Relaxed Character Profile
Character Name: Rei Hino
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Character Image: Storyline Specific Information: Queen of Discord: Rei has always known she’s different, but she never realized how much. In this storyline, she is a demigod, the daughter of Mars. She makes her way to Camp Half-Blood and is told of her divine heritage. Before she can even get settled and think much about her new identity, a new threat is about to topple Mount Olympus. The goddess Eris has gained a huge amount of power from an unknown source, and is slowly knocking the weather and nature out of balance, and out of the gods' control. Soon the world will fall prey to endless stroms and natural disasters. Rei is among those selected by the Oracle to go on a quest to find the Apple of Discord, in hopes of removing Eris from power. But can they stand up to the goddess of Chaos herself and the forces she commands?
Additional Information: History: Rei’s mother, Risa Hino, met Mars in disguise when she was young. Risa was a political activist trying to make the world a better place. She was an idealist, stubborn, and determined. Her fierce personality attracted Mars, who was backing a politician trying to convince the masses that the country needed to start a war against a neighboring one because they were deemed dangerous. But Risa was part of a demonstration that advocated for peace instead, and her speeches and the way she delivered them so passionately made Mars forgot all about the war he was trying to help start.
He fell in love with her instead.
Rei was born just a year later, and Risa found out who Mars really was shortly before she was born. He was reluctant to leave her, especially now that there was a daughter on the way, but he knew he couldn’t be a part of that child’s life. But Risa herself had health issues that made the pregnancy difficult enough as it was to carry to term, and when she gave birth to Rei, she died. Mars was there, cradling both mother and child in his arms, devastated for what seemed like the first time in his life. He didn’t know what to view the child as; a blessing, or a curse that had taken the woman he loved away from him.
He went to the shrine where Risa’s father lived with the baby. He told the old man only that it was his daughter’s baby, and that he was the father, but for one reason or another he could not be around. He asked Rei’s grandfather to take care of her. The old man looked at him critically, perhaps one of the few mortals who could vaguely intimidate Mars, because though the god had not told him who he really was, Rei’s grandfather seemed to know. There was a knowing glint in his eyes that said he knew more than what would be expected from an old man like him.
He took Rei in without question, and that was the end of Mars’ presence in Rei’s life. He did send his sons—Phobos and Deimos—to assume crow forms and watch over Rei in the shrine. As Rei grew up, she began noticing the crows, and for some reason she always felt both a kinship with them and an annoyance toward them. There was something in their beady, watchful eyes that she didn’t trust.
Rei never knew who her father was because all her grandfather had told her was that he was someone who couldn’t handle having a child and bolted as soon as he could. Rei wanted to resent him, but at times it was difficult because she didn’t even know him. Throughout her life, she noticed a lot of uncommon occurrences and had always been attuned to the supernatural world. She knew since she was young that gods and monsters and spirits existed, and that sometimes she felt really out of place in her world. Her anxiety—the ADHD nature of every demigod—and dyslexia didn’t help, either.
But it wasn’t until she faced her first real monster that she began to find the truth. At the time, she had successfully fought off the gorgon that appeared in her shrine with a makeshift weapon that happened to be lying around. It was odd; the moment she touched it, she seemed to know exactly what to do with it and how to wield it effectively. Fighting seemed to be in her blood; it gave her a rush of adrenaline that made her feel more alive than ever. She still didn’t know what was going on, until her prophetic dreams became more vivid and she kept seeing a place somewhere called Camp Half Blood. She thought she saw someone there calling for her… someone who eerily felt like family. She woke up with more questions than answers, but at least now she had a destination. Somewhere to start looking for those answers.
Personality: Rei is serious, sometimes cold, and practical, but she also has a fiery side. In general she is distrustful people, especially men, due to being abandoned by her father early on. Rei is also someone who is never shy about voicing her disapprovals and tend to have a sharp tongue. Sometimes she has no patience to deal with weaknesses and incompetent people bring out her short temper. She is definitely a dominant person and will not hesitate to fight, making her a brave, capable, and dangerous soldier. In general Rei is someone who doesn’t like to ask for help or rely on anyone else other than herself, and she will need to learn to trust her new teammates and friends.

RP Sample: The crows were here again.
Did they not have their own home or something? Rei watched them from her window, and she could swear they were staring back at her. What did they want? Food? She wasn’t their keeper. And if they were going to stalk her, they could at least be a bit subtler.
Annoyed, she walked to the front door and stepped outside. Pretending to not even see them, she grabbed her broom and headed to the front yard, where they were perched on wooden posts, still following her with their beady eyes.
Rei started sweeping. Aggressively.
Dust billowed up all over the crows, who immediately squawked in protest.
She kept sweeping, throwing up more and more dust onto the jet black birds’ feathers. They finally flew away to avoid the assault, still squawking in annoyance.
Rei continued sweeping, a small smile forming on her lips.
Demigod Information
Divine Parent's Name: Mars
Magical Equipment/Weapons:Flaming Bow & Arrows: A gift from Mars, when he realizes Rei’s love for archery. When not used they take the appearance of ordinary wooden bow and arrows.
Imperial Gold Spear: A weapon of choice she picked up at camp for close combat situations. It reflects her father’s weapon of choice as well (not that she would ever admit that - she just happens to like spears, okay?)
Skills and Inherited Powers:
Fury: When she feels particularly furious, she gets a speed and strength boost that allows her to quickly decimate monsters in the immediate vicinity. The usage of this ability drains her considerably afterwards.
Flames of War: Rei has minor control over flames and can generate projectiles made of fire or manipulate small flames.
Sixth Sense: Because she works as a priestess, she is more attuned to the Mist and the supernatural things going on behind its veil. She can sense incoming evil to some degree, occasionally receives more vivid dream visions, and has the ability to perform fire readings.
Spirit Communication: Taking her sixth sense even further, Rei can actually communicate with spirits of soldiers who have fallen in battle. She can ask them to do things and if necessary even serve as reinforcements in battle. However, spirit soldiers are more easily taken down than the living ones.
Weapons Mastery: Rei can easily master any weapon that she touches in a short amount of time, allowing her to fight decently with virtually any kind of weapon that happens to be around.
Achilles Heel:
Pride - Rei’s greatest flaw is that she
needs to be the best and would never ask for anyone’s help in anything. She’d sooner die facing a monster than yelling for help, and she sure as hell isn’t going to pray to her father to ask for a divine intervention even if she’s dying. She cannot quite overcome this pride and her insistence on not depending on anyone, and one day it might be her downfall.
