| I'm not a fan of realism at all. I don't like seeing the senshi portrayed as any other ethnicity other then Japanese. I also don't mind seeing them "skinny" due to the fact they are probably fit due to their activity as senshi. Particularly Haruka, Minako, Ami, Makoto and Michiru. |

there's a difference between skinny and being portrayed as acurately muscular. The Senshi actually wouldn't be "skinny", most of them would have defined muscles from all of the activity they have. Senshi like Jupiter and Uranus would, I think, be even more muscular given that they were already pretty strong outside of being Senshi. Jupiter was known to get in fights after all. Jupiter is also just a bigger built girl. She's taller and will not be "skinny" if portrayed accurately in real life. I realize they are all drawn to look thing, but thats just stylization. They are also pretty curvy too. So I don't think they'd all be "skinny". I think they'd look normal and healthy for their size and not over weight. |

Honestly, that is what I meant by putting the "". Where does it imply that the girls are curvy? Besides Makoto who said herself she had the biggest bust? Just curious. It is defiantly possible to be both skinny and fit at the same time. It is also possible to be curvy and skinny at the same time as well. For example Victoria Secret models. Some people are just naturally skinny. In high school I was defiantly fit from cheerleading, but I was skinny. I wasn't average like the rest of the girls on my squad, but I defiantly wasn't unhealthy at that point. Now I'm underweight though, it sucks! I defiantly wish I had a booty and fleshed out a bit! |

| The way the girls are drawn in many of Naoko's illustrations is kind of "sexy" and curvacious. I wasn't meaning curvy in like extreme curvy (say for my body type as an example). But they are draw with defined thighs and busts. In the anime too. There's even times where Chibi-Usa has something going on in some of the illustrations. |

| Love.love, I feel the same way as you do about not being interested in realistic depictions of Sailor Moon. The whole reason why I personally gravitate to manga and anime is because it is not realistic, it is artistic and as an artist I love that. I find it rather off-putting to see realistic portrayals of Usagi and the girls because they will never work. And the reason quite frankly is this: anime and manga is Japanese and the characters speak Japanese and are apart of a Japanese culture. Yet in the art, they do not look exactly Japanese, they are this vague in-between of a Western and Asian influence that can never be captured by realism. If one tried to draw them as purely Japanese that would not work because no Japanese girl could have the wide blue eyes and blond hair as Usagi does, yet any other ethnicity would not be proper either. And I have gone off on a mini tangent now. |

| It's been forever since we've used this topic, but I found some AMAZING ones of the Outers that weren't on here from that one dude... I have no idea what his name is hahah but I had to share them. My favorite is Hotaru It won't let me right click or even left click on the images except for Michiru so I'll just post the links. http://7r.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-117.html http://7r.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-120.html http://7r.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-118.html I also LOVE the one of Chibiusa but something about it is weird. Like it definitely doesn't seem very Chibiusa to me. But I still think it's cute. http://7r.blog33.fc2.com/blog-entry-94.html As far as what you guys were saying with the eyes, I agree that they can sometimes be creepy. But I think he drew them that way for the same reason that the girls are so skinny-- He's just drawing them the way Naoko drew them. She made them disproportionately skinny with big eyes and the artist was just doing the same. Still, I don't think it's enough to take away from the beauty of these pictures |

and Makoto should be athletic (even muscular) and well, she has to have big breasts =X |

I personally always did x) This is why I especially love those episodes in the anime where they use the "everything is circles" art director. ^^ Seeing how Usagi is a bit of a lazy spoiled kid (at the beginning of the serie), it fits her :3 |

and Makoto should be athletic (even muscular) and well, she has to have big breasts =X Headcanon bodies, incoming~ I see Usagi as being big around the thighs and stomach. x3 She eats more than me and I'm bigger than her. lmfao. Also saw Chibi-Usa as being slightly chubby but then again, little kids' often are. I always saw Makoto and Haruka as somewhat muscular. Makoto having a more lean, tall build, with Haruka just having a bulky masculine build with very few curves. I always saw Ami as very thin, not like, unhealthily so, but below average weight. Hotaru as super-thin too, to the point where it looks a fair bit unhealthy. Rei with an average build leaning to slightly thinner than average. Setsuna as tied for tallest of the senshi with Makoto, quite skinny but still some curves. Minako having basically like "that one body every girl wants", not short but not really tall, quite curvy around the hips and bust, etc. Michiru having a build like Minako's but a bit taller and slightly less curvy. /HEADCANON GO Also on topic; realistic pictures of Sailor Moon are so awesome, I wish I could draw like half the artists in this thread * w* |

| yeah, Minako would have DAT body. I also agree on that. and Haruka would have a more masculine body.
chibiusa also would be a bit chubby, but not much.
mamoru would be a thin boy. not really muscular, just thin. idk why, he just strikes me as a thin boy. |

And I have gone off on a mini tangent now. Japanese realism for the girls works for me because of PGSM and musicals. I am just use to seeing it despite Sailor Venus and Moon always looking super weird because the yellow color wig they make the characters wear in every live action continuum is just gawd awful and unflattering to everyone! She's too dark for a realistic Setsuna I think, but her features look more Asian which I like. Her skin color doesn't bother me because honestly the color scheme is beautiful. I wish Naoko would have drew them like this, but of course that would be a no-no in Japan. |

| I'm a big fan of realistic proportions and curvy figures. In fact, I think my drawings of the girls tend to lean on the chubbier side. I blame it on my love for Mucha-style Art Nouveau: You can see more of my Sailor Moon art (or just art in general) in my dA gallery: http://teo-hoble.deviantart.com/gallery/ That being said, I have nothing against the thin, long-legged versions of the girls either. They also have a femininity about them, albeit completely different from the one I personally like and try to give to the characters. They're all just different styles and as long as the drawing/painting is high quality art, I will probably love it no matter the style . Some brilliant examples in this thread - the Serenity painting posted previously is especially stunning! |
