There are quite the few differences between Yuuichirou and Chad, namely being their backstory; however, their attitudes towards Rei are the same: protective, flustered to the point of clumsiness, and completely dedicated. He would do anything to please Rei, even when her wish may make him seem foolish or less-than-manly (such as carrying her shopping bags) because he has loved her from first sight.

He is a scraggly looking man, with long brown hair and whiskers on his chin, and has ‘hunky’ blue eyes (when you can see them). He’s tall and in good shape, thanks to the many tasks of keeping the Shrine clean and presentable. His chores include any cleaning that one could possibly imagine needing cleaning; he is a companion for Rei’s grandfather and his help around the house, and he consistently does what he can for Rei, such as getting her tea.

In the English dub of Sailor Moon, Chad is a starving musician who was living on the streets, down on his luck until he met the beautiful Shrine Maiden Raye. Immediately afterwards he signs up to help out at Cherry Hill Temple to be closer to her, but stayed longer because of his desire to improve himself.

In the Japanese original, his history was a little different. Though he appeared to be homeless when he woke up on the steps of the Hikawa Shrine in his first episode (episode 30), wherein he instantly fell in love with Rei and promptly became her grandfather’s apprentice, Yuuichirou is actually from a very wealthy family. He left his home because he wanted to better himself, as we learn in episode 38 when he invites the girls to stay at one of his parents’ vacation houses while they were away in Switzerland.

Through either version, we learn that, while clumsy, he is determined to work hard. We also learn that he is an excellent skier, and attempts to protect Rei from a Youma attack at the Moonlight Course Ski Resort (earning him a kiss… while he was unconscious. Can’t catch a break, can he?). Though Rei is harsh on him, we see her personality softening around him at points, showing us that she cares for the loveable clutz. In fact, in “Usagi’s Everlasting Wish! A New Reincarnation” Sailor Mars wishes that she had kissed him goodbye.

… but then she gets reincarnated. ＼（＾ ＾）／ The love/hate fest of Rei and Yuuichirou continues.

In the R season (episode 70), a memorable episode for Yuuichirou/Chad is when Coan/Catzy attacks the temple after a workout-scheme, in an attempt to capture the rabbit. Coan corners Rei’s grandfather, and Rei stands protectively over him, ready to face the next fire blast in her civilian form, but then Yuuichirou jumps in its path and saves her, taking the attack himself.

The final super episode for Yuuichirou is in the Super season, episode 99, wherein Yuuichirou thinks Rei and Haruka were dating (thinking Haruka was a male, of course). He felt terrible, but became incredibly angry later when he saw Haruka with Michiru, believing that Rei’s boyfriend was cheating on her. He challenged Haruka to a fight, but Haruka wasn’t interested. When Rei found the two arguing, he thought she was taking Haruka’s side, and decided to leave Tokyo. Once reaching the station, Kaolinite appeared and extracted his Pure Heart Crystal, knocking him unconscious. When he awoke, he was in Rei’s lap, as Rei ran after him to the station and then fought Kaolinite herself for his heart crystal. She took him back home and took care of him.

And that’s it, so far as Yuuichirou/Chad is concerned. Those were the episodes wherein he showed his true mettle, and his worthiness as a romantic interest for our fiery Rei. Random Information:

When I was little and played Sailor Moon Adventure Dolls with my little sister, we used a regular dollhouse dude as Chad. We gave him a surfer voice, kept him as a musician, and was absolutely the most comical character in the world as far as falling went.

I still refer to him as Chad XD I have hard time pronouncing his real name. I thought his relationship with Rei was sweet. I ship them.

Random fact:
In the Latin American dub he's called Nicholas, yep...with the english pronunciation

Mmm, I don't recall him being foreign. The latin american dub uses all the names from the english version (Serena, Molly, Kelvin/Kevin, Lita, Mina, Amy etc),but I think they changed his name because Nicholas sounds more familiar for Latin american audience (it sounds pretty similar to a hispanic name) than Chad.

Random fact 2: He's called Fernando in Spain (in my opinion, the Spanish version butchered all the characters' names and give them ridiculous ones instead)

Oh Chad er Yuuichirou!! A character I have mixed feelings for because you are cute and add in an interesting dynamic to Rei, and i think help tone down her boy crazyness at the same time... But then I feel like you were just made into a character so Rei could have a love interest, when she should have been the man hating badass that she was in the manga. XD

Chad wins at life. The ultimate buffoon but I love him anyway.

Also the only character in all of Sailor Moon whose dub name I still use. O.o

Don't worry Jupiter you're not alone! He will always be Chad to me. It actually fits him in my opinion.

Thank you! Chad is just so... Unbelievably suiting to him. He sounds like a dumb California surfer with his dubbed voice and for some reason I could never shake that image, paired along with the name of Chad. :p

Yuichiro is a very amazing guy and I just love his personality. I also love that he cares about Rei very much and would do anything to make her happy.
