Maybe a little too similar, but it's funny at the same time. SM is a completely fantastic series, and TMM could've been if they hadn't passed over some wasted opportunities. Still, TMM was pretty good. ^^ *Huggles Kisshu.*

I feel like TMM DEFINITELY!!! Had some Sailor Moon influence since it came out a few years after Sailor Moon ended.

I will say that I never really watched TMM but those designs definitely look very similar.

Well Mew Pink's weapon is called the Starwberry Bell ( i think its been a while since i watched this series) and the words Chibi-Usa uses is "Twinkle Yell".

there will always be similarities in magical girl shows. Sailor Moon wasn't the first magical girl show either. ^^;

Mmmhmm. SM and WP have quite a few similarities. But WP tried too much to be like Sailor Moon, I think. They would've done a lot better had they worked on their plot more, too.

Manga is a lot more well done then the anime, but a lot are all similar.

I'm not overly familiar with W.I.T.C.H., but I have seen a few episodes. Enough to tell that the main antagonist is a wuss. ^_^"

Wasn't W.I.T.C.H. italian or something? *wiki search* Ah yeah. Originally it was a comic. I never saw it, but it looked cute.

I think it was. Same with Winx Club. That show has some similarity to Sailor Moon and is such a guilty pleasure of mine. ^_^

You should give TMM a chance! The show is totally adorbs and was a good "I need something magical girl besides Sailor Moon" show to have. ^_^

I think it just wasn't something that I could get into at the time. When I get the chance I plan on watching it.

Well, Sailor Moon did pave the way for magical girl anime, so~ I'm not surprised at all.

I have the Tokyo Mew Mew manga, but never read it. (I borrowed it during high school and forgot to return it....oops).

I was refering to Wedding Peach, but all falls in line together. Because of the "Whatr is needed" to make it an actual Magical Girl story, plus there was a lot before SM so it still could be said about SM that it's like things before it.

What was the contraversy between Wedding Peach and SM?

Wedding Peach came out around the same time as SM if I remember. A lot of people claimed it was a blatant rip off of Sailor moon. I think a lot of people didn't like that they turned into brides. Probably some feminists really hated it. I don't quite remember. I never got into the series. Though it seemed cute.

But yeah, Siren is right. Its not like Sailor Moon was the first magical girl. It just set the standard of what we know today of magical girl series. Magical girl series have been around since like the 70s I believe. But often it was about one main character, not a team of girls or anything. There was often a formula that was followed too. She typically had a guardian animal or sidekick, that was always a male, and so on and so forth.

The earliest magical girl series was probably Mahoutsukai Sally or Sally the Witch. In the 80s there was Magical Princess Minky Momo (and like tons of other series too), which according to TVTropes, was the first one to introduce the animal side kick.

Yep. Wikipedia and TvTropes is where i got most of my basic info. Sailor Moon I think revolutionized the genre because there hadn't been a team based series of girls before. And team based stuff was popular with boys (Note: Power Rangers, Super Sentai series, other past series which had a team of mainly boys, like Saint Seiya or Voltron, etc.) and thats why it was so popular and has done well. On top of so many other reasons. ^^ But most people think that it started the genre and its kinda like..."nope learn ya some histories" XD
