more and more of itself) until it was forced to send Galaxia.

The senshi were never supposed to waken to begin with. They were supposed to have nice, normal lives. So with each enemy, they're only given the power and knowledge they need to defeat it, then return to what they were doing.

If you take Chaos out of the equation, you could simply see it as Beryl being the most powerful thing in the Solar System at the time, but with each enemy defeated, the.... "brighter" the silver crystal is shining out to the universe, it's light going further and further into space, attracting bigger and bigger enemies.
