I am so behind. I recently started watching this on netflix. I just finished I guess what you could call the rose era. I'm on season/series 3. Last night though one of the girls from the current series was on Conan O'Brien.

Today's the day.
I thought I would be really sad when the Ponds left but now I'm sort of happy for them to go. I think the way the were written for this season was rather poor. If you go back and watch The Eleventh Hour you see how their characters are completely different! I know, I know, "character development" but in the first two seasons, they eagerly were wisked away by the Doctor but now they just treat it like they deserve to be taken by the Doctor somewhere amazing. They seem over the wonder and excitement of time and space. I have found them slightly annoying this season because of their lazy character development.
I'd also like to point out that their haven't been any big plot developments the season. At all. We haven't even had an two part story which is really strange! I've felt disappointed this season. Anyone else?

This whole "mini-season" was to set us up to get really emotional when the Ponds leave, so that's why there's no two parter episode. They could of had a fantastic plot set up that would end the same way and not feel like a waste. That's what this all was, a waste to give everyone feels a'la Moffet style. That and it introduced us to Oswin who is totally awesome and I can't wait to see her again during the Chirstmas Special (and it better be her and not some clone!relative thing because it would make her in AotD such a waste).
I do think Rory got some much needed character development this season. He's finally coming to his own and really becoming such a badass nurse. It's almost ashame it's been set all up just so he'd have to leave. Rory and his father have been awesome.
To be honest I couldn't wait for the two of them to leave, especially Amy. But now that we're on the BIG day I'm sorta upset about them leaving. Rory's really grown on me and it's so obvious the Doctor really considers them his family at this point. Although I think all season it's been hinted he's already gone through it with them, but I don't want to see the Doctor totally destroyed by losing them. It's happened before (lots), but I think it'll be written that this'll be the worst thing that's ever happened and therefore really hurt him. So I'm going to watch this episode by myself tonight and not with my brother like I usually do. I know I'm going to cry.
Just get ready for a new outfit for the Doctor and another new TARDIS interior. It's all changing when Oswin comes back.

Spoiler:
I'm kinda underwhelmed actually. The whole first forty minutes could really be avoided as it really did nothing to set anything up. Rory goes out for coffey and zap, 1938! Then River's there for no reason other than to bear witness to write the book and the Doctor's interactions with her seemed really forced.
I really loved how Rory and Amy decided to jump off the building together to create the paradox. That was clearly emotional and had me teary. I think it should have ended with that and the Doctor deciding to leave them behind again at home, not for them to be sent back to the 30's and get stuck there. Their depature in the graveyard was kinda meh. I did really feel bad for the Doctor through. He's so torn up from losing Amy after everything seemed like it would settle on a happy note
This episode didn't have me sobbing like I did during the End of Time and Exit Wounds on Torchwood. The way it ended (though it was Amy's choice to follow Rory) felt like Moffat tried to make a half assed version of Doomsday.

So, I think I agree. My bf was cheering when Amy and rory were gone. LOL But srsly, I did like how they really enforced the AmyxRory the way they did. Like you said it was really emotional, but it felt like a half -assed version of any of the previous finales. I just don't think Moffat is good with finales. :/

He's not, but he's sure got a flair for the dramatic. I can get behind him on that much at least. That and he likes having his characters jump of buildings. First Sherlock and now Amy and Rory. We wanted a Sherlock reference but not that one! xD
Do you think the Doctor's going to tell Rory's dad about what happened? I mean, the poor guy's going to be sitting there waiting for them the rest of his life.
Now we've got another couple that got locked away, but unlike Handy and Rose, at least we know the Ponds ended up happy together.

I was a complete mess during this episode. Seriously, I cried like a lot xD Especially when Amy and Rory jumped and when AMy decided to follow Rory.
I didn't think it was a bad episode at all. Sure, there may have been parts that could have been better, but I really liked it. I also liked that Amy and Rory ended up happy together.
I always think about stuff like "But what about Brian?" I'm sure he'll probably tell him, but or maybe Rory would send word (like something I saw on tumblr).
I honestly thought Ten's going away was cheesier than this. End of Time was not one of my favorites, just because there were so many things left that were unexplained and parts of the episode were emphasized more than others should have been.

That was beautiful. In that moment I'm like "finally Amy!" That did have me teary and I really wish that would have been their ending. It had such a powerful impact.
I'd hope the Doctor tells Brian because he was so concerned about the two of them being left behind or getting killed. Then this whole thing happens and it's like noooooo!
Lol, The End of Time is one of my favorite episodes because the Master was just sooo cheesy in a good way. With the whole "I don't want to go" blurp at the end I loved the fact Ten fought against dying because it was so human. Really he was one of the most human like Doctors.
And just in case you weren't done crying:

I was also wondering about Rory's father! He did worry about something happening to them and now they will never come back. He didn't get to say good bye!
I've also been wondering, why didn't the Doctor go and get them a year or so after? River sent the book to Amy so they can still have contact with each other.

