Mako didn’t get what was going on immediately, wondering what Nephrite was doing when he moved to her side. But when he dropped to one knee, her heart skipped a beat even as her mind refused to believe it. He couldn’t possibly doing what she thought he was doing, right? This was their first date since he got back… would he be that sure already?

But the look in his eyes told her everything she needed to know. They had waited enough. They had been patient enough. Just because they were separated all this time did not mean the love that had grown between them was any less than if he had been here. Her eyes began to well up at his words, and her gaze fell to the box he presented to her. The ring inside glowed beautifully like a promise.

She let out a happy laugh through her tears. “Actually, I would be honored to be your wife.”

Usually more reserved than this, she let her emotions pour out as she moved to hug him tightly, then kiss him, not caring who was watching.

Several Months Later 


Nephrite sighed as he answered what felt like the millionth wedding question. Did he want this colour or that colour for his tie? Why was he being subjected to this again? Ah yes, because the Queen and Minako had found out about his and Makoto's eloping. They had eloped the same night he had proposed and had taken an impromptu honeymoon. It was on that honeymoon that they had coincidentally run into Minako. She had seen the ring on Makoto's finger and had quickly done the math. 

The Queen had pouted for days at not being told, before throwing herself whole heatedly into planning the wedding with Minako. The two women were planning every last detail of the wedding regardless of the fact that as far as Nephrite was concerned, the ceremony wasn't needed, they were already married - a fact no one seemed to remember. 

So here he was, answering last minute questions for a wedding ceremony he didn't want in order to please the Queen and his wife. Appealing to the King hadn't done him any good. The other man had told him that once Usagi got an idea in her head like this, there was no stopping her, especially once you add Minako into the mix. 

He wondered if it was possible for some deity to hear his plea for mercy and to rescue him from this insanity.

She supposed she had always dreamed about a big wedding.

At least, that was how it had always been in her imagination. But that night Nephrite had proposed to her, suddenly none of the things she had agonized over—the cake, the dress, the flowers, the decorations—mattered. In fact, they seemed more like inconveniences to her.

And she had been glad that they eloped. But now that Usagi and Minako had coerced her into an actual wedding, Mako didn’t resent them for it either. She actually felt grateful because now she got to have both. She could have her dream wedding, but without the pressure and nervousness and stress that came with it because she was already married.

A fact nobody seemed to care or remember.

At least they had planned it quickly. And the other girls were being helpful, which they should be because this wasn’t even her idea. They had insisted that she just had to sit and watch and answer questions while they did everything.

So Mako answered the questions easily, because as mentioned before, she had already planned this wedding in her head down to the last detail.

And now here she was, in her dream dress, holding her dream bouquet.

And then the worst thing dawned on her, the one thing she hadn’t planned on.

Who was going to walk her down the aisle? Who was supposed to give her away?

But then the answer came in the form of Neo Queen Serenity, who just showed up and signaled to her that everything was ready.

“You’re going to walk me down the aisle?” she asked, blinking in surprise.

“Well, duh. Who else is supposed to give you away? You’re one of my people, Mako-chan. And Nephrite better know that.”

Tears clouded her eyes hearing Serenity’s words, and she didn’t hesitate before taking her queen’s arm.

Together, they began to walk down the aisle, preceded by the other girls. Her eyes caught Nephrite’s at the end of it, and she couldn’t help but smile.

He stood nervously at the end of the aisle, waiting for Makoto to enter. By his side, acting as his Best Man was his King, the man he had served faithfully for most of his life and his friends, the Shittennou, men he had fought beside acted as his groomsmen. Before he had even been able to ask them, they had volunteered, citing that they had been waiting long enough for him to get his head screwed on right when it came to Makoto and of course they would be his groomsmen. 

As the music began to play, he brought himself out of his musing, eyes trained on the door that she would walk through. Eagerly he waited, as each of the other senshi walked down the aisle until he saw her, the Queen walking her down the aisle. 

He was suddenly nervous as she approached. She was absolutely stunning in her dress- he was suddenly glad that she hadn't allowed him to see it before the ceremony. He gripped his ceremonial sword to keep his hands from shaking. When she caught his eye he couldn't help but smile back. 

All too soon she was there beside him as they turned to face Helios who was presiding over the ceremony.  He barely heard the words being spoken, nor the ones he repeated from memory, his mind too caught up with looking at his wife. They were already married, but there was just something about this ceremony...it spoke to him, similar to how the stars did.

All too soon, they spoke their vows once more and was, again, declared husband and wife. When Helios finally said they may kiss, she practically jumped him; she couldn't wait anymore. The other girls clapped and cheered loudly, and suddenly they were showered with flower petals and confetti. Makoto laughed, feeling the happiest she had ever been in a long time. Finally she had found the love she had always dreamed about, and the best part of her life was only just beginning.

"Shall we, husband?" she asked to Nephrite, winking as she turned toward the doors, where their future awaited.

When Makoto jumped him, he could barely hear the cheers and and clapping in the background, nor Jadeite's wolf whistle. All he cared about was the woman in his arms. 

"We shall, wife," he said, taking her arm in his, they walked out of the church, eager to start their new future.
