| Advanced Character Profile original accepted profile: Mamoru Chiba original accepted profile: King Endymion ~Updating profile to fit new Guidelines and organize AU and Crossover Profiles~ Character Name: Mamoru ChibaGender: MaleAge and Date of Birth: August 3rd; 16/17 (start of series), 20/21 (Stars); 25/26 (Crystal Tokyo Start)Used Canons:Heavy Manga influencesAppearance: | Mamoru can be an imposing figure as he towers over most of the crowd, his gaze forward and unfocused, his complexion flawless, his countenance one that breaks hearts at first glance with its casual perfection; he walks tall and proud, seeming confident in whatever he does, every step he takes is a step taken with purpose, and should his deep blue eyes fall upon you, you can bet their purpose would be to see through you to what your goals were, as though they could peer into your very soul. Combine this with his usual neat-cut attire, and "Intimidating" may well be the best adjective for the beautiful young man.
But those hard looks and critical gazes are reserved only for when he isn't paying attention, or is preoccupied thinking of other things, or suspects the worst of you. For those Mamoru knows and trusts, his impassive walls come down, and that stoic face can be quite expressive -quirking brows, dashing or embarrassed smiles, tender glances, and open, welcoming looks of unabashed trust. Ever since Usako came into his life and started opening him up, rather than an impassive mask, Mamoru's most common appearance is one of calm happiness, animated teasing, or subject embarrassment.
When he was around 18 he got his left ear pierced and occasionally wears either a small silver or golden hoop; other accessories of note are his reading glasses - he doesn't always use them, as, overtime, his eyesight has fixed itself, but, on occasion, he'll bring them out. His hair is black and short, but his bangs are usually a little bouncy and unruly, despite any attempt to make them otherwise.

King Endymion has not aged since he turned 25, and now, as then, he can be an imposing figure. Standing only inches below six feet tall, he towers over most citizens of Crystal Tokyo. With a flawless complexion of creamy skin, a face that breaks hearts at first glance and blue eyes that seem to peer into your soul, intimidation could be his middle name. And indeed, to those whom he is unfamiliar with, or those who cross him, this is all one sees of King Endymion: a tall, perfect man with cruel eyes and black hair.
But if you get closer... you’ll find a mischievous quirk of his eyebrows, a dashing smile, a tender glance and welcoming, accepting expression. Ever since Usako came into his life his most common appearance is one of calm happiness or animated teasing, and after nearly a millennium spent together, much of King Endymion's initial frostiness has worn away, and those judging, cruel eyes are only turned upon those who threaten the hard-won peace they have earned.
Around the Crystal Palace he is often seen wearing a near-white tuxedo, tinted faintly lavender, reminiscent of dawn around the rising sun. With this he wears a white mask nearly identical to the one worn while in the guise of Tuxedo Kamen, and a cape akin to the one he wore as Prince Endymion during the silver millennium in all but color. Various medals are pinned to his jacket and adorn his bowtie, and a very familiar pocket watch hangs from the third button of his white vest. | |
Personality:Generally: Calm, level headed, organized, make and keep plans. Sticks to ideals. Firm, reliable, trustworthy, but can be hard-headed. May seem aloof or withdrawn from a distance. Tries to suppress his own emotions, giving the impression of strength, but has a fragile and nervous side. Tries to avoid confrontation, sometimes feels uncomfortable around others. Very polite, but somehow feels he never fits in. Mamoru's reluctant nature has a lot to do with his being orphaned at such a young age and living within that orphaned environment for so many years, never quite feeling like he had a home or had someone who loved him; sometimes he doubted if he were even lovable. Many insecurities stem from those formative years, including several crises of self, wondering who he is and what he is meant for. When he met Usagi and had been fighting alongside her for a while, these crises of self only multiplied as he felt like he could never match her or be her equal, which often made him question why she wanted him there at all as he felt he brought nothing to the table. He had a hard time seeing his own strengths and his own effect on people, and until he finally listened to Usako and believed in himself, his powers were stunted because of it.Mamoru has been described as Usagi's rock for his unshakable demeanor - unless her direct safety is at stake, Mamoru is always in control of himself, which helps put the situation back on the ground for the people around him. He is dependable and intelligent, making him an asset not only in dangerous situations, but in life in general.- Additional Traits:
Strengths: Independent - Mamoru is independent and works well on his own, especially with projects he has complete control over, but he is much happier with an audience of sorts - just someone to admire and appreciate him and his efforts. He is perfectly capable of being successful without an 'audience,' but is happier to have someone to share his achievements with and works well if someone is looking up to him. He prefers not to be alone, but can act alone.
