| CHARACTER NAME Merumo Chifuku (Japanese 地福 夢萌)NAME SIGNIFICANCE “dream sprout” + “earth’s fortune”NICKNAME(S) MeruGENDER FemaleAGE/DOB 15/September 17USED CANONS MangaAPPEARANCE Merumo is a girl with rather unruly caramel brown locks that fall to the middle of her back in a tangle of curls. Her skin is lightly sunkissed as she spends a great deal outdoors; her face is also lightly spattered with freckles, particularly on her nose and over her cheeks. Her eyes are an earthy coffee hue with a café noir-colored starburst around her pupils. She’s always found her eyes to be particularly bland and has often wished that they were hazel or green instead. Standing at 5’3”, Merumo doesn’t exactly stand out in any way, but has a tendency to blend in. An active girl (though not as active as some), Merumo has a svelte figure with light, lean muscles. When she is not in her school uniform, Merumo prefers to dress in a shabby-chic sort of fashion (similar to mori style/natural kei). Her fashion sense isn’t exactly to her mother’s wishes, but her mother figures that at least she’ll wear dresses and skirts ungrudgingly. PERSONALITY Merumo is a girl blessed (or some might argue, cursed) with an analytical eye. Like her father, she prefers fact over fiction and doesn’t often run away with fancy notions. She’s practical and levelheaded, believing that there is always a logical explanation for everything. Her pragmatic character often results in others being rather disenchanted with her as she has a tendency to squash the magic out of any mysterious notion. She loves a good mystery and solving the mystery, bringing the true science to light, is one of her favorite things. However, opposite to her typical thoughts, she is simply enchanted by nature. The science behind it all simply fascinates her more. Aside from this dominant trait, Merumo is a sweet girl albeit a little awkward due to her frank nature. Having an analytical eye enables her to have a deeper insight to things as she often has a tendency to simply watch people. She likes to study the behaviors of others and thus gains a keen understanding about a person without ever having to interact with them. However, this isn’t to say that she’s antisocial or a recluse; she has several friends at her school and is quite social, but she is a natural introvert and does prefer to have time to herself out in nature.UNIQUE SKILLS/ABILITIES Unbeknownst to Merumo, she is sensitive to whatever planets’ health she’s currently on, and deeply affected by the planet Cel’s health no matter where she is. She has recently discovered that she has prophetic dreams and visions that often forewarn her of danger. It took her a considerable amount of time to start to trust these dreams/visions of hers, but now she accepts them without doubt.
HISTORY Merumo and her family moved immigrated to the planet Cel when Merumo was two years old. The Chifuku family could chart their origins all the way back to a small farming town in the Toyama Prefecture of Japan on Earth. But as the Sun expanded, along with the rest of Earth’s population, the Chifuku family progressed deeper into the solar system until they settled on Pluto for a few generations. The discovery and colonization of the “New Earth”, as some called it, brought the Chifuku family to Cel. Originally a family of farmers, the Chifuku family felt a deep tie to the earth and nature. Merumo’s father was a biologist and Merumo’s mother a primary school teacher. Both occupations were in demand on the new planet.A rural and still rather wild planet, Cel is a planet largely composed of vast mountain ranges and deep valleys. As a result of its being so new and largely unsettled, Merumo spent much of her time in nature. She would often go on treks with her father near their homestead and help document the different species of animals they saw. She attended primary school at the school in which her mother taught and has only recently started her first year at secondary school, but rather than receiving her education on Cel, her parents had her sent to the colony on Tiv, Cel’s moon. With such a voracious mind for science, Merumo’s parents thought it would be best to send Merumo to the academy on Tiv, which had an impressive STEM program. Merumo didn’t particularly like the idea of leaving her family and home, but agreed despite her reservations.It was just after coming to Tiv that she began to have the dream. It was of a woman, but Merumo couldn’t see her face, only her silhouette. The woman was begging for help, saying, “Find them! Help me find them! Find the crystals before it’s too late!” All the while the light against the woman’s back grew brighter and fiery. Just when it seemed like the fiery light was about to consume the mysterious woman, Merumo would wake up. When she first had the dream Merumo simply dismissed it, but the dream happened again, and again. Soon, the girl found that she couldn’t ignore it. The trouble was that Merumo had no idea what crystals the woman was asking her to find.As of late, Merumo has been spending a majority of her time in the academy library, researching crystals.
