MOCKINGJAY IS FINALLY RELEASED IN THEATERS!!!!
I went and saw the movie last night, and it was absolutely fantastic. The beginning was a bit slow, but an awesome movie nonetheless. I am really happy with how these movies have been made - in my opinion, they are better than the books. I thought the book for Mockingjay was really awful. It was just incredibly boring, and hard to visualize. But this movie brought the book to a whole new perspective for me, and I would go back and see it again a million times.
My favorite part though had to be "The Hanging Tree." The song was so powerful in a way, and when the rebels sang it together I got so many chills.
The Hanging Tree:
Jennifer Lawrence is a fantastic actress. She has not let us down with any of her movies, and I couldn't have imagined a better Katniss Everdeen.
So, what are your thoughts? Please put all spoilers in a spoiler tag!

Ergh, Mockingjay is my least favorite book of the three (the final book/unsatisfying end syndrome) so I'm not in a rush to see it. But if you said they made it better, I guess I'm hopeful?
Still not looking forward to Part 2 though. There are so many things there that make me rage. xD

Same Mercury. I think Book 3 was my least favourite. There are parts of it I do like, but I'm not a huge fan of the ending. Although I do love the series overall.

Book Three was...awful. I really can't give it any compliments. But the movie is sooooo much better. Seriously, take my word for it. I still can't get over how awesome the movie was. It just knew how to reach every emotion I had. The ending made me cry, and so did a lot of other parts. The rebellion is so powerful, and all of the actors do an amazing job.
And the love triangle gets even more intense. I still can't decide between Gale and Peeta. I'm leaning towards Peeta, but...Gale in this movie is just so great. I don't like making decisions xD.

Gale was an arse through most of the series and really in the last book. I really hope his actor is able to show that in Part 1 and Part 2 of Mockingjay and yah, Book 3 was horrible.
However, it's suppose to be. Hunger Games is a dark book and book 3 is the darkest. We're seeing war here and that's never a pretty topic.

It wasn't really the topic of darkness in the book that bothered me - it was just the way it was written. Honestly, the only thing I really remember from the book is Katniss hiding places. The movie was so much more in-depth than that, and I loved being able to see the underground rebel base instead of having to imagine it.
I was a full-on Peeta x Katniss shipper up until seeing this movie yesterday.
I always thought Gale was really unattractive in the first and second movies. But in the third movie...woah. He's...beautiful.
Spoiler:
The part that really got me going for Gale in the movie was where Katniss kissed him, and he said, "I knew you were going to do that." And Katniss asks how he knew, and he said, "Because you only notice me when I'm in pain." I just felt so bad for him, and then he went and risked his life to rescue Peeta, Johanna, and Annie, and I just fell even more in love with his character. But the ending of the movie sent me right back to Peeta...it was really sad and depressing and it just broke my heart. In the theater, it was really quiet because we were all anticipating what was going to happen, and then you see Peeta and I gasped extremely loud because it was so sad.
Gale's character really does show in this movie, A LOT. It's the reason why I'm more in the middle now than I was before when it came to who I wanted Katniss to be with.

I've ranted about the problems with Peeta/Katniss in the book thread so I'm not going to repeat it here xD I actually found Gale to be my preferable choice, and it does not help at all that he is portrayed by Liam Hemsworth in the movies. I mean, choosing on looks only, it's hands down him. >.>

I find neither. I find one to be the perfect person and one to be the bad boy stereotype. Why does she have to chose 1?

Going with neither would've been okay with me too. After all the stuff she went through it was probably the best option anyway. o_o

Agreed. I mean if she chooses to be with one later like I don't know, years later? Fine, but right after everything? How is that relationships suppose to survive?

I was always bothered by Liam's lips xD.
I don't really think Gale had the "bad boy" stereotype. Peeta was a cowardly, practically useless person who baked for a living. Gale was a brave, strong fighter who did anything he could for his family. Peeta was better with his emotions, Gale was better with his actions, I guess. I liked Peeta because of how much he cared for Katniss, and in this movie his love for her is so evident and it just breaks my heart.
Too many emotions xD

Yah that's my problem with Peeta/Katniss: we're constantly shown how much he loves her, but not the other way around.

I just find Gale, in the last book as far as I can remember, was very callous and I stopped liking him in the 3rd book.

So my friend asked me to go watch this and we did tonight.
Spoiler:
I agree with the emotions' portrayal; they were really powerful. I teared up more times than I can count (though it doesn't require a lot to make me teary so it probably shouldn't count as much) but I thought it was an amazing moment when Katniss delivered the line: "If we burn, you'll burn with us" (I think? I don't remember the exact phrasing). It just gave me shivers. It was really obvious the difference between that moment and the attempt of making the speech in a scripted setting, and she had to act as someone who was acting badly and then act as someone appearing very raw and real and it's just amazing. The rebellion happening everywhere felt real and heartbreaking and powerful even though they were just a few scenes here and there.
That moment when Katniss and Gale shot down the planes together, though? That was my "we could have had it all" moment. Seriously, the two of them could have been so badass together. I've always felt that Katniss only cares so much about Peeta because she was saved instead of him and he's a Good Person, but I'm surprised at how Jennifer Lawrence actually managed to sell the fact that she actually loves him.
They're setting this up very clearly about who she's gonna pick (which wasn't like that in the book at all - Katniss seemed more wishy-washy there) with her kissing Gale almost emotionlessly/out of pity and even he seems to understand that she will never be his. It feels like he already gave up. (That thing he said about her only noticing him when he's in pain, and how quickly he draws back when she leans her head on his shoulder during that short moment by the river)
Doesn't mean I still don't love Gale, though. After all, if he already knew she would never be his, that made him risking his life to save Peeta and everyone else even more selfless, because he was truly only doing it because he knew it would make her happy.
GALE STAN FOR LYFE
I'm just gonna imagine that awesome scene with the two of them shooting down freaking bomber planes with arrows and blaring Adele's We Could Have Had it All as the background soundtrack.
