Appearance: The most iconic and recognizable part of Michiru is her long wavy aquamarine hair. Her eyes are also aquamarine. She stands at about 5’4” or 163 cm. Michiru’s clothing style is elegant and feminine and she often prefers to wear dresses and blouses.

Personality: Michiru is portrayed as cool and calm just like the sea. She is the most elegant and graceful of all the girls. She is able to exhibit more maturity, aloofness, and ruthlessness when the situation deems necessary. Michiru is often seen as a polite and ladylike woman. She has an aura of sophistication about her. Though she will never admit it and makes her perfection appears effortless, her flawless image is very important to her. While Michiru has no problem being congenial, she also has little interest in socializing outside of Haruka for the most part.

Michiru is also a very artistic person. She is a skilled painter, and she’s also a musical virtuoso. Her musical instrument of choice is the violin, and she’s so excellent at it that she’s become a famous violinist by the time she was in high school. Being a violinist was her dream before the whole world changed and the Kaiju started appearing.

Michiru is also very adept at using her tongue to get people (mostly Haruka) flustered. She has this ability to play with words that would often leave her looking like someone who’s made an innocent comment yet the words have deeply burrowed into her target’s mind. She also uses her charm the way Haruka does; to flirt with men sometimes, though not as often as Haruka flirts with girls. Mostly she just does it to rile up Haruka because it amuses her.

Michiru shares a deep bond with Haruka. The two of them are extremely close and have a loving relationship. Haruka is the person that is closest to Michiru and, likely the only person she lets inside to get to know the real her, as Michiru doesn’t have a naturally open personality. It is for Haruka that she has started her journey to save the world.

Being a pilot of a Jaeger was mostly Haruka’s dream, but when she thought about waiting at home for the news of Haruka’s demise, and how someone else would share a deep bond with Haruka, knowing every corner of her mind and memory, Michiru decided this was unacceptable. To hell with that; if Haruka wanted to save the world, then Michiru was going to be her partner, because nobody else knew or worked better with Haruka than herself. She was going to make sure Haruka survived by being there in the front lines with her, and if she should fail, then they could at least die together.

Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Aside from being a very skilled painter and violinist, Michiru is also a really good swimmer.
 
History: Michiru grew up in a privileged family, and her parents always gave her anything she wanted. She was a musical prodigy and her artistic talents were obvious even since she was young. Her childhood was fairly happy and normal. Though her parents had always expected excellence from her, Michiru had never had any difficulty in meeting it. In high school, she met Haruka Tenoh and fell in love for the first—and most likely last—time. They grew close and soon became inseparable. Michiru felt as if her life could not be more perfect.

And then, of course, it all fell apart.

Around the time of high school graduation, the first Kaiju appeared and ravaged San Francisco in the US, changing the world forever. Fortunately, Japan was easily the most prepared country when it came to creating the Jaegers. Not only because of their advanced technology, but because it was already part of their popular culture. Naturally, Haruka became one of those people who really admired the Rangers and who wanted to become one herself someday. She would often speak to Michiru about it; how good it must feel to be able to be strong and save the world, but all Michiru could picture when she imagined Haruka in that pilot seat was death.

They went into the same university, and one day a recruiter from the Japanese branch of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps came to test a bunch of students to see if they had potentials in becoming a Ranger. Haruka and Michiru were among those chosen. Michiru did not want to participate and tried to talk Haruka into declining as well, but Haruka’s excitement and confusion at her reluctance wore down Michiru’s defense. This was clearly something Haruka felt strongly about, and Michiru eventually decided not to stand in the way of her happiness.

Both of them got high marks, of course. The recruiter invited them to join the PPDC as new trainees and train in the Tokyo Shatterdome, and Haruka didn’t even have to think twice about saying yes. When she asked if Michiru would come with her, Michiru could only smile and nod.

Because what else was she supposed to do? Let Haruka go alone and die?

Storyline Specific Information:
[Advanced] Concordia - Five years ago, colossal monsters identified as Kaiju have risen from an interdimensional rift in a crevice beneath the Pacific Ocean, resulting in a war that takes millions of lives and quickly consumes humanity's resources.

Following the first four Kaiju attacks in San Francisco, Manila, Cabo and Sydney, a conference between all leaders of the world was called. The meeting resulted in the idea of to combat the monsters, by designing a special type of weapon; massive mechs known as Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge (it was discovered during early trials that the mental strain of controlling a Jaeger alone would overwhelm a single pilot).  

