Advanced Character Profile: Sailor Roshar
Character Name: Rai
Gender: Female
Age and Date of Birth: 17
Used Canons:SM Manga/Based on the Stormlight Archive series
Appearance: - Rough Civilian Design:
Rai is tan, lean yet muscular, due to her many years of surviving alone and rummaging for food. She has dark brown hair and eyes, making her considered a low class citizen in the most powerful country of the world, Alethkar. Her hair is kept short, usually haphazardly cut with a knife. As Rai, she can usually pass for a boy if need be due to her lack of normal feminine features (be careful though, she might punch you if you point out her flat chest). Normally she wears trousers, travelling boots (nice and worn in to her feet), with a white blouse and vest. She often finds herself wearing a different hat on any given day, usually with unknown origins.
While her body build and skin stay the same as Sailor Roshar, her hair and eye color change. When she transforms her eyes light to the yellow and orange, the yellow being on the left, the orange on the right. Her hair is yellow on the top blending to orange on the bottom. She also had two large orange strips of hair at the sides. The length of her hair stays short with some pieces lengthening to differ in style from her normal cut.
Personality: Spunky, sarcastic and swift are the three words that truly define Rai. Despite her hardships in life, Rai is optimistic and ready to jump in to adventure when the chance arises, new people and places excite her. While she may be sarcastic in her jokes and banter, making friends seems to come natural to her and she can be quite friendly to strangers. Not having a formal education most of Rai’s smarts come from living and surviving on the streets and her experiences travelling around the continent. She doesn’t care so much for scholastics and feels she does fine with her life experience based education.
Rai enjoys eating and trying new dishes, being able to travel in the galaxy greatly expanded her food encyclopedia she keeps mentally. In Alethkar, females typically ate sweeter and lighter dishes while men enjoyed heartier, spicy foods. Rai could care less about these social norms and eats whatever she wants, having more of a fondness for foods eaten traditionally by men.
As Sailor Roshar, she is more serious in her demeanor but will give in to her occasional wisecracks and sarcastic quips. She respects her position and her mission greatly and always feels humbled and honored that she was chosen as a Sailor Guardian.
Rai has a tendency to be rash and make quick decisions based on her excitedness for adventure, which often leads to trouble. She sometimes gets frustrated working in a group when everyone around her is debating and trying to come up with a decision when she feels they should trust their gut. As she travelled around with a merchants group, she’s learned to work better in a group, but often outwardly grumbles and makes it very obvious she’s agitated.

History: The planet Rai hails from, Roshar, is a single continent planet in which vicious and large storms, called High Storms, circle the world and ravish the lands. The storms are powerful enough to lifts boulders throw them about like pebbles. In the country Rai is from, Alethkar, class is decided by eye color, which is seen as odd by other countries. The light-eyes are the noble, ruling class, while dark eyes are the working, lower class. The country is divided into princedoms, only recently united in recent years. The land is constantly in a state of war between uniting the High Princes and now fighting a war of vengeance due to the assassination of its King.
Rai could care less about all this as for most of her early life, it was just a struggle to survive. Rai grew up as a an orphan and that’s okay with her. Her earliest memories are running around the streets of Dalilak, a large port city in northern Alethkar. Living on the streets taught her to be quick and cunning, using her strengths to steal food and escape capture. She has finagled her way out of jail cells many times in her life after being caught stealing. Eventually Rai met up with a man named Mren who was willing to take her in to his traveling merchant crew after he caught her trying to steal from his caravan. Seeing she was only a child of barely 10 years, he felt pity and became a father figure to her. Rai learned much from the Mren as the caravan travelled back and forth between the war camps and various cities and countries delivering supplies and trading exotic goods.
For some reason, Rai always had a little electricity spren (a magical spirit being, native to Roshar), following her. This spren turned out to be Koru, her soon to be guardian. Most spren cannot talk and are fairy like in nature, but as Rai reached her 14th year, Koru began talking and learning more about her and humans. He could keep himself hidden to people and soon he became a friend and confidant for Rai. As the year went on, Koru started to regain memories he had lost. He started talking to Rai about the words she needed to remember and the Stormfather. For a time, she wondered what Koru was going on about. He kept going on about the everstorm, that the dark one was coming, the Desolation and that she had to remember the words in order to be ready. The Desolations were something of myth, at least to her. Old children’s tales parents told their little ones so they behaved properly. And the words? She always brushed him off, all that nonsense had nothing to do with a scraggly orphan.
