I've looked everywhere I could think of, but I couldn't seem to find an answer to this question so I thought I would post it here.

Are there any rules about posting in a thread that hasn't had any active posts in a long time? I've seem some forums that are very strict about this issue, so I wanted to make sure. Mostly I am thinking about the theory and debate threads because I've been looking over them, and they're so interesting that I kind of want to reply, but I don't want to cause a problem by bringing back a "dead thread".

I am not aware of an official rule regarding this matter. In my opinion, the inactivity of a thread should not dissuade others from adding their own opinions or bring new, creative ideas to the subject. Sometimes, it is really nice to see an inactive thread become active once again.

I think so long as the thread bumping isn't extremely excessive, ie somebody bumping 20-30 inactive threads all at once just to up their post count, it's fine!

Yeah, I think there is a difference between simply 'bumping' an old thread and contributing positively to an old thread.

There really is no reason since it's rarely a problem. We don't really have any thing based on post count, so you don't gain ranks by post count as some places do.


If a situation such as Mars suggested ever happened, we would just speak with the person and kindly ask them to space it out if they REALLY need to post in them all.
