I've seen hints to this idea pop up in different theories and debates, so I figured I'd make a thread on it and see what other people think. So, do you, fellow moonies, classify Princess Serenity/Neo Queen Serenity/Sailor Moon/Usagi/etc. etc., all her incarnations, as a goddess? Why or why not?

She holds the Ginzuishou, the most powerful crystal/star seed in the universe, she expanded the life spans of those living in Crystal Tokyo, it's suggested she's been able to have people reborn (like Nehelenia), she helped Luna become human in the anime by wishing on her Ginzuishou, she is clearly the most powerful senshi, etc., just to name a few of her "goddess-like qualities".

No - gods and goddesses are supernatural beings, while Usagi is from this world.

I've never thought of her as specifically a goddess, but I don't think it is out of the realm of possibilities. With all of the tie ins with mythology throughout the series, I think that, if she is not a goddess, then she certainly has goddess-like qualities that ties back in with all of the mythology that Sailor Moon is filled with.

Although I think she has enough going for her that adding "goddess" to her titles and powers isn't even necessary xD

I would say she is more of a Demi-Goddess. Lunarian people could be decedents of a God/Goddess and that could explain their super long lives. Serenity could be from a more direct line, which is what connects her more to the Gods & Goddesses and gives her many of her powers.
This is of course for Serenity - not Usagi. For Usagi I'm not sure - I want to say that Usagi herself is just human, but she has the soul & powers of serenity embedded in her which is what gives her powers. When she becomes Sailor Moon, she is still herself but draws on the powers in Serenity's soul. Alternately, when she becomes Serenity or Neo Queen Serenity, it isn't Usagi that is in control but rather Serenities Soul using Usagi's body. If that makes sense?
So no, not a Goddess - but in some of her states (Serenity/NQSerenity) I could see her as a type of Demi-Goddess.

I agree with whitehexe. Her mother, Serenity seemed very godlike and she even came from a far away place, she has a very tall form as we see when is talking to Pluto but she apparently can control her height because she appears not much taller then her daughter at other times and we know she's quite short XD

Cosmos I would say would be Goddess like as well but until Usagi becomes goddess like she is just a magical girl with special powers and Lunarian heritage^^

Edit- I just had an awesome thought. I got the saying "By the stars" and "Oh my stars" from Sailor Moon. I don't know if that was ever mentioned, but perhaps the senshi are considered gods. Their star seeds, senshi crystals are the equivalent of gods to their home worlds because they have special unique stars that grant them the power of being a senshi^^

Well if I remember correctly, Queen Serenity says (in the manga) that she is the incarnation of the goddess "Selene". Now, I think its been translated slightly differently. I remember one way sort of hints that she is considered, by the people of earth, to be a Goddess, while she is not really one.

However, I believe in the way that Usagi's powers grow, she has the ability to become either a demi-goddess or full goddess. This is something that I've seen happen in hero stories. For example, the Dune series (for those that are familiar with it), the main character of the first book basically becomes a God and knows and sees all, past and future. The same thing pretty much happens to his son. Another example would be the Dragonball series, but the end of GT, Goku becomes one of the Dragons and basically becomes a God. Plus, from my understanding of the ending (i haven't seen it so someone correct me if i'm wrong) of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, something similar happens. So, in series like Sailor Moon, it isn't impossible for the main hero/heroine to become so powerful they become a higher being.

I wonder if Cosmos would be like the Equivalent of the Goku Dragon(I love that series^^)

No, I don't view Serenity as a godess, only as an alien queen with a powerful Sailor Crystal.

I don't think I would personally classify Serenity as a goddess, but imagine what the people of Crystal Tokyo think when she ascends to power. o.0 I bet there are totally some worshipers.