Patient and Encouraging - When working with others, Mamoru is grants others a good amount of time to attempt an activity before he intervenes; some personalities try his patience more than others, however. He encourages those who struggle, and helps them when he can.
Confident - In everything he does, Mamoru is self-confident, even appearing so when he is not 100% sure of what he is doing. His confidence stems from his constant push to do his best, and if he does his best, that's all he can do and so is satisfied with it. This confidence often inspires confidence in others.
Resourceful, Clever, Analytical - Mamoru is very bright, and can look at situations in a different light to come up with solutions to problems that some might not have even considered yet. He is resourceful, able to look around to see how seemingly unrelated things - objects or ideas - can combine to create the solution to a problem, and analytical, in that he can evaluate different ideas for validity by comparing them to things he has learned or experienced in the past.
Courageous - being independent and confident along with resourceful leads to being courageous - he can step forward when no one else can or wants to in order to face a problem and attempt to solve it. In this, some of the time it is more about getting the problem solved quickly and efficiently than volunteering so others do not have to, but the latter comes in automatically when it involves someone he cares about.
Other traits: Observant, Dependable, Adaptable, Reliable, Responsible, Passionate; easily forgets and forgives, unless the trespass was against a friend;
Weaknesses: Stubborn - when he thinks he has the answer, he will stick to it unless undoubtedly shown he is wrong with evidence that disproves his hypotheses.
Unemotional, seeming Cold, yet Moody - Mamoru oftentimes thinks only with his head, not his heart; he displays the brains more often than his emotions, but when his emotions are hurt, he can and will become moody, shutting himself off from people, and occasionally a little melodramatic by taking things far beyond the reaction they should have gotten as he compounds the reasons behind the actions that did him harm and blows the whole thing out of proportion, as, though he is confident, he does not entirely believe peoples motives when they involve him. He often keeps people at arms length, despite wanting them to be closer.
Somewhat inhibited - Being stubborn and a little hesitant to make the first step socially, he often chooses simply not to attempt in social situations, as opposed to putting himself out there.
Other traits: secretly a little vain, can be pretentious, not all that kind towards criticism (takes it way too personally) Mannerisms: Mamoru has excellent manners; he's articulate and respectful, and often reaches out to people who are in need without expecting anything in return. He has a kind and generous nature. When problems arise, he is direct with solving them, his scientific mindset helping him find the root of the problem... unless it has to do with emotions - especially those of jealousy - until he found a way to work through them. Mamoru strives to be sincere in everything he does. Any Unique Abilities/Skills: | Psychometry (touch-telepathy and Earth-touch location) Limited healing abilities Computer hacker | History: - Spoiler:
Mamoru was orphaned on his sixth birthday. The doctors delivered the news to him after he awoke from his surgery as he lay recovering in his hospital bed from a severe concussion. When they told him of his parents’ deaths, his atypical reaction caused further alarm; shortly thereafter they determined that the damage to his head during the accident had triggered amnesia. As time wore on and he recovered, it became more and more clear that the memory loss would be long term. When it came time to leave the hospital, the doctors and nurses sadly agreed – on that day in early August, Mamoru Chiba lost his parents in more than one way: he would never again see or be with them, nor would he remember anything about them. From friends of the family they retrieved a picture for the young boy to hold on to, to remind him that even though he was alone, it had not always been that way. They hoped it would bolster his spirits, keep him strong and give him a small token of happiness.Unfortunately, the photo had an opposite effect. The boy was moved to an inner-city children’s center in Tokyo, a home for children in similar situations. As the Japanese culture is proud, especially of bloodlines and the expectation for children to take care of their elderly parents, the ‘orphanage’ housed several other children; however, many of these children were still tied to their parents, taken out of their familial homes for being abused or due to the parents’ inability to take care of them, but not many that were true, adoptable orphans. Even in Mamoru’s case, though both of his parents were dead, he was unadoptable as they were unsure of any other familial ties of his that may still survive. Tied by invisible bonds, Mamoru was never taken into a true family. He stayed with people who were caretakers in function only – there was no affection there; they fulfilled their responsibilities, but he never felt protected or loved.School was a miniature oasis for Mamoru: he was intelligent, quick thinking, and athletic. His peers looked up to him for seeming mysterious and studious, as he was oftentimes quiet and stoic, but while he felt more confident in the scholastic atmosphere, this attention and admiration by his peers did nothing to take him out of his shell.Mamoru chose to leave the orphanage