I don't really agree with a lot of the criticisms here.
I think a major point of The Power of Three was to show that both Brian and the Ponds understand and accept the risk involved with having The Doctor in their lives. So I think that while Brian would be sad that he would never get to see them again, he would be happy that they were able to live their lives together. They did live full and rich lives - only time displaced. If anything, I imagine they could use their knowledge of the future to help improve history or at the very least.. make a bunch of money. I imagine they could send a postcard or a letter via River.
Also, I think Rivers departure is coming up soon. She made a point of saying Professor Song - and she was Professor Song in The Library. I figure there's been about 100 years over the course of s6 and s7 in the Doctor's life. A lot of that time he's spent with River, from their interactions we can tell they are much more comfortable with one another.
The Doctor cannot go back to get them because he read their tombstone. Earlier in the episode, he made a point of stopping Amy from reading the book as it would set the events in stone. This was reinforced by River's wrist; he wanted her to change written events and she couldn't.
Did anyone notice the smiling Angel? I think that Angel is the one that got Rory and Amy in the end.
I really liked the end and Amy's letter to The Doctor. By choosing Rory over The Doctor "Come along, Pond. Please." she demonstrated how much she's grown up. While she's had her adventures (and was fully willing to have more) she understands now that there is a value to real life. In PoT there was a scene with Rory and Amy where they said something like "Is real life happening?" "Yeah, I think so." "I like it."
I think that to say Moffat doesn't do strong endings.. is a little unfair. Doomsday was solid and had some decent continuity. It was certainly heartbreaking, but its effect was killed by the s4 finale. s3 finale was good, but I think it could have been condensed a bit. s4 was just all kinds of messed up, while I liked seeing all the characters together I didn't really appreciate the plot. s5 was really well done, there was built up through the episodic story episodes and everything (pretty much) made sense. s6 was straaaange in that it didn't quite feel like the previous Doctor Who episodes, but I think it still has its sci-fi merit, unlike the s4 finale.
As a side note, Power of Three really reminded me of the Davies era episodes (with the local and UNIT involvement). I thought it was the perfect blend of the Davies who and the Moffat who. Honestly, I want ALL of the new Clara episodes to have that same feel. Its just perfect. I looked it up and the episode was written by a Chris Chibnall. He helped in the initial writing and development of Merlin. He also had a big hand in Torchwood, "Chibnall wrote eight episodes during the first two series, including both series finales, and the premiere episode of series two. He worked closely with Russell T Davies across all aspects of the show's production." He also wrote the episodes "42" (2007), "The Hungry Earth" / "Cold Blood" (2010), "Pond Life" (2012) and "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" (2012). Here's his IMDB.
Overall, I think the whole thing was well done, they had a beginning and an end. They grew and changed over the course of their adventure, like any good companion should. While their departure wasn't free of supernatural elements, it wasn't horrific. Honestly, I don't think The Doctor ever could've parted with them in any other way. They had to be forced apart (much like Ten had to be forced from Rose) in order for further growth. Everything has a season and their story was really great.

I think I've cried my soul all over again ç.ç These scene is very very emotional and it would be a great addition to the episode.

Also, I kinda hoped that Rory and Amy would be able to find their child Melody lost on the streets in NY and that they would be able to properly raise her ç.ç but this was a good ending to their story too

It might be broken? There was a problem with Eleven's sonic for awhile. A button press while it's extended shorted the whole thing out. That was a while ago but they fixed it.
Go on youtube and watch a review and see if their's spin. I don't know personally, as I own Ten's sonic.

Just read this off of the Dr. Who tumblr.
It’s Official: Neil Gaiman IS Writing A New ‘Doctor Who’ Episode | Anglophenia According to Doctor Who Magazine, he has a new Who story to tell, and it’s going to appear in the second half of Season 7.
The existence of a second Gaiman script has been the subject of feverish internet conjecture for weeks, since Neil himself (who tweets under the name @neilhimself) mentioned that he was writing something Whoish back in September. And now it’s confirmed.
Other writers for the last eight stories of Season 7 include Neil Cross (the creator of Luther), Mark Gatiss (Steven Moffat’s Sherlock co-creator), Stephen Thompson (another Sherlocker, who also wrote The Curse of the Black Spot), and of course Steven Moffat
