I mean, if I were in the position of Guardian to the Princess then I would see it as my path in life and wouldn't see the need to continue in a fruitless pursuit of a career in the "real world". Or do you think she is "keeping her options open"?

I think it's just in her nature to study. It wouldn't be Ami if she didn't study like she does.

There are people who are just crazy about learning more and more and studying more and more... I'm kinda like that sometimes, curious about everything and thinking you never can know too much about the world surrounding you.

Ami surely is like that and I really do understand why it is a need for her to keep on studying, especially since she has good grades to keep her motivated.

Also, people like her feel useful to people around them, they are able to help others because they know something special some other people don't. When you are smart since you were really young, people kinda relly on you and they know they can count on you when they need help.

I really don't see why Ami would stop studying since it's a passion to her. No matter what occupations she may have aside of it, nothing would stop her from doing what she likes and she will always find the time to study somehow.

Yeah, I think it's just because she enjoyed learning, and having an education can only benefit your life and the lives of those around you. Especially when physics, biology, mathematics and chemistry show up in sailor moon battles almost as often as physical battles. Pharoh 90, a devourer of energy though a dimensional rift between Earth and the Tau nebula whose minions often use high-end technology... yeah, without super-smart Ami there, I doubt those EIGHTH GRADERS would have gotten all that far in the understanding-wtf-is-going-on department. ^^

One other thing, I think it's from the end of the Sailor V manga, but there is an image of all the girls on the Moon Kingdom and Mercury is holding a bunch of books. I think in her past life she probably was very intelligent and was Serenity's tutor. I think some of those aspects probably rolled over into her present form (in probably a bigger way lol).

I wonder if she would be on the path if her powers involved healing, as usagi's do? Gaining knowledge seems to be ingrained, but I totally forgot about her wanting to be a doctor like her mom. A pediatritian, too, right? I still think it makes sense - in the future, wouldn't you want to oversee the health problems of your friends, especially if three of them were to be the rulers of the planet? ... Even if mamoru wants to be a doctor, too.

I feel like she enjoyed studying and learning very much, if she had stopped and her test scores, grades, ect. plummeted people would question why so I think it's a little of both.

Considering how much damage someone can take during a laser-shooting-alien invasion (I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU PRINCE DIAMOND) having a medic on their squad doesn't seem like a bad idea...

Also: bookworms instinctively, constantly study and feel ill-at-ease when they don't. I find myself reading the backs of shampoo bottles in the bathtub, for lack of books there... It's like breathing. Study-nerds constantly study, because it's their nature.

And I seem to recall from studies of England, etc. that royal houses have royal physicians, so perhaps she could serve in that function? As already posted, her powers aren't that hot and she has to be good at something...

Well, she is designated as the senshi of intelligence (seen early in the manga, where-as Jupiter is protection, etc). I'd imagine it's her job--as well as her innate nature--to gather intelligence and BE the intelligence of the main team.

As for continuing to study in the 'modern' setting, it's how she grew up...I can't imagine someone giving something up that is so much a part of them!

Regarding her attacks--they're more for strategy and defense than offensive ability, which also makes sense given her designation!
