So as I was watching the second episode of SMC I was like why did the generals go work for the Dark Kingdom?
By the way that would make an awesome RP. You all need to get your butts to the awesome rp section. Was it ever explained why they went to work for Beryl? I can't remember and if it was then this topic is useless! Anywho!!


I like to think that they went to work for Beryl because she either brainwashed them or promise them that their little prince would belong to them again. Think about it the generals and Endymion were close then comes along the little princess. Endymion falls in love with her and probably spends all day getting ready for her visits so he doesn't have time for his generals. They probably got jealous and Beryl saw this and probably used this to her advantage.

I thought so. I really don't remember the manga that well because I have only read through it once.  

As far as I remember, in the present incarnation they didn't have their past memories and I think were awakened by Beryl somehow. So they automatically work for her. Why they did it in the past is kind of vague though. They never explicitly said brainwashing or manipulating as far as I can remember.

Well in the old anime they are shown in the past fighting with her. I guess that didn't happen the manga. I swear the bad thing about Sailor Moon is that you merge all versions into one story.  

I think she did manipulate them though. From what I've been reading to make my profile for Nephrite and to do Who am I recently, the four Generals had some major doubts about the moon Kingdom and them all watching earth all the time and stuff and I think Beryl was able to prey on that and was able to manipulate them. Maybe she promised them if she sided with them Endymion would be safe and the moon Kingdom would be destroyed. I still think there was use of magic to help exploit them as well. She was a powerful magic user from what I remember.

What Addelyn said sounds really familiar so I think they might be on the right track. I don't think there is ever a clear explanation if that's what you're looking for Yami. The generals and the Silver Millennium in general is just one of those things that are kinda explained vaguely by Naoko.

I still think she did use a bit of magic to get them on to her side initially though. When they were reborn, she either suppressed their memories when she awoke them or she brainwashed them like she did with Mamoru.

In PGSM I think she suppressed their memories.

Yah but PGSM really did things a lot differently than the 90s anime or the Manga though so we may as well count PGSM as its own continuity.

The same goes with the myus, but it's nice to include a little of PGSM canon into the manga and anime canons.

Yeah I do think she brainwashed them but as far as the Sil Mil. we don't know. I mean she probably did brainwash them then too but there had to be some doubt or concerns installed in them already that made it easier for Beryl to turn them over to her side.

That or she magically planted the idea that they were doing the right thing.

Do we seriously have an RP or something going about this so we can explore what happened? Cause I think that would be cool.

I really like that idea of her manipulating them rather than brainwashing.

Yeah, I think she mostly manipulated them in the past, preyed on insecurities and problems already there, whipping them and all of Earth into a frenzy. However, she probably used magic to suppress some resistance.

In the present, definite magic. Metallia used magic to awaken memories of their past lives, but the memories were likely incomplete, as is common with reincarnation. Metallia must have suppressed and edited certain parts of Beryl's past memories to keep her as a puppet, like her sadness of Endymion's death. Also, her present memories.

The same was probably the same the generals. They know enough to know who they were what they are doing, why they are doing it, and to have all their skills, but any old memories of resistance are blocked.

It reminds me of Zen Aku from Power Rangers Wild Force. A Duke Org of incredible strength with a deep vendetta against the heroes, you also see there's something strange about him, and beyond the moment of his imprisonment, he is frustrated that he remembers nothing. He is also very defiant of the higher ranked Orgs. As his memories come back more and more, the villains place a magical insect in his head to not only make him obedient, but suppress those old memories and doubts.

Yeah, they were brainwashed so bad that the brain-washing continued after their death/reincarnation/however-the-heck they were still alive in modern day.
It had something to do with those stones that they had in the manga that mamoru only used once to meditate. 
The bigger question should be, were those stones their sailor crystals/star seeds?

I believe it could be their starseeds judging by episode 10 in Crystal.

So their starseeds just turned into stone and are just stuck in a glass case somewhere. Way to be a good nice to your-former- generals, Mamoru. Couldn't Neo Queen Serenity have revived their bodies or something?

That's my headcanon and that they help watch over Chibusa along with the Inners. Or NQS sends them on special missions.

That gives us a lot of wiggle-room for headcannons, fanfics and additional theories; that's for sure.

Oh, for sure! Gives me a lot of plot bunnies for rps.

Back on topic, why weren't they revived sooner? If we take into account how Usagi was able to revive the amazones quartet in the manga near the end of the supers arc, why didn't she? Where were the stones for the additional arcs? It's like they got written out with Naru/Molly, considering their last appearance and her last appearance was the exact same chapter. Go figure. 
Well, no story is perfect.

There probably was no room for them in the story or that it never crossed Naoko's mind to have them revived. 

PGSM:

Probably. Writers can only handle so many characters at once, especially if you're coming up with bigger plotpoints for later on. And yes from certain screenshots that I've seen (I couldn't get into PGSM) I think they did come back.

They're the best part of PGSM. XD 

But I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea. 

Back on topic. Judging by Crystal canon Beryl did brainwash them.
