| Subject: Computer Crash 13th November 2011, 11:38 am | |
| My computer freaking crashed really hard last night... I stayed up till about 1am, and then slept while it did it's thing, and then woke up at 5am to find that it didn't even touch it. I have no idea what's wrong other than it's a critical thing. my husband thinks it's a bad virus, even though I haven't the slightest were I would have gotten it.
Any ways, me and my husband attempted to trouble shoot it while I was on my phone, however, with him in Iraq it's a lot harder to do. He comes home really soon, and when he does we are going to try and recover my important files and then wipe it clean and install windows 7. That means I'm with out a computer. I'm using his 7 year old lap top now, and it's a challenge to say the least.
I can get on for crucial things, and there are a few things I'd like to get done. But I'm officially on LOA until it's recovered.
Sailor Jupiter is in charge, so if you have anything or need anything PLEASE take it to her.
- Love, an utterly frustrated and cranky Lady Galaxia |

| *Huggles* As I told you last night, I'm sorry to hear that it's giving you so much flak. Hopefully it'll be easier to use once you install Windows 7. (And I'm sure spending time with hubby will be a nice change. ^^) |

| Lady, try a system restore. that got rid of a worm computer virus I had that had fake pop ups spamming everything and wouldn't even allow me to open icons. |

| Ahh computer viruses.... yay Well I do have a suggestion. Assuming that your anti-virus and security software is not finding it, I would recommend visiting an outside source. My personal favorite is Trend-Micro's Housecall online virus scan, as it's free and pretty effective. The address is http://housecall.trendmicro.com After choosing to downloading either the 32 or 64 bit exe file, it creates a virtual copy of your hard drive (no sensitive info is passed), and then runs the virtual copy for anything. If it does find something, it will either send you the right thing to fix it, or will usually have a link there to send you to the right place in order to get the cure to what ails you. Good luck, RRViper (who just finished arguing with his PC after reassembling it to recognize the monitor correctly in order to get the resolution back to the way it's supposed to be) |

| Yeah, let us know if there's anything we can do, I'm sure there are plenty techie people on here. The two suggestions above and good places to start. Are you getting blue screen of death crashes? Or just straight up freezing? |

| I was using my computer when it closed out of every window and screen/desktop reloaded 5 minutes later.. it was just the tool bar and a black screen.
When things finally loaded again, I was logged and closed out of everything, and missing several documents on my desktop. Then messages popped saying there was a critical error in my hard disk, and then that changed to my hard disk had several badly damaged clusters, and then apparently the OS couldn't find any free space in it. And right in the middle of this, by anti-virus, Avira, popped up and notified that something was attacking my computer, but the message was gone to fast for me to read. It attempted to scan, but the computer was frozen.
So I shut it down and re booted it in safe mode with out networking, and ran ccleaner, glary utilities, malewarebytes, and avira's full system scan. It found nothing, but I noticed that all the scans last a lot shorter than they should have. None of them found anything. So I rebooted the computer normally. The desktop wouldn't load, and about 35/40 messages popped up listing sections of my hard drive that were severely damaged or corrupted.
Me and my husband looked into a system restore, but it didn't give me any dates at all.
We both know it's a virus, so we will try a few things when he is actually home, and if worse comes to worse, I can just attempt to recover my documents via safemode, and then swipe everything clean and install Windows 7.
Thank you every one for the suggestions, I'll let my husband know when he is here, and we will look into them. He should be getting home Wednesday/Thursday, plus he will need time to recover from the 20+ hour flight from Iraq to here. |

| Hm, yeah. A wipe and install of Win 7 might be the best bet. Sounds pretty bad. I wonder if something messed up your hard drive. Hm. :/ Oh well, that's a bummer. Hope you get it fixed soon! |

| Ugh. I don't think a wipe and reinstall is going to help here. I'm guessing the hard drive is DOA, and if you're lucky that's all that happened.
This sounds familiar to what happened to my first computer. Same repeated cluster problems, same repeated error messages, same loss in hard drive space. Worked on revival and quarantine techniques, reformats, and just about anything else I could think of. Finally after working my magic after about a week with no luck, I decided to take it in to get it checked out. After getting the results of the diagnostics, somehow with all the surge protection that I had a computer surge came through bad enough to kill the hard drives, motherboard, ram, video and graphics card, and just about everything else. In fact the only things that survived were the cd-rom drive and the floppy disk drive.
So based on what you mentioned Lady Galaxia, your computer might be shot. I hope it's not the case though. Good luck.
laters,
RRViper (who hopes he's wrong this time around) |

| Alright, husband is home, really on LOA. Probably for 1/2 more weeks. He doesn't want to stay home, and he is given time off. I will only be getting on to deal with Admin stuff. Love you all. You all mean a lot to me.
Urgent PMs only, will be answered. |
