Hate to admit how true all of that was.

Was on Youtube...seen it and LOL'd at it.  I expected him to do a stint on Sailor Moon by now. In the tradition of MAD and Cracked mags, and the Onion, to make a parody of something you like: call it corny (I suppose the first SM was), but 20 years and many SM shows later, it's hailed to be ground-breaking anime. The Nostalgia Critic ought to do Sailor Moon R, S, Super Star and Sailor V later.

I found out NC had reviewed Sailor Moon through tumblr, where everyone kept talking about how 'unfair' the review was, so I expected the video to be much worse than what it was. It was actually a really good episode, though.

I was wondering when this topic would happen.  I've seen it, and even though there was some funny moments I felt he did a poor job with the review to be honest. 

Usually he does better research in these things.

Sadly I doubt he'll be watching anything past the pilot episode or the first season of the show. I wouldn't be surprise if he doesn't even know there's a manga of this.

I'd love to see the look on his face when/if someone told him there's a manga, live action show and Sailor Moon musicals.

Just watched it, never seen his stuff before. Didn't really enjoy it tbh. Altho some of it made me laugh - I can't remember the exact quote about Molly, but to paraphrase "an overpowering accent with a body attached" made me laugh out. Wasn't impressed that he didn't get who Sailor V was in terms of the Sailor Moon universe, not very well researched.

Oh well, I'm so defensive of Sailor Moon I find it hard to take when people mock it sometimes. ^^;

The Sailor Venus deal is probably the part that bothered me the most. And it's apparent that he won't be watching enough of it to get that it's really more the characters that keep the show alive than the formula. Otherwise a lot of people would have just grown out of it and never speak of it again.  

To make it worse he has plenty of anime reviewers on that site who could have helped him with his research. But considering how much I've seen people bash the show, especially among the male crowd over here, I give him bonus points for two things: acknowledging that there is a culture difference albeit what he did brought up wouldn't be the first thing on my mind, and giving the title character her due for having an actual personality. That's more than I can say for some people out there.

 And seeing how members on that forum like to call anyone who defends the show a "weeboo" I'm backtracking out of there...

I really like Nostalgia Critic but this review was... Meh? It was good but really it had the most predictive and done 99999 times jokes ever. He do has good point but it wouldn't have hurt him to do some proper research.

It really annoyed me how he over sexualised it too. There was like 10 minutes about how 'hot' and 'paedalicious' (direct quote!) she is, and about ten seconds on the other senshi. No grasp on Sailor V, thinking it was 'Queen Barrel'... I just. =/

I know I'm in the minority, but I can't stand that guy. I have seen a lot of his reviews second-hand because I've been in the room while someone else was watching them, but I just don't find him entertaining. That said, I don't mind any of his comments/jokes or that he reviewed Sailor Moon, because I just don't really like his stuff anyway. I've been seeing that some people are SUPER OFFENDED by his review, and I think that's a bit over the top.

Yeah- it's very clear he didn't do his research here. If he had known about the upcoming anime, I think he would have made one or two remarks on it (maybe even something like "Perhaps the new series will be less formulaic." Or a joke about resurrecting an old cash cow franchise.) I think if he'd known about the musicals and live action show, he would have mentioned it at the beginning as well, when emphasizing how popular Sailor Moon was. The fact that he didn't causes me to think he was unaware the manga, live action, etc. existed.

The Pluto's not a planet joke really irritated me, but it has always and will always irritate me. Sailor "Uranus" was kind of predictable, as well. My sister said that in the commentary of a previous review, there were some jokes he didn't want to tell but he knew fans would keep asking about if he didn't tell the joke. I'm wondering if that's the case. (At any rate, hopefully it spared the video's comments section from any "original" people saying "Pluto's not a planet, herp, is Sailor Pluto still gonna be a Senshi?" )

I'm pretty sure that "Queen Barrel" was just a joke (though, given the fact he doesn't seem to know about Nephrite and the rest, there's a chance I'm wrong). He resisted making a pun off of Jadeite ("Jedi-te"), if I remember correctly, as well. The Sailor V thing does hint at his ignorance, though.

I haven watch it yet. I'm not going to expect much because well he's doing it for laughs. XD The NC also known as Doug is a pretty good reviewer especially when he actually reviews something and not do it for laughs. He has great in site.

OK I'll admit I enjoyed it and I hated the last three nostalgia critic videos I watched. but yea I agree about the thing about him not knowing who sailor V was.

You got to remember as well that NC is just a character Doug puts on as. People tend to forget that. Also it's hard for him to review a show that wasn't apart of his childhood. Like in his pokemon the movie review. He stated he never watched pokemon because he was in high school and he only did it because people requested him do it. I bet a ton of people requested him to do Sailor Moon.

I have no idea why Im defending him since I havent seen the review. XD I probably won't watch it because I was hoping to see a movie review! His movies reviews, old vs new, and his top 11s are his best. Yeah there are some movie reviews that suck, but hey most of his movies reviews are good.

Doug doesnt strike me as a brony at all. However in one NC video he yelled at the bronies because in the previous video mlp was feature for lolz and people turned the comment section into a brony board. XD

Doug blurs the line with his character often and a lot of the things he'll express as the Nostalgia Critic when it comes to a review he's doing will reflect his own personal thoughts on the subject.

Yeah that's another thing about Doug. >.< It's hard to tell if he's just in character or not. But when he's not the NC he truly is a good reviewer. He has good insights and I love listing to his editorials. He makes you think about things sometimes.

I agree and I can still enjoy this video for a lot of reasons. There was a time where I pretty much thought the same things as he did so I knew where he was coming from and personally if I was going to choose something to take offense to it'd be what I see his fanbase saying towards fans of the anime and anime in general than what he said.

I havne't watched the whole thing cause i haven't had the time to watch 26 minutes of him making jokes that I already know he's going to make and pretty much just predict what he's gunna say.

Whilst, I'm a bit disappointed that he seems to have at least lacked in doing some research on magical girl shows and what not, I think it can be appreciated that he is also reviewing the Sailor Moon Dub and doing it from the dub adaptation point of view.

Unless he went on to talk about the japanese version in the other half I didn't talk about, as a review of the Sailor Moon english adaptation, I can appreciate it. Some of the jokes were a bit funny, but as Mayo said, they are 99999 times overdone. lol

The jokes were overdone and everything, but I think his presentation of them was funny and there were some new ones.

I'm also not taking this review very seriously.  He clearly did not watch much of the show, and its not his cup of tea.  I have seen so many people online who are furious about it, but I just can't take it that way. And he is right that most episodes are formulaic

I'd say watch it and take what he says with a grain of salt.

Either way I expect a follow-up video with how much flak he's getting, or for him to either address it at the beginning of next week's episode or in a Top 11 of his most recent mistakes.

People shouldnt get upset with this. It's not like his word his law. The purpose of his show to look back at things from the past and make fun of it. For time to time he does positive reviews as the NC. Doug probably only did it because probably got a billion requests asking him doing it and people all the time ask him to review anime. Doug isn't a big anime fan.
