Popcorn Challenge!


Time for a new game of Popcorn, where we collaborate on different parts of the same random story! This time is going to be a little different, and be more along the lines of the reading-aloud version of popcorn than previous blind versions! 

How it goes...:

THE THEME: What else? ALTERNATE UNIVERSES! 


Each new post will start in a new universe, but will contain the same characters (though their professions, settings, and abilities may drastically change) and follow along with the same story/plot/conversation that was happening in the previous entry. If no conversation was happening when a post ended, feel free to 'skip forward' in time. However, if a post stops mid-conversation, you must finish that conversation before changing settings.

Post lengths can vary, but please aim for at least 100 words and less than 1000 words (this isn't a string of one-shots! XD)

First person: [[Home universe Starter!]]
Usagi went skipping down the street, singing happily to herself of her upcoming Surprise! Buy me Ice Cream! date with Mamoru, when suddenly a little girl came out of an alleyway, tripped, fell, and started crying. She knelt to help the little girl up and, smiling, asked if she were okay.

"No," the little girl said, wailing as she saw her scraped knee, "I'm bleeeedinggg!!" 


Second person: [[Star Trek AU!]]
"Well, then, we'd better get you to med-bay! I'm sure Doctor Mizuno can fix you up perfectly!" Counselor Tsukino cheered, helping the girl stand and leading her down the hallway towards the elevator. "Have you met Dr. Mizuno yet?" she asked with a friendly tone, trying to keep the girl's mind off her scrape as the elevator made its way towards them.

"Yes," the girl replied, still teary-eyed, "She gave me a shot."

"A SHOT?!" Usagi repeated as though aghast. "Why?!"

"She said it'd keep me from getting sick."

"Ah," Usagi replied, leading the girl into the elevator as it arrived and pressing the level for medical. "Have you gotten sick?" she asked conspiratorially.

"No," the girl replied, also in hushed tones, "and I got a treat afterwards."

"Ice cream?" Usagi whispered.

"Chocolate," the girl replied.

"Good deal!" Just then, right as the elevator stopped, Usagi's communicator sounded. She straightened, smiling down at the girl, and pressed the communicator to open the channel. "Tsukino!"

"Counselor, you're needed immediately in sick-bay! It's an emergency!"


Third Person: [[Merlin AU!]]
"What's wrong with him?" Usagi asked softly, keeping her voice in a lower register to lend itself to her daily male disguise, staring down at the pale personage on the bed in front of her. 

"I'm not sure," Ami replied, her alchemical and herbal materials laid out on the bed beside them, "I can't find anything amiss with them physically..." she gave Usagi a knowing glance, and the blonde took the meaning precisely. Magic was the cause. Who could be behind this? "...perhaps a poison?" Ami offered, hoping the Prince and King would take the bait.

"A poison?" Prince Mamoru repeated, staring at the man with great concern from the other side of the bed. "Usago, go check out his quarters immediately."

She cheered to herself - what better way was there to check for magical tampering than getting permission? No sneaking around, no disguises - this might even be easy! -- and nodded her head, turning to leave.

"Oh, and take the Lady Rei with you," the Prince added, stopping Usagi in her tracks, "She might sense something." 

Immediately Usagi's shoulders drooped as she nodded again, then turned and made her way out of the room and down towards the Lady Rei's quarters. So much for an easy mission - Rei knew she was hiding something, and whatever she found - that Usagi was actually Usagi, not go, actually a girl and not a boy, or that she had magic - would end in a heap of trouble. 

Fourth person.... [[something au]] they'd continue with finding rei and searching for the cause of whatever disease Ami found, be it magical or mundane ^^ the story'd continue from there!

OPENING POST


[[Home-Universe Setting]]

Usagi breathed heavily, dashing for her life towards the school building. She was late again! How did this happen?! She had set her alarm and only hit snooze six times! Why did morning have to come so early?! Throwing her head skyward to run, swallowing the last of her toast, she whined at the sky for a moment before partially tripping and reevaluating her choice of gaze direction.

She turned a corner and half expected to meet Minako, but instead saw her running much farther ahead - Usagi must be really late - and with her... she pouted a little (hard to do while running). Chizori. Chizori was new to their high school, and ever since her arrival the week prior, Usagi had felt decidedly left out at school, and she didn't really care for it. 

Rei said it was all in her head, but she knew it wasn't a coincidence. And today? Today she was going to spy, eavesdrop, complain and confront until she got to the bottom of this!



pop!

Athlete!AU

Usagi scowled as she pulled her jersey over her head, slamming her locker shut as Chizori walked out onto the court with the rest of the team behind her.  Usagi had been replaced, by both her team and her friends.  She had been the point guard, the team captain, the one who was always talked to by her teammates.  But as soon as Chizori made the team after transferring, all of that changed.  Usagi lost her spot in the starting line-up and as the team captiain, and her team no longer respected her like they used to.  Even her closest teammates, Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako, had abandoned her.  

As Usagi sat on the bench, she cursed as Makoto won the jump, hitting the basketball towards Chizori, who dribbled to the goal and scored a lay-up.  Not even three seconds into the game and the crowd was already going wild. 

Usagi scanned the audience, finally spotting her crush of seven hears, Chiba Mamoru.  He was watching Chizori, clapping and cheering with the audience.  Seeing him praise her lit a new fire within the blonde point guard, and she stood.  Marching over to the coach, Usagi prepared to fight for her spot back on the starting line-up.  She would put Chizori in her place.

