Usagi laughed, a somewhat nervous sound, and rubbed the back of her head as she pondered Ami's question.

"Weeeeell, my mother always says that I have an overactive imagination," she said. "But the troll... I heard it. That hasn't happened before. I really don't know what it means."

Usagi was a generally empathetic and sympathetic person. She might have been scatterbrained, but she easily picked up on cues to how others were feeling. If someone was sad, they'd have a very hard time hiding it from Usagi. She trusted others, even people she didn't know terribly well, and her honesty and well-meaning interactions generally drew others to her. But the troll had been rampaging, howling and causing destruction. Still, there was something she could sense about it that seemed wrong. But it wasn't anything she could explain.

"Do you know anything about stuff like that happening?" she asked the blue-haired girl, sure that Ami was absolutely the smartest smart person ever and would have all kinds of information.

She also hadn't forgotten about Minako's prank, and was about to ask the golden-haired girl for more details before being distracted by Ami's more serious question. Usagi tried to make eye contact with the other blonde and nodded with a big grin, hoping that Minako would definitely share the details when there was a chance! A charmed firecracker? That sounded hilarious!

So this was really a new thing that happened with Usagi. And the crystals… they had to be connected to it. After all, all the professors had verified that it was pulsing with immense power, and none of them had even dared to pick it up. It had morphed that house elf into a giant troll upon touch. But Usagi had taken it as if it was just a harmless coin on the ground.

“I have never heard of someone who could do that, let alone someone who’s never displayed magical abilities before. Empaths are incredibly rare, and telepaths even more so… There are spells to get into someone’s mind, but from the way you described it, this just happened without you doing anything.”

Ami considered it for a bit, then decided maybe it was best that she shared what she suspected with the group.

“Usagi… I don’t want to freak you out… but there is a prophecy. One that speaks of seven pieces of crystals that were scattered across the realm. When combined, they could awaken power strong enough to eradicate the most dangerous evil ever seen since He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. This power allegedly could only be wielded by one unnamed young girl. A lot of powerful witches and wizards have long been searching for it, but they had never turned up. I wonder… if the crystal we found is one of them? And if you’re the only one who can touch it without being affected by its power…”

She let her sentence trail off, confident that Usagi and the others would come to the only logical conclusion.

Usagi's nervous laughter rang out once again.

"What? No. I mean... It just... There has to be... How?" she fumbled, nearly knocking over her cup of juice as her hands struggled to illustrate her jumbled words. "I'm not magic. I'm not a witch. I mean, that's probably why nothing happened. I can't do anything."

Makoto's attention focused as Ami asked Usagi if she had ever felt anyone's or anything's emotions before. While she couldn't recall reading anything about someone being able to do something like Usagi had before, Mako wondered if Ami had. Or not. Apparently Ami didn't either. 

"Maybe it's a new kind of magic?"
