Okay so... let's say the "incident" that landed Usagi in Hogwarts involved a troll (because we should start small). It was picked up by a... let's say a curious house elf (did they ever change/liberate house elves for good in the book? I can't remember ;_; )

So clearly some people defeated it and Usagi was nearby and she picked up the crystal that rolled out once the troll was knocked out (because it's shiny). The house elf, now returned to his old self, seemed alarmed upon seeing this and explained that he had touched the crystal, and that's how he got turned into an angry bat-wielding troll. Everyone stared at Usagi, holding the crystal, perfectly fine.

The professors examined the crystal and determined its dangerous power and kept it under lock and key. They weren't sure if this was a one-off accident or not, if Usagi was special or not (the crystal could have only been reacting strangely to the particular house elf) but decided to keep her around just in case. (They have a feeling about this! xD)

So I'm thinking the girls were on the scene of that first incident and helped neutralize the troll. (They could be sworn to secrecy by the headmaster). Because that would make it easy for them to catch on to the whole Usagi-might-be-prophecy-girl thing and take them into the thick of things.

I'm not sure how this information would spread to the Shitennou (rumors? them figuring it out themselves? A combination of both? Minako accidentally slipped?) but maybe they start befriending the girls because they want to know more about Usagi and eventually do get interested in the girls for real, then they get conflicted about what they actually want, especially when we throw Beryl promising power to them into the mix.

Does this all sound good or would anyone like any modifications?

Considering that the boys are Slytherin, they probably could have weaseled the info out of someone with enough effort once they heard some rumors. XD

Other than that, I'm fine with it. But do the girls just secretly collect the other crystals and let Usagi keep them, she's the only one who can safely touch them anyway, or do they give them to the headmaster for protection?

Hmm, that is a good point. I think the first one ended up in the Headmaster's safekeeping, but as for the next ones... maybe the girls could be divided on what they should do with it. Some of them could be all, "should we trust the authorities?" and others (Ami lol) will be "Of course we should give it to the teachers!!" xD So this would open up the possibility of them keeping some themselves (well Usagi would since she's the only one who could touch it).

That could be the conflict once they find their first one: whether to keep the crystal or hand it over. Maybe they think that Usagi needs them as soon as possible to fulfill the prophecy, and they insist on keeping any one they find for that purpose.

Maybe Minako could try to explain the situation to Artemis and convince him to help them. This way, Ami's happy because they gave it to a teacher and at the same time they keep it secret from the others xD I dunno, I just don't know what else to do with him xD

If Artemis is willing to keep it from the other professors, sure. But I'm sure some of the others would also be wary about trusting the head of the Slytherin house

Perhaps she does it without telling the others? Although that doesn't really scream TRUST ME FRIENDS to me, but it could be a point of contention later, which ends up working out in their favour.

I think the description of the event sounds fine to me~ Usagi would be totally oblivious to why holding that gem was such a big deal. She'll be super excited to recognize the other girls in her classes when she's enrolled in the school.

Perhaps we should play it out and let the characters decide XD I think we can start with Usagi's appearance at the school (Family visitation day I think it was? And all our girls would be together because none of them have family that could visit - maybe Minako's parents are busy with something or other? Haha accidental angst). Which would lead to the first rainbow crystal appearance.

I think Mamoru is actually a fifth year student, and Usagi is the only 3rd year one. The rest of the girls are in their fourth year.
