"Artemis" is a Greek goddess of the moon. The name itself is of unknown origin or etymology.
Gender: Male
Age and Date of Birth: Unknown. In his feline form, Artemis appears to be a young adult cat. In his human form, he looks to be in his late teens or early twenties. He may have been in stasis and not have been reincarnated after the fall of the Silver Millennium. In the live-action, Artemis appears to be a stuffed cat, and he was not shown with a human form. This is distinct from his apparent ages in other canon.

Appearance: Artemis is a short-haired white-furred young adult cat with a lean build. He is approximately the same size as Luna. In the manga and in Crystal, his eyes are emerald green. In the 90s anime, his eyes are navy blue. His most distinguishing feature is the golden crescent moon, rotated so that the tips of the crescent are aligned upwards, on the center of his forehead. This symbolizes his connection with the Moon Kingdom's Princess Serenity, who shares the same mark.

When Artemis takes a human form, he most often appears to be a young man with a trim figure and peach skin. His long, straight, white hair has short, curled bangs that frame his forehead and the crescent moon mark that shines there. On either side of his face there are two strands of hair trimmed roughly to collarbone-length. The rest of his hair reaches his tailbone. He has green eyes. He stands taller than Luna.

His outfit as a human is typically a pair of white slacks and white dress shoes with no laces. He wears a high-collared white top with set-in long sleeves. The top has a cutout around his belly button and forms straps that criss-cross and clip to his pants at thigh height. He wears a necklace with a large pendant of a golden crescent moon and a larger silver crescent moon.

In the live-action, Artemis is a white stuffed animal variation of a cat. His eyes are dark, possibly blue or green. He has a similar crescent moon mark as in his other forms, but he also wears a gold ribbon collar with a crescent moon charm hanging from it.

Personality: Artemis describes himself as "the smart, sensitive tomcat" when he first meets Minako. This is both true and misleading. Artemis is fairly intelligent, demonstrating a variety of skills and knowledge across a variety of subjects. He is extremely resourceful, rarely inconvenienced by his state of being a cat. This is also a source of pride for him—he likes to think that he is particularly interesting and smart, especially compared to other cats, and the "sensitive" side often comes into play when he thinks that someone else is not appreciating his abilities. When his feelings are hurt, he can be particularly sulky. He has a sarcastic, critical sense of humor, and doesn't mind throwing a jab at someone who threw one at him. Sometimes that even ventures into melodramatic tantrum territory. Perhaps that is where Minako learned it from, or perhaps the two of them improve by taking tips from each other.

When Minako and Artemis begin working together, Artemis thinks of the blonde as lazy and carefree—laziness, however, is something he shares in common with her. Artemis would much prefer lounging around with nothing to do but enjoy delicious food and perhaps a video game or two... shocking similar to the hobbies of some of the teenagers he mentors. Artemis will most certainly deny that he likes to relax, but anyone watching him would know that to be true. His sense of humor could be described as somewhat "dad-like"—sometimes he's the only one laughing at his own jokes! He tries to use that goofiness to diffuse situations that might seem too tense, such as distracting Minako from serious, sorrowful thoughts about her mission as a sailor soldier.

He demonstrates bravery, particularly when guiding the sailor soldiers in tactical situations. He may be more quiet than Luna, but the two work well alongside each other. He has no issues with putting himself in a dangerous situation if it may protect or aid someone else, civilian or sailor soldier. He shows his sensitive side in this way, by being caring and willing. He is fairly good at reading the moods of those he is close with, particularly Minako, and knows when to approach her with a willing, sympathetic ear to offer or when to buckle down and continue with the mission.

Artemis loves and admires Luna, who he thinks is as devoted and strong as Princess Serenity herself. He appreciates having her on his side and fighting for the same purpose. The two can bicker, especially in the anime, because they have different styles of tutelage that each prefers with his or her closest ward. His love for Luna is often seen in the way he follows her into any situation and often lets her take the lead in strategy. He rarely expresses this with physical affection or even actual words, perhaps initially due to a fear of rejection, but eventually she comes to reciprocate—and for that, Artemis is truly and deeply thankful.

