| I don't know how I've managed to not join a Sailor Moon forum until now. It's one of my favorite series ever.
Okay, about me:
My name is Mark Moore. I'm 33 but will be 34 on October 18. I was born in Chicago, but my parents and I moved down to this "town" in Florida in June of 1986, when I was 7.
I grew up on 1980s cartoons and got introduced to anime, like a lot of people, through "Vampire Hunter D" in 1994 or 1995 on late-night TBS (though I programmed it; didn't watch it live).
I got into Pokemon in 1999 when the series was still in the first season here (watched reruns early on weekday mornings and, eventually, the new episodes on Saturday mornings).
My first exposure to Sailor Moon was the "Lunarock" album. Seriously. Funny story. Sometime after February 8, 2000 (this was the release date of the "Pokemon World" single, according to Wikipedia, and "Lunarock" was the next album that I bought after that), I was on one of my periodic anime-purchasing excursions to the Electronic Boutique in the Gulf View Square Mall, which is one hour south of here, in Port Richey. On this day, I happened to stop at a Wal-Mart on the way down there and saw the "Lunarock" album. I had read about this "Sailor Moon" thing briefly online earlier, so I bought it to check it out. I listened to those 8 songs (6 English and 2 Japanese) and enjoyed them, despite having no context that I could draw on.
My first visual exposure to Sailor Moon was the clamshell VHS of the English dub of the R movie, "The Promise of the Rose", which I got at the Toys 'R' Us next to the Gulf View Square Mall. I knew nothing about the series or the characters, but Serena was helpful in the introductions, and I learned she "happens to own the world's most powerful compact". According to Amazon, this tape was released on February 8, 2000, so it's possible that I got it on the same trip, shortly after buying the "Lunarock" album, but I can't say for certain.
Around the same time, I got the "A Moon Star is Born" VHS tape, which contains the titular episode and "Talk Radio".
I watched and taped the weekday morning reruns of the first two seasons and eventually got the "Songs from the Hit TV Series" album.
I eventually got the S and Super S movies dubbed and the R and S movies subbed (but missed out on getting the subbed Super S movie VHS tape).
I learned S and Super S were being dubbed but, not having cable, was unable to watch it - until I got the English VHS tapes at Wal-Mart. I was disappointed that so many voice actors had left (the older actors doing the movies had given me false hope) but was glad that Katie Griffin was back as Raye.
On December 3, 2001, my mom and I went to the Gulf View Square Mall, and I bought The Dream Box Set DVD collection of the movies and the S and Super S series DVDs (as well as a ton of other DVDs, mostly anime; I had gotten my second computer earlier that year, and it had this nifty thing called a DVD-ROM drive).
I eventually got the English dub of the first two seasons on DVD (sadly, around 3 of these DVDs have errors, which makes watching some episode impossible) and the subbed box sets of the first two seasons (I recall one episode of R had skipping issues, and I was ticked that Toei had ordered the filler episode to be left off).
I've watched it all except for Super S. I've only recently started on volume 2. Yeah, pretty bad that they've been sitting, unopened, since late 2001, but Super S is, well,...Chibi-Usa, 'k? I'll finish it eventually, because I want to get started on Stars.
I downloaded PGSM back in 2003-2004, but I only recently finished watching it earlier this year. I don't know what took me so long. It's so sweet and charming! Okay, technically, I have to locate where I put the "Act 0" prequel as well as watch the "Kirari Super Live" concert (or whatever it's called), "Super Dance Lesson", and whatever DVD extras that I might have managed to find.
So...that's me. Hi! |

| Welcome to the Galaxy Cauldron! ^^ I see you're quite a great fan of the anime Don't hesitate to have a look at the manga! The story is completely different. Thought one may argue its pacing is less natural. |

| Welcome to GC Mark! Like your Sailor Moon introductory story. You should give SuperS a chance, Chibi-Usa is really not that bad. xD I think fans of the dub think she is because how they portrayed her in the R season. She's really not THAT bratty and is super amazing in the manga. Also SuperS has some of the best comedic episodes of the anime and is possibly my 2nd favorite season after Classic. Hope you are enjoying the forums so far! |

| Thanks for the welcomes, everyone!
I forgot to mention I have the entire original run of the manga - as well as some of those full-sized Mixx comics, which I got in a 4-pack in a bookstore. I'd gotten up to Super S in the manga but then kind of stopped reading it. I figure, now, I'll just by "Codename: Sailor V" and the new translation and read it from the beginning.
I'd also bought the novel series up until #8 (or whatever the last one was) but stopped reading somewhere along the way. Too Americanized. I also got one of those children's books that came out after the novel series was cancelled. |