at the earliest age possible – 15. He had just graduated from middle school and had been accepted to the district high school, his excellent grades forcing admissions to see past the stigma of being an orphan, or “throwaway child”, and taking a chance on the boy. But even as he was proud of leaving, he had nowhere to go, no one to turn to; he felt very much alone.Though contact with an affable teacher from his middle school, Mamoru was able to secure an apartment, and he worked hard during breaks to work up enough money to afford such his place. At the very beginning of his first year in high school, Mamoru started to notice subtle changes in himself. For instance, minor scrapes and bruises seemed to disappear before they fully formed; overall he found he healed much faster than anyone else. Sometimes he felt like he could almost see other places on Earth… but that second week of his second year really took the cake. He started having a dream – the same dream, over and over again. It was a dream not typical of his norm – there was no darkness, no scream, no overwhelming sense of being alone and unwanted. … it was a voice. A voice calling out to him, a voice filled with love and urgency. “Endymion!” At first it was only that name. A name he did not recognize, called faintly, almost as an echo across a vast space. As the weeks went on he gained more information – the girl was calling for him, begging him to find the Legendary Silver Crystal. At first she only asked he find it; but later she told him it would help him recover his memories. Soon all his waking thoughts were turned one direction – to find the Silver Crystal. He didn’t know where to start, but if it were a crystal he bet that jewelers would know of it.The first jewelry shop he chose to visit almost turned him away at first sight. He was 17, a student, and obviously not of much money; however, this only served to strengthen his resolve – he would find a way. The first step was attire – and what better way to look rich than to wear a tuxedo? Thus he became Tuxedo Mask, the supposed thief. Never had he stolen anything – if he did break in (which was not often) it was only to have a quick look around for anything silver… and crystalline. Nothing more. And so it went – Mamoru Chiba by day, studying hard to make the most of his future; Tuxedo Mask by night, haunting the city for the silver crystal as the Princess haunted his dreams. On one night, when checking out a jewelry store after a surprise sale, he came across a strange sight…And so he met Sailor Moon.Within a few weeks things suddenly came into place. Usagi Tsukino, the cute middle schooler he couldn’t keep away from, was the ‘pretty sailor-suited senshi of love and justice’ Sailor Moon. As she found more and more of her guardians it became apparent that they were searching for the same thing – the Legendary Silver Crystal, he for his memories, they for their lost princess. And it appeared they had found their princess in Sailor Venus… until that day at Tokyo Tower. He had tried to keep her safe. He failed before, but that time he succeeded – in protecting Usako, in finding the princess of his dreams, and in locating the Silver Crystal – but the wounds he sustained were far too great. What he remembers of that night is his victory – that he had saved her for once. There was a bright light, a warm sensation, and suddenly Sailor Moon was the girl from his dreams – he couldn’t be more sure of it. But then the villain returned, and everything went black. There was a great deal he couldn’t remember from that time forward, up until awakening blind to the world amongst what he felt was a huge and terrible battle. Sailor Moon… he instinctively knew she was there, knew she was frightened, and so, in lieu of her senshi whom he could not sense, he supported her as best he could. He encouraged her, telling her what he knew to be true of her, and lent her his strength. She was using the crystal, he knew, and in the end, they triumphed. Only then could he tell her what he felt for her, but years of dismissal and emotional segregation strained his words, and though he could only tell her that he’d been wanting to hold her for forever, he felt she knew what he meant. Finally he was whole, as memories of this life and the past rushed forward into his empty mind, filling those years of blank memory with recollections so rich and vivid they were enough to keep him busy for years. Memories of a kingdom, Elysium, of which he was the crowned prince; memories of his parents there, the King and Queen, and of the court; memories of the castle, the gardens, the temples… memories of his best and dearest friends, the Four Heavenly Kings who were both friends and advisors, mentors and comrades… Kunzite, Nephrite, Zoisite, Jadeite… who had sacrificed their gemstone bodies in the battle to stop the holy blade from killing him. And there, sparkling at the end of his previous life, was her. Princess Serenity, sneaking around in his gardens just to catch a glimpse of him, evading her guardians to spend time with him in his world… their midnight walks in the moonlight, their conversations, her kisses… and then that terrible period wherein Beryl rose to power, convincing even his Shitennou that the Moon Kingdom was spying on the Earth and that we should wage war upon them. He could do nothing to stop her evil, and in the final battle he had died protecting the one he loved most. Serenity... Usako. They had been given a second chance, a new life with both new and old memories to share together. The miracle of their rebirth was incredible, and one that he would be forever thankful for.
