I have, for many years now, wanted to make a doujinshi about Chibi Usa and Helios. About two months ago I finally took the plunge and got started. The doujinshi is mostly based on the manga, though there might be bits of characterization, such as for the Asteroid Quartet, that are borrowed from the anime. The premise of the story itself (Helios meets Chibi Usa after she's all grown up in the 30th century) is not that original I'm afraid, as variants of it have been done by many other people over the years, but I hope to bring a bit of a fresh twist to this oft told tale towards the end.

I'm writing the script as I draw, so there might be inconsistencies, spelling errors, grammar mistakes and I'm hoping you guys can help me pick them out. I will admit up front, since the 30th century was depicted rather vaguely in the manga I'm making a lot of artistic liberties in this doujin, both in terms of design (which is why the 30th century will look suspiciously like the 21st century :p) and will be employing my own interpretation/opinion on certain things through out the story. I uh, also need a title for this doujinshi. XD;; Keeping in line with the manga's way of naming arcs I'm thinking "The Future Arc" or "The Reunion Arc", but if you guys have any other ideas I'd like to read them.

I'll update this thread periodically as I draw more pages. My Muse is fickle about how long she'll stick to a project, but I really, really hope I'll actually complete this story as it would fulfill one of my dearest held dreams.

Doujinshi is very popular in japan as we all know, and I don't believe there are any lawsuits surrounding the printing and (paid) distribution of the comics over there. I hope you possibly decide to see about offering a hard copy version of this, because I'd definitely be interested in buying!

Doujinshi is so popular, a lot of published manga-ka's have their own websites for them. The creator of Tenchi Muyo makes Doujinshi's apart of his published Tenchi Muyo works but they can't be sold because it is against copyrights and profiting off of other peoples works can enact lawsuits which is sad but it's the law :/

Some people still do it on Deviantart but if anyone plans to sell fanmade products off of licensed works I would research the copyright and talk to some others about how they do it before you sell because it can lead to jail time and I wouldn't want anyone to get in trouble :/

I've made, printed and sold doujinshi/fanbooks for Princess Tutu before, but the PT fandom is much smaller than the Sailor Moon fandom, so there is a higher chances of me getting in trouble with the original copy right holders in this instance. And even though doujinshis are accepted in Japan doesn't mean they're OK in the US. :\

Nevertheless, I want to give it a shot and see how things go. I am thinking about printing this once I have the first chapter completed. In fact, I'm contemplating giving away a few free copies at Fanime (I won't have the time to go to San Jose to get a sales permit) and just make it a fun, "Where's Waldo?" type scavenger hunt if I manage to get the first chapter done at that time.

There is an author named Random House who made a doushini and is trying ti sue Kadansha because they feel they have the right to publish and make profit off of their own Sailor Moon fan work but the difference between fan work and non fan work is the whole profit issue. Those that share a percentage of their profits with the copyright holders don't get sued, those that don't tend to. There are loopholes but animations and books don't get the same advantages as clothes, and other merchandise. It all depends if any of the copyright holders find out and decide to do anything about it :/

On Youtube they typically just removed the Sailor Moon copyrighted work, sometimes they are more strict something they aren't it just depends on if you want to take the risk to avoiding disclaimers that are meant to protect fan-creators from being sued for profiting off of licensed works :/

Which is why I'm thinking if I do print the doujin I'll give away a few copies for free, or at least not for any monetary profit so I don't have any gains, financially, from printing it. I can't give away too many (grad school doesn't pay very well) but at least it'll be fun for people in the fandom to have a hard copy if they really want one. In the mean time at least by sharing the pages online for everyone to see for free I won't get in trouble. XD;;

Oh definitely. free is the only way not to get in trouble, I was only saying that when people try to profit off of other people's works is where the trouble begins. When I first made fanfiction everyone was yelling at me because I didn't write a disclaimer :/

I have a Princess Tutu doujinshi named "Feuer Fest" that I published a couple years ago. The files are on another computer but I can post them if you're interested in seeing them.