Coffee Shop! AU

Usagi sat at the coffee shop hoping someone would come sit with her. She saw her team mates (although they acted as if she were the plague ever since Chizori had replaced her on the team). Usagi saw the familiar faces of her friends Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako. She waved at them trying to get their attention. They acted as if they didn't see her. This was becoming too much for Usagi. She sat munching on her muffin, and sipping her tea. She was just about ready to get up and leave when she saw Chizori walk in...with Mamoru at her side, his arm around her shoulder. 

Something in Usagi snapped in that moment, she had been feeling betrayed by everyone for so long now, and she would have never thought her Mamo- chan would be another Chizori fan. He was smiling and she felt as if he had forgotten all about her.

She got up and walked over to where the group was and tapped Mamoru on the shoulder. When he turned and looked at her, she dumped the remainder of her tea on him (yes it was immature of her, but she was so angry right now).

She shouted at him, " So you're gonna forget about me too now Mamo-chan" The tears were forming in her eyes as she said " I guess the past few years mean nothing to you." She turned and ran out of the coffee shop...

Pirate! AU

Usagi was standing at the wheel of her ship the Moon Rabbit, all thoughts of cheating men and lying friends lost from her mind. For once she was at peace till she spotted Chizori's ship. A wicked smile spread across her face. She began shouting orders to her loyal crew that they would take that ship. A shout went up from the crew as they started preparing to take the ship. Oh Usagi hoped that the cheating lying Mamoru was on board or any of her old friends. She had such wonderful torments planned for that group.

They sailed up along side their cannons firing before the other ship knew what was really happening. Luck was on her side! Yes for once!! She smiled and shouted orders to her crew. "Come on ye scurvy dogs! There's treasure on that ship and revenge too! I shall have both before the night is over!" With that she drew her own sword and started into battle, brave and true.

With little lost to them, Usagi's crew took Chizori's ship but lost the girl herself, as she had escaped in the heat of battle and could be far off by now, but not all was lost! She had caught Mamoru and now he was held in her hold along with the treasure they had taken from the ship.

They had decided as a crew that the cheater would be keelhauled. So in accordance with their rules, he was dragged from the hold and stung up to endue the punishment decide for him. A evil wicked smile graced the face of Usagi, this would teach him to cheat on her. "Keelhaul him." She said softly, despite the protests from her one time lover, her smile only growing darker as he was plunged underwater.

Rockband AU!

Usagi walked to her dressing room to pick out her outfit for the night. She glanced in the mirror and didnt recognize herself, she was happy with a change though. Her friends and the man she thought loved her left her behind for that girl....Chizori. Usagi had dyed her hair black only leaving some blonde at the bottom. She had some bright purple and blue streaks added in as well. She also cut her hair to where it hit the bottom of her back rather than her feet. A weight had been lifted off her shoulders and she was ready to debut her new song with her band. She slipped into her black and capris and her black baby tee. She put on her knee high boots and did one quick turn around in her mirror to make sure everything looked just the way she wanted it.

She took the stage, there was a huge crowd who came to see her debut her song. She could finally put all her emotions she had feeling into something positive. When she heard the first chord of her song being played by the band, she knew she had made the right decision to write this song about everyone abandoning her. She began to sing her fast paced song the crowd cheering along and singing. If her friends didnt care about her anymore fine, if Mamoru didnt care about her anymore, fine, she had all these fans cheering her on and for the first time in a long time, Usagi was truly happy.

Halloween!AU

Usagi trailed behind her friends, dismayed and upset.  All night, she had been receiving compliments and smiles over her rockstar costume, but none of that was enough to lift her broken spirit.  

She glared at the back of one named Chizori, a girl who had stepped right in and pushed Usagi out of their group of friends.  They all walked in a group ahead of her, and, as usual, she was left behind.  They had been walking around Juuban for hours, only hitting the places they knew sold large candy bars.  Usagi's bag was getting heavier and heavier with every house, but the amount of sweets in her possession was the least of her concern.  All she wanted was to be with her friends, to celebrate this holiday with them and have fun like they always do.  But Chizori took that away from her - she ruined it.  Usagi was alone.

And she was scared.

Knowing deep down that she was probably making the dumbest decision of her life, Usagi stomped forward and grabbed Chizori's perfect hair, yanking it back so that they were facing each other.

"I know what you're doing, Chizori, and I'm tired of it.  These are my friends, and you are intruding on my life.  I'm sick of you taking everything away from me.  My friends, my crush, my happiness, my achievements - all of it!  I'm done!"

POP!

Game Show AU!

Usagi pushed Chizori out of the way as she ran closer to the next check point. She opened the box and read the directions. She had to pop all the balloons of one color, she chose the pink ones. She pictured Chizori's face on all of those balloons as she took out her rage from the past few days out. She had successfully popped all the balloons and she ran to the next station, glancing back and seeing Chizori on the ground, apparantly the girl had fallen, "wow shes and even bigger klutz than I am," Usagi thought, then she saw all of her "so called friends" run to Chizori's aid. Usagi turned back running to the next station, she was determined to win, the prize was an all expense paid trip for one week to Hawaii. Usagi thought it was just what she needed to get away from all these people who were sucking the life out of her.

Usagi was able to finish in first place and she was excited about her trip, and she wondered if once she got to Hawaii if she could start over with a new life,make new friends, find a new love, be herself again. She sat standing the life she once knew fade away and looked forward to new horizons. 

Usagi walked back over to Chizori and said to her in a bitter tone, "you want to take my life, my friends, and my guy be my guest, they are clearly more expendable than I thought, just be ready to find new friends when someone comes in trying to replace you like you replaced me."

Usagi walked off with her plane ticket in hand feeling rather happy.