It was not too long afterward that their happy lives were interrupted by an unexpected visitor, a pink-haired lonely young lady who also had the name Usagi. Almost immediately Mamoru felt connected and intrigued by the girl, from the strange visions of a crystal palace he received whenever he held her hand, to the all-too-familiar feeling of intense loneliness that surrounded her like a shroud. He took it upon himself to cheer her up and watch out for her – Usako had given him so much love and understanding, and he knew the best thing to do with that gift was to share it with others. He and Chibi-Usa formed a tight bond that eventually led her to share her secrets with him. They discovered who the new enemy, the Black Moon Clan, were, where they came from and what they were after. She revealed why she hunted for the Silver Crystal and Sailor Moon, and he and Usako’s senshi decided to help her, to go into the future to save Crystal Tokyo. It was odd meeting his future self, but from King Endymion they learned even more about what had happened... besides finding out that he was to marry Usako (hooray!) and they would ascend the throne of Earth and eventually produce an heir… Princess Small Lady Serenity, the pink-haired little girl they had been calling Chibi-Usa. In the future their adventures continued – Usako was kidnapped by the leader of the Black Moon Clan, a group of rebels who had been sent to a faraway planet, Nemesis, in exile, but had returned intent upon gaining control of the Silver Crystal under their ‘advisor’, Wise Man. He saved her, brought her back, only to have Chibi-Usa taken from them and brainwashed. There was a gap in his memory then, too, for a while, but when he came-to Chibi-Usa was back to normal, but their new ally, Sailor Pluto, was dead. In the defeat of the Black Moon Clan, little Chibi-Usa gained the power to transform into a pink version of Sailor Moon, the hold on her aging ceased. They defeated the Black Moon clan and returned to the past with a tearful farewell to his future daughter… only to have her return to them with a note, asking them to train her as the protector of the future. :Death Busters :Dead Moon Circus... They made a tough decision… he would go to Harvard. It was something he had always dreamed about – to be accepted into such a prestigious school and be able to study there, his intellect challenged and his mind growing. It was tough to leave Usagi alone, but it would only be for a year, and they would write to each other all the time. Once he was set up, he would take on part-time-jobs so he could phone her every weekend to catch up… and to hear the sound of her voice. There was only one thing to take care of… a promise ring. He had always intended upon marrying her – she was his world, his exact match – but as he stood he didn’t have the means to support them. She was only sixteen, and he hadn’t properly spoken with her father, so at this moment, all he could do was buy an engagement ring and use it as a placeholder for his promise. When he returned, they would get married. He gave her the ring when she came to see him off at the airport. She looked like she was going to cry she was so happy… but that was all he could remember before an intense pain overcame him. After that, he was lost in darkness… until, at last, he reawakened in a bright, shining place where everything seemed to glitter. It was warm and felt safe, comfortable… looking around he saw, to his surprise, Minako. Beyond her, appearing as suddenly as the blonde had, were Rei, Ami, Michiru, Hotaru, Makoto, Setsuna and Haruka. Before anyone could say anything, they received a call for power. It was her. Usako was up there somewhere, asking for their help… and they gave it. When she appeared some time later, after a warm meeting, they discovered that they were within the Galaxy Cauldron, the birthplace of star seeds and sailor crystals, the place where those seeds and crystals returned when they died. They were given a choice then, to remain here, in the cauldron together in eternal peace, to return to their lives and continue living, or to be reborn. He fully supported Usako’s decision to return. She was absolutely right… He proposed to her a few years later, and, just as King Endymion said, they were married when Usako turned 22. Crystal Tokyo was built, and they had their daughter, Princess Small Lady Serenity, and it seemed a happy ending…But when they were in the future, a taboo was broken. Sailor Moon met her future form, Neo-Queen Serenity, and Pluto had warned that it might disrupt the flow of time. They had already witnessed this disruption once – Chibi-Usa told them stories of Sailor Moon’s ‘Ultimate’ form, her Super Sailor Moon incarnation, but when they defeated Nehelenia, Usako turned into Eternal Sailor Moon. That should have been her ultimate form; it should have been the chalice that Chibi-Usa remembered, not the grail; the eternal fuku, not the super. And then there were the outer senshi – Chibi-Usa had no recollection of them, either Uranus, Neptune or Saturn, and while they could have been posted on their respective planets for quite some time, he doubted that they wouldn’t visit within the 900+ years of Chibi-Usa’s existence. Perhaps, in the timeline of Chibi-Usa’s mother, the outer senshi never awakened. Perhaps Beryl was followed with another incarnation of chaos that made them seek the grail, but afterwards their lives had been peaceful up until the Black Moon Clan’s invasion. Or perhaps the future that Chibi-Usa hailed from underwent changes along with Chibi-Usa’s development as the present came across new villains… for he knew now to be on the lookout for the Black Moon clan, and he was sure that they would find a new solution entirely for the exiles as to eliminate the problem before it had a chance to happen. Time was confusing; if they already knew of the Black Moon clan and did something to advert that happening, Chibi-Usa never would have visited the past, which would create major changes in their own timeline and they wouldn’t remember to stop the Black Moon in the first place. Perhaps it was their destiny to let the Black Moon Clan come… Perhaps he should leave this line of thinking to Sailor Pluto and focus on this life.Their future had already changed, and so they had no idea what it would hold. But together, they would face it.
In the years since ascending the throne of Earth after marrying his soul mate, King Endymion has lead a comparatively easy life. Bringing all countries under one Kingdom was nothing compared to Beryl; figuring out treaties to compensate regions for sending food to areas where food was scares was easy, next to facing off against Queen Nehelenia. Typical troubles that royal houses face paled in comparison to their past, and everything they had gone through up until that point seemed, in some strange way, to utterly prepare them for their roles as rulers. They had help, of course; without it Crystal Tokyo would never have come off the ground, but with all they had accomplished in the past...The future was like a well deserved retirement. One filled with frustrations and problems, treaties and state dinners, nervous moments and sorrow, but also filled with happiness unlike Endymion thought he had ever deserved. Usako, now Neo Queen Serenity, completed him perfectly; she uplifted him when he felt down, he kept her grounded when she lost sight - every day he fell in love with her over and over again. Small Lady had his heart before she was even born, and having learned of their mistakes before they could even make them made him the father that she deserved; despite the gut-wrenching knowledge that using what they had learned in the past where Chibi-Usa had been concerned changed the very future they lived in, he could not bare to knowingly put her through the isolation she had felt that led up to her taking the Silver Crystal and fleeing to the past. Just as he and Usako knew sending that prisoner to Planet X wasn't the right path, despite their past-future selves having done it.They knew pieces of their future from their past, and despite the trepidation of leaving the path set out before them, they did it. They took the steps they knew to be right for them, not for past-future them - they would make new mistakes, that was certain, but they would not repeat mistakes that they knew to be wrong, that now felt wrong, to appease what they knew of that timeline. And so far, everything had turned out fine. Pluto spoke of how time was fluid and ever-changing, how every action made could spout off an entirely new timeline, but after a thousand years and everything so far going so right, Endymion was past caring how his actions affected his new future. He had Serenity, and he had Small Lady, and they had their friends: they could face whatever came to them. Other Noteworthy Facts: Mamoru is connected to his past self more than any other senshi other than, perhaps, Saturn. It appears he remembers more about his time as Prince Endymion of Earth than he reveals, and often seeks advice from his four guardians, the Shitennou, in the form of their guardian stones, which hekeeps in a glass case in his apartment. His favorite food is chocolate, his favorite color is black, his favorite school subject is physics. Storyline Specific Information:

