Hey Guildies!

So, idea, have you guys heard of Popcorn? You know, where your teacher starts making one of the students read aloud and when the teacher (or that student) yells out "POPCORN!" they choose another person to read and that person starts reading from the word the first student left off on? Well, how would you guys like to try that with writing?

My older brother once did something like this in class. He and his classmates were told to write a story on their piece of paper. One person was assigned to write the beginning, the other was to write the ending, and everyone else wrote something in the middle. They could not talk to each other about anything involving the story. Everything came from them - the characters, the setting, the genre, everything. Then, once everyone was done, the teacher shuffled all the middle parts into a random order, shoved the front page on the front and the back page on the back, and read their huge mis-matched story out loud. He said it was hilarious (by some stroke of fate, one dude had the main characters suddenly turn into worms at the bottom of his page, and the last page was done by a lazy kid who just wrote "And the worms were eaten by a bird, the end." and it was fabulous.

What do you think? I think for "continuity" sake, we'll just make up a number of characters with names for us to use, but everything else - setting, genre, etc. - is up to the writer.


...how does this help us become better writers? Well, maybe after we finish this we could attempt to assign genres next time to players. So someone who's used to writing action might have to try their hand at romance, or someone used to writing teen dramas suddenly have a horror section on their hands. x] fun, right?