The Pan Pacific Defense Corps was founded sometime later by the United Nations. The Defense Corps represents an international alliance of twenty-one countries across the Pacific Rim, bound together by the shared goal of containing, combating and eliminating the Kaiju with the Jaeger Program.

This year, a new group of trainee pilots (also called Rangers) are starting their training in the Tokyo Shatterdome, and must learn to work together with each other as well as finding their ‘other half’ if they ever hope to become a real Ranger.

Michiru knew what she would find when she read the paper telling her of her test results, and what Haruka’s would say, as well. You have shown a high aptitude for becoming a Ranger. Given your potential, we would like to invite you to join our training program at the Tokyo Shatterdome.

This was the first step, Michiru knew.

The first step towards certain death. She had never wanted the glory, or even the desire to save the world. Maybe she was selfish, but all she wanted was to be happy with Haruka and leave the fighting to other people. Why did it have to be them? Why did they have to take this huge risk when they had something worth so much more?

Then again, it wasn’t as if death wasn’t going to happen regardless of where she were. As civilians, she and Haruka could still easily die in the next Kaiju rampage. Everything felt so temporary in this monster ravaged world, after all. Could she still continue living her happily ever after, pretending they weren’t living in a war-torn world?

At least in a Jaeger, they would not be helpless. They would go down fighting. That was what Haruka always said.

Maybe that was what she was supposed to do. To fight for what she and Haruka had, she had to protect the world they both lived in.

[Relaxed] The Choosing: After World War IV, the countries of China, Japan, North and South Korea joined together to create one nation: New Asia. It would be ruled by one monarchy and a committee of ambassadors. The civilians would be split based on their occupations and incomes. This split became known as the castes. The citizens of New Asia were torn on whether they liked the castes or whether they didn't (the wealthy liked it, the poor didn't). Rebels began to assemble, some in the North, and some in the South. This is the way New Asia is run.

It is tradition in New Asia for the country's crowned prince to host a process known as The Choosing when he became of age. The Choosing is a method in which all young ladies between the ages of 16 and 18 living in New Asia would enter their name into the lottery pool. Randomly, 35 ladies would be Chosen and sent to live in the New Asian palace for The Choosing to officially begin. Over the course of the next several months, the Chosen ladies would compete for the prince's heart. As he gets to know each lady more and more, the prince would send those who he did not want as his wife back home. The process continues until there is one girl left, and she becomes the next princess of New Asia.

The Choosing had been tradition for centuries, but now times are changing. Rebels are more ruthless and restless. Foreign allies are being strained. The economy is crashing, and there doesn't seem to be any way to fix it.

It is the year 2670, and Crown Prince Endymion of New Asia has finally come of age. It is time for The Choosing to begin.

Additional Information: As a Five, Michiru’s life was modest all her life. Her family only got by because she was so talented at music and was constantly sought after to perform in parties thrown by richer people. It was with this money that Michiru helped keep her family afloat. Thankfully, she had no other siblings, which meant there were less mouths to feed.

Despite being technically poor, Michiru could easily blend in among Twos or Threes because of her natural grace and elegance. She’d spent so much time around rich people that she’d started picking up on how they behaved and knew best how to entertain and enchant them with her manners. She spent her life observing them so much that she could pull off being one of them easily enough.

Like any other girls her age, her parents encouraged her to put her name into the pool for The Choosing, and for Michiru, it wasn’t winning the love of the prince that she dreamed of. It was getting to live as a princess and getting her status elevated. Even if she didn’t become the one chosen, if she could just make it to the final ten as one of the Elites, her status would be elevated to a Two. Just being in The Choosing itself would make her at least a Three. It would help her and her family immensely.

So she put her name, and when the chosen girls were announced, she was one of them. Michiru’s plan was going along very nicely.

RP Sample: When the television announcer called out her name, Michiru could not believe it. The chances were very slim that a Five would make it, but the hours she spent on making sure she looked perfect for the picture taken for the application form must have paid off. Her parents had immediately cheered in utter joy, and Michiru smiled as she watched their happy faces. She was going to make them proud.

Thoughts of the castle and all of its luxury made her feel as if she were floating. At last, she was going to become one of the people she had envied all her life. She knew she truly belonged there, among all of them. Even if she didn’t win, even if she didn’t become a princess… she would be able to bring even more money for her family and gain a new status. She had no interest whatsoever on the prince himself, and should he happen to be interested in her, well… she didn’t know what she would do yet. Maybe she’d steer his heart elsewhere. But if he insisted on making her the princess… maybe that wouldn’t be so bad either.