History Tweaks: When the Silver Millennium fell, Endymion was unable to protect Serenity, and watched helplessly as she died. Heartbroken and wishing with all his soul that Serenity's life had been devoid of worries about their two kingdoms, when Queen Serenity sealed Metallia away and wished for everyone to get another chance at life, the Silver Crystal recognized not only her wish, but Endymion's as well. Reborn into the 20th century as Chiba Mamoru, he found his soulmate in Usagi Tsukino, but, while they had found each other again, they were unaware of their past-life connection, having never awakened through the return of Metallia. Together they lead fairly normal lives as a crime-fighting high school couple, using unique powers granted to them through who-knew-what or -why. They are happy, and they are in love... and they have no idea what awaits them. When Usagi dies in a tragic accident, Mamoru makes another fate-altering wish: that he could have saved her. The wish grants itself by sending him back in time; upon this revelation, Mamoru vows to change Usagi's fate, and give her the life she deserves. ...What he doesn't know is that he could never give that to her, for in changing the recent past, he has sealed her into her future. As he tries again and again to save her life, he gets farther and farther from his wish; eventually the past will uncover itself, and he realizes what he has to do in order to give her her best chance... Personality: Mamoru has a more open personality in this timeline as he has spent more time with Usako without having to bundle his dealings with her into his emotions and complicated history with the Dark Kingdom and her being "Sailor Moon" - he hasn't had any crises with her as they are on equal footing from the beginning, without her being the most powerful senshi and him being "just" him. History: In this AU, not a lot has changed for Mamoru's early history except that he chose his transformation this time. He is still an orphan, still grew up mostly alone and without a family, and now as a high school student still lives alone. He transformed for the first time not in an attempt to find the Silver Crystal, but instead during a mugging incident wherein a woman was cornered in an alleyway and the perpetrator had an illegal gun on them; as he rushed in to help the woman, he transformed without really realizing it, and disarmed the robber and held him long enough for the woman to go get help. Once he mastered the art of his transformation, he became a vigilante, hiding behind a mask and enjoying being able to help people when the police could not, despite the danger and the risk. All he needed were the silent looks of relief on the victim's faces, and he knew he was doing the right thing. Eventually he ran into Moon Twilight, and they eventually started working together to protect the city as a team. Inevitably their secret identities were found out, and he was surprised to learn that she was a girl at his own school (who was clumsy and loud and argumentative and always at the wrong place at the wrong time when it came to him doing embarrassing things, and vice versa, and whom he refused to admit he liked (out loud anyway) or had any effect on him (besides those butterflies and heightened pulse and being unable to resist looking at her out of the corner of his eye)). Long story short, he finally worked up the nerve to ask her out on a proper date, and they've been together ever since, both as girlfriend and boyfriend and in fighting crime. Senshi Fuku: Tuxedo Kamen / Tuxedo Mask’s outfit is self-explanatory. Just as a ‘Sailor’ senshi wears a sailor collar and bows, Tuxedo Mask wears a Tuxedo… and a mask… with the occasional top hat. His Tuxedo is the classic black and white ensemble: black trousers, shoes, cummerbund and coat with golden buttons; white pleated and wing-tailed shirt with clear buttons, occasionally worn under a white vest. His bow-tie is white, but the accenting collar is a deep red, the same shade as the lining on his long cape. His mask is white and stylized. The only possible sign of his possession of the Earth star seed and the guardianship of the sun is the star-shaped pendant always present on his person. Whether worn as a charm at his throat or a pendant on his chest, the metallic symbol shows his heritage.
On occasion, Mamoru may transform into his Princely attire from his previous life during the Silver Millennium; this seems to grant him a greater connection to the Golden Crystal, and its abilities to help guide and support the Silver Crystal.
