As some of you may have noticed, the other four “Inner” Senshi along with Naru make appearances in the Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon prequel, Codename: Sailor V. Here they are! I got these scans from Miss Dream.

I read V for the first time about two years ago, and I got ridiculously emotional when I saw these. I still do!

I'm only in the middle of the first volume, but I did catch the Usagi and Naru. I definitely did a little double take when I first caught it. Then I smiled and wondered if Minako knew that she was passing a future soldier. I will have to keep my eyes peeled for the other ones!

I about freaked when I saw the girls on sailor V! This is my first time reading the mangas and it was exciting to see those 'easter eggs' if that's what youd like to call them (even though they are easy to spot!).

One thing I wonder about: Sailor V was the precursor to Sailor Moon so I always assumed her series was completed before SM was written. But Usagi and Naru appear so early... how far into the series was Naoko before she realized Sailor Moon was going to takeover as the heroine?

You know, I think it was VERY early on. See, publishers approached Naoko and asked her to expand upon Sailor V by creating more characters and expanding the plot, and somewhere along, Sailor Moon was born.

Sailor V took a backseat to Sailor Moon for years, only being sporadically updated. Eventually, after Stars was finished, Naoko went back and wrapped up the V series.

In other words... V got shafted. :sigh: That sucks for her. Maybe that's why Minako seems so mature in the initial Sailor Moon episodes. Each arc of SM was produced right around the time the manga was released. Since the writers of SM only got a glimpse of Minako, they weren't sure how to write her?

Well, it is its prequel.  But I actually like that fact.  She is foreshadowing what is going to happen later on.

I loved seeing all the senshi cameos! I also couldn't help noticing this one from volume 12:

Those silhouettes look VERY familiar... It looks like everybody is there, even Chibi-Usa and Hotaru! I assume that this means that Naoko Takeuchi had come up with a pretty detailed plot for the soon-to-follow Sailor Moon by this point.

Those poses are all actually from art book pictures. That's so amazing.

Her focus switched from V to Moon right after chapter 1. (One source I read said chapter 2.) She didn't plan an ongoing series but continued it anyway, though due to SM's deadlines, SV perforce had to take a backseat.

@Gallifrey: That is a recycled image from artbook #3. That chapter of Sailor V was released well into the time of the Sailor Saturn storyline. If you study the artwork, character cameos, and other subtle details you can pinpoint which general part of SM was being written during the release of each chapter.

But the characters don't appear simultaneously to their corresponding chapters. For example, contextually, Makoto's cameo leads into her first appearance in the manga (this is just at the time she transfers schools, I believe). Its time of writing however occured at the end of Stars.

So was the image from volume 12 added in the newer edition later on?

No, I recall when I read Sailor V before it was re-released in Japan the first time that the image above was in the original run of Sailor V. I found scanlations a long time ago pre-Miss Dream. Don't forget there has been 3 releases of Sailor V in graphic novel format overall. The first, tankouban, originally 3 volumes, then the shinshoban (condensed to 2 volumes) and then the kanzenban (often called the "perfect" or "complete" edition).

It's just if you go to wikipedia you can find the release dates of the original chapters in the RunRun magazine and you can see they were slowly released over the time period of the SM manga. What Cronus is saying that by the time Naoko wrote in some of the cameos, it was actually well into the SM manga arcs even though in the story they coincide with the events of the SM story like the Makoto example she gave above.

Edit: Ehhh I retract my statement about Wikipedia as a source for the release dates. They just give the dates of the original tankouban releases. I know Miss Dream has scans of many issues of the magazines Sailor Moon and Sailor V were released in, so I believe you can find the original dates there.

I love these cameos. ♥ It's nice to see the two series confirming their intertwined stories with these little references.

It makes me wonder if she ever knew she ran into them before she initially knew they were senshi and started helping/keeping tabs on them from the sidelines? at least in the manga and crystal, anyways

I've read a few fanfics that assume and/or write about that. It's a nice idea~. They're certainly close enough to her, proximity-wise! I figure she would definitely *know* the instant they were each awakened at the very least.

Was it really that far earlier that Takeuchi started Sailor Moon   ? I was pretty surprised by how early some of those appearances were. It almost made me think that they were inserted later, hah.