He hopes to one day see the sailor soldiers able to lay down their task of fighting and enjoy their lives, because he knows how deeply they have earned it. Hopefully he can be by their sides, with Luna and his daughter Diana, retiring as an old, lazy tomcat.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills:
☾ As a cat of Mau origin, Artemis has the ability to remain as a cat or take a more human form. However, he is most commonly seen in his feline form. This may be convenience or habit.
☾ Like Luna, Artemis is capable of creating or storing magical objects that can be given to the sailor soldiers. It is unclear if Artemis is actually creating these things or if he was given them by another entity.
☾ He is shown to have skills with electronic items and technology. He manipulates the Sailor V video game, as well as uses computers and other devices despite being a cat.
 
History: During the Silver Millennium, Artemis joined the court of Queen Serenity. Alongside his partner, Luna, he advised the queen and served as guardian and mentor for the sailor soldiers assigned to protect the Queen's daughter, Princess Serenity. When the kingdom fell to the evil of Queen Beryl and Metallia, Artemis was tasked to find and protect the reborn princess and Silver Crystal. He eventually made his way to Tokyo to perform that task, just in time to notice the seeds of evil settling in among the people of Japan.

Initially, Artemis crosses paths with Minako, who is the reborn Sailor Venus. He awakens her as Sailor V so that they can fight against the Dark Agency. At the same time, he becomes aware of Luna's activities elsewhere in Tokyo, and begins to guide her (using the Sailor V arcade game) without revealing that Sailor Moon might be the Moon Princess. He forms a strong bond with his charge, Minako, and stands by her side as a close friend, almost a brother, throughout the 20th century and into Crystal Tokyo.

In the modern age, Artemis realizes that he has romantic feelings for Luna, but he is unsure that she will reciprocate. He may have loved her for a long time, even during the Silver Millennium. It isn't until their future daughter, Diana, travels back in time from the 30th century, that he realizes he might have a chance after all—and the two cats become closer than ever. He stands by Luna's side even when she seemingly falls for the astronaut, Oozora Kakeru, because he loves her in a way that isn't diminished just because she doesn't return it in that moment.

Other Noteworthy Facts: 
☾ Artemis initially pretended to be a different entity, communicating with Luna through the arcade's Sailor V game, when he was fighting crime with Sailor V and Sailor Moon had just awakened.
☾ In the anime, Artemis has multiple scenes eating with a very tiny fork.

A few more dresses, a blouse, and two skirts flew past, muffled noises as they hit various objects. The girl herself was humming as she ransacked the closet, probably some tune from those annoying Three Lights. He did not particularly enjoy these pop music trends, or perhaps he would have felt differently if she didn't insist on playing the same CD over and over and over...

"Minako."

This time the sweater hit him right in the face, the force of it knocking him off the desk in a flurry of arms and legs, papers and pens, most of it unfinished schoolwork. When he finally untangled himself from the thing, now on the floor, his fur was raised. She hadn't even turned around.

"Mi. Na. Ko!" the tomcat shouted tersely, clearly frustrated.

She turned around after a few more seconds, impervious to the steely gaze fixated on her back. The expression that met his was cheerful and mild, completely unfazed by the scowl on the feline's face. She batted her eyelashes, and he wrinkled his nose at the girl's play-acting. The red ribbon in her hair seemed to mimic the attempt at innocence as she tilted her head.

"Oh, Artemis!" she cooed, as though she'd just noticed his presence. "So there you are!"

"Minako, we were supposed to leave for the shrine fifteen minutes ago!" he pleaded. He could already imagine the darker cat waiting for him with a self-satisfied grin. They had been making a contest to see who could motivate his or her lazy blonde to be on time for the study sessions, and so far Luna was winning! His pride couldn't take much more of this.

"Oh, Artemis, you're overreacting!" Minako laughed, turning back towards her wardrobe. "I juuuuust need to find that one sweater..."

He groaned, lowering his head into his waiting paws. This was a contest he was definitely going to lose.