In the future, Mamoru takes on the guise of King Endymion, and from that point forward he is unable to assume either his Prince Endymion form or his Tuxedo Mask form, as King Endymion is his most powerful form, being truly awakened as King and able to fully access the Golden Crystals powers. His attire consists of a white tuxedo dyed faintly lavendar with elaborate bordering on his jacket. Powers: Golden Crystal - can release immense power Golden Crystal Healing Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber
Weapons or Magical Items: Golden Crystal Rose (occasionally) Cane/Sword (occasionally) Golden Crystal Staff/Sword (King Endymion only)

Something heavy lay across his chest. Something concrete, large, but not quite crushing. Tuxedo Mask coughed, dust and debris aggravating his throat, his mouth dry and covered by a thick layer of dirt. He almost swallowed but thought better of the idea. His ears rang annoyingly, a high pitched whine that didn’t indicate it would cease any time soon. What happened? He shook his gloved hand, hoping to dislodge any grime found there, and wiped at his eyes to clear any irritable particles away. Well, the mask was lost, but what else is new?
Cautiously he blinked his eyes open, staring straight up from his pinned position. He coughed again, otherwise staying as quiet and as still as possible. There, hovering above him impossibly, was the hull of the spaceship. Leaning his head back as far as he could, fighting another cough, he looked around through a gap in the rubble, only then realizing the extent of the damage done to the city of Tokyo. The skyline, heck, the groundline was changed irreparably. Buildings around for hundreds of feet had toppled. … the people, what had happened to the people? He looked around again, but in every direction it was the same. What once had been tall buildings, skyscrapers and stores, was now nothing but piles of rubble. The attack… Usako!
He struggled against the concrete block, but was utterly pinned. The ringing in his ears began to die down, and taking its place was eerie silence, broken by a strange scanning noise. A ping that echoed. Something moved above him. Keeping a sharp eye on the ship, he saw a bay open and this… claw, like from a crane game in the arcade, reached out and shot down towards him. It veered off his course and he heard the ping again. It landed hard to his left and he heard a gasping cry.
Quickly the clawed arm shot back towards the ship. Horrified, Tuxedo Mask yelled, “Sailor Mars!” his arm reaching out towards her even though he knew there was no hope of catching her. The unconscious form of the senshi of passion and fire, grasped within the metallic arm, retreated quickly into the ship, her long black hair pulled by the breeze.
Then she was gone, disappearing into the darkness.
No. No, this wasn’t right. He fought against the concrete block, trying to slide his way out from underneath it. How long had he been unconscious!? Who else had it taken?
He heard it again, the ping. It was probably a method of echolocation, but what was it honing in on? Living bodies? Again the claw emerged, this time landing somewhere below his feet and emerging with Sailor Mercury. “Mercury!” he yelled, but she, too, appeared to be unconscious. He tried harder to get free.
It emerged again.
This time, it seemed to be heading straight for him. … but at the last second, as he braced for impact, it turned slightly to the side, crashing into the concrete beside him. He followed its descent until the explosion of debris and dust, but he had seen it. There, all along, was Usako. Her blonde hair the only part visible beyond the mountain of rock, hair that he had only noticed now in the reflection of sunlight off of the claw. “USAKO!” he cried, fighting. The claw closed. “USAKO!!” It started to rise. There she was, cradled within it, her eyes closed and body limp, her wings tattered, torn, and broken. “No!” he cried defiantly, pushing with all of his strength against his barrier, kicking his dress shoes against the rock as he fought to gain purchase, to be free before it was too late. His knee scraped painfully against the rock, but it was nothing to him. “Usako!”
One arm draped poetically through a gap in the claw, as if she were reaching out for him.
“Usako…” she was too far away now. Her pigtails fluttered, the last he saw of her before she disappeared. “Damn it!” he cursed hopelessly, his heart beating quickly, painfully, as it felt like it was breaking. He couldn’t help her – he was awake, he was willing, but still he couldn’t help her! What was the use of having a crystal if he couldn’t wield it as a senshi could?! He couldn’t save her. “Damn it!” he cried again, coughing fitfully as he felt tears forming in his eyes.
