Before you say anything!! Yes these are new the models of the 3DS. Nintendo did in fact used the word new when naming their new handhelds.
So what is the New 3DS? It's basically a 3DS with new controls and a faster processor. There's some other features built in as well. There will also be exclusive games. Don't worry! It can still play normal 3DS games and DS games.
It has already been released in Japan and Australia. It comes out next month in North America and Europe. People in North America will only be able to get the XL version. Which is sad because the regular size comes with interchangeable faceplates. I guess the XL version sells better in North America.
I'm not sure if I am going to get this or not. They have a bundle that comes with MM. I am very tempted, but I kind of want to wait and see what Nintendo does with this.

It seems pretty pointless, I guess. Kinda like the DSI in comparison to the DS; it wasn't necessary and, unlike the DSI, it has a really lame name. It's literally called "New nintendo 3ds." I guess I'll wait for reviews and footage, but this seems unnecessary. then again, this is nintendo we're talking about.

This kind of thing has been going on since the Gameboy. They have always come out with different models of their current handheld. Which honestly I think it's great for those who are late into the game. Because usually their later models are better. The DSi was basically the DS Lite, but with internet. So not much of a difference.
I was very happy about the Gameboy Advance SP and the DS Lite models. They were designed better and had better lighting. I've always wanted a 3DS XL and seeing this makes me more tempted. I like the fact that it has better processor because sometimes my 3DS can be a bit a slow. Plus this means I can trade with myself in Pokemon.

As someone who has a regular 3DS and is looking to upgrade to a bigger screen (after buying her partner a 3DS XL and kidnapping it daily for the larger screen~) I think the New 3DS XL would be the way to go. But if you are someone who already has a 3DS XL, then I wouldn't upgrade to the New one. But, it really depends on what type of gamer you are. With the added buttons etc. and improved 3D it speaks more to people who want to play games that utilise more complex controls, like perhaps FPS's. I am curious about what specialised New 3DS games will be released to take advantage of the new features.

The first New 3DS game will be part of the Xenoblade Chronicles. I believe it's a remake of the Wii game. Which is nice for those who missed out on it in the US.

The 3DS XL that I had, my husband took, and I just got a new one yesterday (the GameStop exclusive, which looks like an old-school NES controller) and while we were in there, we were looking into the NEW (lol, the name makes me laugh too, like really?) 3DS XL.
One of our favorite online reviewers was talking about it, and here's the pros and cons as he put them:
PROS:
- Face tracking feature, so that when you're using the 3D, and you shift your position, the screen doesn't look like you're going through the Twilight Zone. It automatically keeps track of your face, so that if you move the handheld to a different position, it adjusts the 3D to compensate.
- Faster processor. Who doesn't love a faster processor?
- Additional C-stick added to the right-hand side to aid in camera angle changes.
- In comparison with the 3DS XL, the NEW 3DS XL is slightly larger in terms of width and screen, but at the same time is slightly slimmer.
Cons:
- DOES NOT COME WITH A POWER ADAPTER! From what I can gather, in order to keep the price under $200.00, Nintendo decided to make the power adapter sold separately. To me, that's KIND of a big deal.
Everything else isn't really something I would say is a "con", just depends on your personal preference. From what I can tell, it really doesn't do anything different than the 3DS, so if you're tight on cash or would rather spend your money on a new game or what-have-you, I'd just bypass. We're going to be getting one, simply because the 3DS my husband now plays on was used when we bought it, but if we trade it in towards pre-ordering a NEW, we'll get $100 towards it, so it's sort of a win-win for us.

Yeah it's dumb that we dont get an adapter, but they're cheap to buy. You can probably fine a reasonable price one online. I'm loving the outrage over this. Apparently overseas with the 3DS XL it didn't come with an adapter either. So this isn't new to them. I think in Nintnedo's mind at this point they figure you have upgraded many time over the years so you should have an extra adapter laying around. But it sucks for people who want to trade in their current 3DSs for the New 3DS. If I get one I'm just going to save up for it. I actually have the money right now...Thank you Christmas money! I'm keeping my 3DS because I grow attach to my consoles and I can't bring myself to sell them. Plus having two handhelds can be nice. Especially if you play Pokemon and you want to trade items seeing how the bank doesn't let pokemon hold items.

Yeah, I think there's plenty of off-brand adapters that will work for it, but what I'm wondering is, if the adapter for the 3DS XL will work on the NEW 3DS XL (that's a mouthful, I think I'll just stick with "NEW" from now on).
I don't really think it's a price issue, I just think there's just going to be plenty of people who buy it not knowing they need to purchase the adapter separately. No big deal, really, unless you're one of those people who stood in line for forever to get yours, get it home, and then realize you've got an expensive paperweight until you get an adapter.

The store employees should inform a buyer about this. Plus it's probably on the box too. Yes all 3DS chargers work on all the same 3DS systems. It also works for the DSi.

I agree, but sometimes it just happens. Sometimes they forget, or think you've already been told (by another employee, or that they told you). I've had that happen on systems before that needed memory cards in order to play.
And that's good about the power adapters! Will pass along the info!

I'm perfectly content with my current 2DS, and I don't want to spend so much money on another console when I could use it for other things, so count me out.

I'm debating about getting one still. I have the money for it,but I want to wait for more colors. However by the look of things Nintendo isn't really going to pour a lot of money into this in NA. I'm really sad we won't get the normal size. I want those faceplates!! I love decking out my video games. >.<

I'm definitely disappointed about not getting the regular size w/ face plates, but I'll definitely be getting the New 3DS when I can afford it. My 3DS is over 4 years old now, it won't last forever. xP

From the reviews I watch. For whatever reason the SD card is inside the new 3DS. Good thing I don't download many games. I like owning physical copies.

Yeah I saw that. It seems really stupid. Sure, the old 3ds models had a problem with it popping out if it fell a certain way, but to have to take the console apart just to get to it seems annoying as heck.