It wasn’t until the night that Rai found herself caught out in a Highstorm where she finally understood her place in the world. She had been out exploring away from the Mren’s caravan, they had known a storm was coming but had not expected it for a few more hours. Rai had barely found a shelter, a tiny nook she barely fit in under a large rock formation she had been exploring, when the storm wall hit. The wind thrashed and blew across the land and Rai watched, terrified, as debris, even boulders, flew past and crashed all around her. All went black and Rai found herself face to face with a large head of a man with a tired elderly face, complete with wrinkles, sunken eyes and a white beard, yet behind him she could feel a raging storm. In front of her, Koru had appeared, having changed his form in a larger than life fox, an electric current raging across his body. It was in that moment, a spark stirred inside and she knew, knew the words that must be said.
A brilliant bolt of lightning crashed into Rai’s body and she transformed for the first time as Sailor Roshar. Upon her transformation, Koru recalled his memories of the Desolation, of Chaos and of the Sailor War that was making its way across the galaxy. The storm passed and Sailor Roshar knew she had to leave her life behind, for a while, as she headed across the land in pursuit of offshoots of Chaos that she already could feel invading her home.
Unfortunately Chaos’s seed had grown too far and her battle grew tougher and tougher as a few years passed. At 17, Koru felt she was ready as a Sailor Guardian to go to space to pledge her allegiance in the fight against Chaos to Queen Tiamat. Roshar was hesitant to leave her home behind, who would protect the world that despite it’s ugliness held so much beauty and was her home? Koru assured her that the motions were already in place for an ancient order of knights to reappear. They would fight Chao’s minions and the Everstorm that they brought while Roshar was away.
Koru knew the only way to stop Chaos and therefore save Roshar was to defeat Chaos once and for all. He flew into her check and Sailor Roshar grew wings. She bid farewell to her home, vowing to return to protect it and flew off into the unknown in order to find Queen Tiamat of Tuppi Sumati sector.
Her journey was long and difficult as she encountered planets already ravaged and destroyed by Chaos, the Sailor Guardian of that planet having been killed in battle. Each time she discovered one her resolve grew stronger to fight against this decimation of the galaxy. Eventually she met up with Queen Tiamat and her court, thankful to have another soldier in the war.
Soon Sailor Roshar found herself travelling to a new planet alongside one of Queen Tiamat’s court to join in on a summit of Sailor Guardians from across the galaxy. There several girls began falling into a deep asleep and then several into comas. One of from the Tuppi Sumati sector went down, a girl Roshar had gotten friendly with in their travel to this planet. When the dreamwalking Guardian arrived, Roshar watched the events, intrigued by her powers. Entering another person’s dreamworld sounded kind of...fun! Her adventurous side taking precedent, Roshar waited, impatiently, wondering what those in charge would do next.

RP Sample:Sailor Roshar stood, staring at a darkened sky and even darker landscape. Arms crossed, she shifted her weight from one leg to other, shaking her head in annoyance.
“Another one it seems, huh Koru?” she asked to seemingly no one around her. She was alone, the landscape blackened and torn apart. It reminded her of the Shattered Plains on Roshar. She clicked her tongue for a bit, observing the barren land, humming to herself.
“All this space travel has me beat. I want to do something fun! Maybe I can beat back Chaos’s grip a little bit,” she said, grinning.
She could feel the electric current coursing through her body. It had been building up and needed a release. Her Sailor Wings dissipated and spren companion, Koru appeared beside her, sitting on a little storm cloud he had created. Rai always found it a little odd that the spren imitated physics in his shapes even though he was not even really a being of this world, just a visual representation of another. As usual, small crackles of electricity travelled around his body and he even pretended to groom himself. Was that even necessary? She heard Koru sigh through his pretend grooming session.
“Just don’t take too long.”
Rai gave Koru a sly grin, replying, “Oh trust me, you know I’m always up for a quickie.”
And right on cue, explosions roared from the distance and she felt the rock tremble below her feet. A battle was raging and Sailor Roshar was not going to miss out. Digging her heels into the ground, she leapt, flying through the air, feeling the excitement for the battle fill her from deep within.
As she approached, she found a lone warrior, not even a Sailor Guardian, attempting to fight a giant inhuman beast.
“Roshar Lightning!” she roared as she land on the ground in front of the warrior. Lightning formed above the beasts head and crashed down in a blinding, heat searing blast. Roshar grinned as the creature emitted a pain filled cry. It slumped to the ground. Roshar assumed it was either already a week chaos offshoot or the warrior had actually managed to weaken it him or herself.
She turned, unable to keep the continuous grin off her face.
“I hope I didn’t
shock you!” She roared with laughter and took off, wings exploding from her back, leaving the warrior bewildered at what they had just witnessed.
